Today Only: Watch This Powerful Guinness Ad Today Or Miss Out

In case you missed last week’s touching Olympic moment, after qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team, biathlete Tracy Barnes gave up her spot to her twin sister, Lanny. Lanny had been sick during the qualifiers and unable to compete for a spot on the team.
Guinness has released a one-day ad featuring the sisters’ story. As Ad Age reported, the ad will likely be pulled after today due to U.S. Olympic Committee rules that prohibit Olympic athletes from appearing in advertisements by non-official sponsors. The blackout dates start tomorrow, January 30, and run through February 26.

The ad was produced by BBDO, New York. The ad, according to Ad Age, will be featured on TV, YouTube and print ads. So far, the ad is not being promoted on brand’s Facebook page. In paid search, the brand is running ads for the spot on queries such as “Barnes sisters”.

Bharti Airtel Q3FY14 Results: Net Profit Increases 115% At Rs 610 Crore

Bharati Airtel has just released its financial reports for the quarter ending December, 2013, and the results are pretty much exciting. Compared to last year, their net profit has increased 115% at Rs 610 crore. After 15 consecutive quarters of decline, this is for the first time that Bharti has actually posted growth in profit. (Airtel website is still uploading the results on their website at the time of writing)
Net income of Bharti for the same quarter last year stood at Rs 284 crore.

Bharti Airtel, which is India’s largest telecom company by subscriber base, had revenues of Rs 21,939 crore in the period between October-December 2013, which is 13.3% more than last year when it had generated revenues worth Rs 19,362 crore. Revenues from Indian subscribers increased 10.3%, while International subscribers accounted for 18.5% increase in revenues. Share market has responded positively to Airtel’s Q3 results, as their shares gained 2.9% after this announcement.

Supreme Court Launches New Android App To Give Up To Date Case Information

The Supreme Court of India has realized the importance of keeping updated with the times and has released an Android app for users to access information about the operations of the court.
The app was developed by Center for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Mumbai. The app apk can be downloaded from here.
The earlier version of this app only had the respective item number of cases which is heard across various courts. The previous version of the app was a replica of the display board present in the Supreme Court.
The new app gives information on the court’s display board, cause lists, office reports case status, daily orders and judgments. There is nothing much to write about the UI of the app as it is plain vanilla simple and does the task at hand.

Google Glass Going Mainstream Late This Year With 4 New Frames

Google Glass will begin selling to the general public late this year, and it’ll do so with four new frames and two new sunglass shades that make the device look a lot more mainstream.
Google announced the “Titanium Collection” overnight — a set of traditional frames that are ready for prescription lenses, or can be bought by Explorers that “just want a new look.”
Just like other Glass accessories, the new frames are spendy: $225 each for the frames and $150 for the sunglass shades. They’re all available for purchase now in the Explorers-only Glass accessory store.
In announcing the new frames and shades, Google also updated the official Glass FAQ to reveal that the device will begin selling to the public before the end of the year:

A. Starting last fall, we’ve been slowly expanding the Explorer program and we’ll continue to do that until our consumer launch towards the end of 2014.

The Hits Keep Coming – More Brands Release Super Bowl Ads Before Game Night

Instead of posting Super Bowl teaser ads like Jaguar and Nestle, many brands are choosing to post their full Super Bowl ads well ahead of the game next Monday night.
Axe and GoDaddy both posted their Super Bowl ads last week, and yesterday Ad Age reported Audi, Hyundai, Oikos and Squarespace have posted their Super Bowl ads online as well.
While Ad Age touted a brands ability to “create viral buzz and garner free media exposure” by posting the high dollar spots pre-game, it’s debatable whether an brand’s Super Bowl ad loses its overall effectiveness once any element of surprise has been removed prior to game night.
According to a National Retail Federation survey, 25 percent of respondents claimed to watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, and 81 percent of respondents said they viewed the ads as entertainment. Such data begs the question, how entertaining is a 60-second spot after you’ve already watched it online?

Japan’s Terra Motors Enters India With 1000CC Kiwami Electric Super Bike!

If you are a bike enthusiast, this news is going to be music to your ears – Terra Motors Corporation, the No.1 manufacture of electric two and three wheelers in Japan, has today announced their presence in India by introducing Kiwami – India’s first ever 1000cc electric superbike in India.

Smartphone Shipments Cross 1 Billion Milestone In 2013!

According to IDC’s Worldwide Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors have shipped a total of 1004.3 million smartphones worldwide in 2013, a growth of 38.4 percent from the 725.3 million units in 2012.
The percentage of smartphones among all mobile units shipped in 2013 also grew at healthy pace. In 2012, smartphones accounted for 41.7% of all mobile shipments which increased to 55.10% in 2013.

According to IDC analysts, the growth was driven not by high end smartphones, but by sub-$150 priced ones which sold heavily in countries like China and India.
In 2011, total smartphone units shipped stood at 494.4 million, which means that their numbers have doubled in short span of 2 years.

In the fourth quarter of 2013, mobile vendors shipped a total of 284.4 million smartphones worldwide, up 24.2% from the 229.0 million units shipped in 4Q12.
The growth in Smartphone stands out even more due to the fact that, overall mobile shipments (Smart & Feature phones included) grew only 4.8% up from 1738.1 mln …
