Wipro Launches Free Online Course FINPro: Corporate Readiness Program For Undergrads

The most pressing requirement of our contemporary education system is practical implementation of theoretical knowledge. Our teachers are teaching what is covered by the curriculum, which is often out-dated and out of sync with what the industry requires. For example, when I was doing my Masters in Information Science, the curriculum required that I learn MS DOS and COBOL programming language for one full semester, even if no one uses that anymore! Yes, basic knowledge was of course required, but a whole semester on these extinct programming languages?
Wipro has certainly realized this gap in our education as they have just announced a new Employability Enrichment Program for Commerce and Accounting students called FINPro which stands for Finance and Accounting Skills Enhancement Program. This program has been devised in e-learning format and targeted for students of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in cities of Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad…

World Will Have 26 Billion Internet Connected Devices By 2020 [Report]

A new study by Gartner has revealed amazing insights into the future of Internet of Things landscape: by 2020, around 26 billion units would be interconnected with one another, collectively generating business value of around $1.9 trillion.
The study says that around the same time in 2020, the number of smartphones, tablets and PCs in use will reach only 7.3 billion units, which is almost one-third of all connected devices. This means that the next computing revolution is not happening in the usual PC/smartphone/tablet market but in other sectors such as health, insurance, household appliances and automobiles niche.
This marks a 30-fold increase in number of devices connected globally; in the year 2009, there were only 900 million devices connected on the Internet of Things platform. In terms of services, Internet of Things can collectively generate business worth $300 billion by 2022, which is simply staggering value.
As of now, the verticals which are leading the Internet of Things wav…

Here’s our daily recap of what happened in online marketing today, as reported on Marketing Land and other places across the web.
From Marketing Land:

What Email Marketers Are Saying About Gmail’s Image Serving Change

Google caused quite a stir Thursday with the news that it’s serving images in Gmail from its own servers, rather than from the sender’s servers. As we reported yesterday, Gmail open rates should become more accurate because images are displayed by default. But other data will go away — the user’s location and user agent, […]

Live From Your Computer! It’s YouTube Events!

YouTube has angered a lot of people lately with their forced Google+ comment update and their overly-aggressive copyright sweep. Today, they took a step toward getting back in the good graces by launching live events for (almost) every account.
Right now you’re probably saying to yourself. . . wait. . I thought YouTube already had live events. And you’d be correct-ish.
In the past, YouTube allowed favored channel owners to run live events. Many of these were tied to big concerts, video game releases and sports. You could also host a live event on Google Hangouts which would automatically show up on YouTube.
Now, it’s easier:

Now, all YouTube channels that verify their account and are in good standing will be able to live stream live video to the world. We’re rolling out the feature over the next few weeks, and you can see if you have access on the YouTube account feature page or wait for Live Events to appear in your Video Manager.

I clicked through to the Live Events page and found a huge…

The initial reaction was largely negative, but now that Google has clarified (a bit of) what is happening, some of the main players in the email marketing industry are taking a more measured view of the image caching change.
Here’s a look at some of the reaction we’ve seen since the image caching change was first noticed last week.
Responsys
In a blog post, Responsys’ Kevin Senne writes that the impact on marketers will depend on how long Google chooses to cache the images:
Multiple opens of an email could record lower, but this depends on how long Google decides to cache the image. If the image is cached, the request will stay internally to Google instead of g…

The infographic is from the folks at Marketo, who provide an email marketing solution. The data is drawn from their research as well as stats from other sites, including Marketing Land. It covers the need to focus on strategy over creative, that subject line remains crucial but message content, layout and call-to action are also important, that time of day to send should be considered and not to overlook mobile layout.
Here’s the infographic (click to enlarge it):
