Ratan Tata Reveals The Reason Why Nano Failed!

Ratan Tata has finally revealed the reason behind sluggish sales volume of Nano: It is none other than the term which is synonymous with Nano – “The cheapest car”.
Buying a car in India is associated with social status and prestige; if a person owns a car, he is assumed to be successful and settled. It differs hugely from the Western market, where cars are more of a necessity rather than luxury. If a person buys a car in US, no one gives a damn unless it’s a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Indian market is different, and a different marketing strategy was required for selling Nano, which is arguably world’s cheapest car. But the word ‘cheap’ in its marketing campaigns spoiled everything. It had to be subtle yet hidden from the promotional messages.
Something terribly went wrong here.
He said during an interview with CNBC,

“It (Nano) became termed as a cheapest car by the public and, I am sorry to say, by ourselves, not by me, but the company when it was marketing it. I think that is unfortunate.”

How to Change the Date of your Digital Photographs

John Q. Public has just finished importing the videos and pictures from the digital camera to his laptop but realizes that the media files are incorrectly time-stamped.
Maybe the date and time settings of his “point and shoot” camera were set incorrectly or maybe the digital camera was stamping the files with local time though the pictures were being shot in another country with a different time zone. He probably forgot to change the time stamp of the camera before going on vacation.
How does John change the data and time of his pictures?
Most image editing software, Picasa and iPhoto included, allow you corect the data and time of photographs imported from a digital camera or a smartphone. You can import your digital photos in the software and select the ones that need to be fixed.
In the case of Picasa, choose Tools -> Adjust Date & Time and select a new date for your photos. This will change the “Date Picture Taken” field in the EXIF data of you picturs. Similarly, iPhoto users …

Once the proposed system goes live, anyone in an emergency situation will be able to access an ambulance, a fire fighter or a policeman by dialing a single number likely to be short and easy to remember. The sys…

New Companies Act 2013: Should Indian Corporates Disclose Their Political Donations?

The business of politics and the politics of business: both are dangerous combinations which can potentially destroy the economy of a country, and plunge in to darkness. Law enforcing agencies should ensure that both business and politics remain separated so that both can function without any corruption.
But sadly, this seems like a fiction story in India right now.
It has been confirmed that Indian corporate sector does not want to reveal its political donations. As the rules and regulations of new Companies Act 2013 are being formed right now, CII or Confederation of Indian Industry has written to Ministry of Corporate Affairs to amend a particular clause which will help them to keep this information as secret.
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is a very powerful lobby of Indian corporate sector, with 7000 direct members and more than 90,000 indirect members from all over India. And when CII makes a request to the government, it is bound to get noticed. Chandrajit Bannerjee, direc…

Tablets Rule Books and Travel, Smartphones Take the Rest

I’m unnaturally attached to my iPad. It’s a tough thing to put into writing but it’s true. I came to the realization this past weekend. I went to Los Angeles (a 2-hour drive) to attend the Supernatural convention with a friend. I stayed over one night at the hotel – and when I say night, I mean I got to my room at 10 pm and left before 10 am. So, I had about 3 hours of awake time. I knew this going in but I still brought my iPad. I didn’t want to because I wasn’t comfortable leaving it in the room all day while I was enjoying the con, but I actually felt anxious at the thought of leaving it at home.
What if I needed it to get to sleep. (I have all kinds of tranquil apps for that.) What if I needed to check my email? What if I was bored for those three hours! What would I do without my iPad! What I didn’t think about was the lack of WiFi in the hotel ($12 for 24 hours which I wasn’t about to pay.) No Netflix. No YouTube. No email. No web surfing. I ended up playing two rounds of Bejewel…

GoldieBlox Offers To Withdraw Lawsuit Over “Girls” Video In A Fan Letter To The Beastie Boys

The GoldieBlox legal battle against the Beastie Boys over the band’s song “Girls” may be nearing an end. Today, the toy company responded to the Beastie Boys open letter published in the New York Times on Monday about the toy company using a parody of the band’s song “Girls” in a GoldieBlox video ad.
In a post titled “Our Letter to the Beastie Boys” posted on the GoldieBlox blog, the toy company says it has removed its parody of the song from the GoldieBlox video, and is willing to stop the lawsuit as long as the Beastie Boys halt any legal threats.
The conflict started after a video ad by GoldieBlox using a reworked version of the Beastie Boys’ song “Girls” went viral with more than 8.6 million views since it was posted on November 17. GoldieBlox had never received approval from the Beasties Boys to use the song, and last week, a Beastie Boys representative reached out to the toy company in a private letter asking why the song had been used without the band’s permission.
