Google+ Hits 300 Million Active Monthly “In-Stream” Users, 540 Million Across Google

As expected, Google touted the growth of its “social layer” Google+ during a special event today that also saw the introduction of 18 new features.
The big numbers that Google talked about are as follows:
540 million monthly active Google+ users: This is the number of people with Google accounts that interact with Google+ each month in some way on any Google property. That could include leaving a comment on a blog or website that has Google+ comments embedded, commenting on YouTube, or clicking the +1 button on an article or some other web content.
Here’s the chart Google used showing the growth in this metric:

300 million monthly active “in-stream” users: This is the number of people that see/visit the Google+ content stream. It’s also considered by many to be the closest thing to the “monthly active users” that other sites (like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) report, although I think it’s an apples-to-oranges comparison in many ways.

Samsung Scores Big With NBA Deal

Personally I am not an NBA fan but that doesn’t matter as a marketer. There is no denying that the NBA has a pretty broad appeal these days with stars like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant on the court and character like Charles Barkley off the court.
That said, Samsung is investing $100 million is a deal to sponsor the league this year. That’s a lot of iPhone users seeing Samsung phones, tablets and TVs as well as other Android users seeing the full scope of Samsung’s product offering.
cnet reports

The NBA and Samsung’s deal is valued at $100 million over three years, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the agreement. Under the terms of the deal, Samsung will provide to the NBA both televisions and tablets for use courtside when the NBA starts its new season on Tuesday. The televisions will act as the monitors referees use to review close calls, according to the Journal.

So which is it? Apple or Samsung? iOS or Android? If you are a market…

The New Economy – 5 Ways to Keep Your Employees Motivated Without Money

The definition of job has changed over the years. Way before, when there used to be Industrial Economy, an employee was as good as a machine part: easily replaceable and obedient. Employees used to do what they were told to, with zero accountability and virtually no ownership.
But the new Digital Economy, also called Connected Economy has changed everything. The very notion of being an employee has changed – Now, you are no longer hiring a machine unit which can be easily replaced but a skilled person who is an asset for your organization. It is the ideas and the initiatives which matter, not obedience and compliance.
Digital Economy workforce cannot be ‘instructed’ to do a particular task; he is not a machine anymore. He uses his knowledge, skills and experience to provide the optimal solution for your organization, and there are no rules to be followed.
Before, it was possible to motivate your workforce by offering them more money; after all who can resist the power of money, right?

Google To Triple Size Of Glass Explorer Program, Give Away Upgraded Version Of Glass

If you want to have your own Google Glass and know someone that already has it, now’s a good time to be extra friendly.
Google has announced plans to triple the Glass Explorer program by letting current Explorers invite up to three friends each to get their own Glass. The new Explorers will still have to pay the full Explorer price, which is $1,500 plus tax.
In addition, we’ve been experimenting with ways to expand the Explorer Program and it’s been going really well. So over the next few weeks, all Explorers will have the opportunity to invite three friends to join the program. They’ll be able to buy Glass online and can have it shipped to their home, office, treehouse or igloo. We’re counting on you to get Glass to the people you think will make great Explorers. More Explorers means more feedback, and more feedback means better Glass.
Meanwhile, current Explorers will also soon get an invite of their own — a chance to trade in their existing, original version of Glass for a newer, upgr…

Google Announces “A Morning With Google+” Event Tomorrow

Google has announced plans for a live event tomorrow that’ll be about Google+ and — of course — streamed lived on Google+.
But if you’re looking for details, good luck. The announcement only says, “The Google+ team will be sharing a few updates” and links to this page where the live stream will happen.

It’s set to begin at 9:30 am PT.
It’s been a while since Google has shared Google+ usage numbers, so that’s one possibility — perhaps along with new features? Keep in mind, too, that Facebook will be sharing its latest usage numbers on Wednesday when its latest quarterly earnings are announced.
Guess we’ll all find out tomorrow.
