Video Content Investment Pouring In | Relative Media Efficacy | About.com Plots Comeback

Video: Serious video content production is now a thing, with a half dozen or so serious firms spending millions of dollars generating original content in hopes of pulling "an HBO" and generating better-than-broadcast quality content and viral buzz. UK Survey: Facebook Is Most Marketing Friendly Social Media Platform

Facebook is the marketer’s best friend, at least in the United Kingdom.
According to a survey of 171 UK social marketers, Facebook is the favored platform for social media campaign development and evaluation. The survey was conducted by the Social Media Council of the London-based Direct Marketing Assn. in September and the results were released this week.
Survey participants were asked to rate each social network from 1 to 10 in campaign planning, execution and post-campaign analysis. Facebook ranked highest in each, with a 4.8 score for planning, a 4.5 (tied with Twitter) for execution, and 3.9 for analysis. Notably, in the planning portion of the survey, LinkedIn ranked highest with a 5.2 for tools to target individual users.
Because the survey was carried out last September, the participants hadn’t yet been exposed to the current angst about plunging organic reach for Facebook Page posts.
I also think that the fact that the scores were low overall — leaders barely pushed into the aver…

On An International And Mobile Push, LinkedIn Passes 300 Million Users

LinkedIn announced today that it has more than 300 million users, 100 million in the United States.
“While this is an exciting moment, we still have a long way to go to realize our vision of creating economic opportunity for every one of the 3.3 billion people in the global workforce,” Deep Nishar, LinkedIn senior vice president for products and user experience, wrote in a blog post.
LinkedIn has been making a push for more international users this year, most notably by launching a beta site in Simplified Chinese in February. The results from the effort to woo China’s 140 million professionals remain to be seen — LinkedIn provided no update — but the company believes that the key to its international growth plan will be a mobile focus.
Already more than 50% of LinkedIn’s global traffic comes from mobile devices. That’s 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications viewed via mobile. Mobile use has surpassed desktop in Costa Rica, Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden…

4 Tips To Survive Your Email Subscriber’s Digital Spring Cleaning

Spring is here — that time of year when everyone starts cleaning out all the “stuff” they’ve accumulated. But while the spring cleaning ritual will undoubtedly include some heavy dusting, house-wide reorganization and purging of clutter, it’s no longer limited to people’s physical lives.
With today’s digital lifestyle, that clutter invariably lives on PCs, tablets and mobile phones, so expect consumers to “spring clean” their devices, too.

Why should this matter to us as marketers? Because if we’re not careful, our communications will get tossed out with the junk. Now is the time to do a little spring cleaning of our own and ensure that our communications are simple, deliberate and relevant.
If we’re not reaching customers with personalized communications over relevant channels and during appropriate times, we might as well assume our messages are going straight into a digital trash bin.
Here are four tips to help clean up your digital marketing campaigns in time for spring:

Mobile Price Pressure Leading to Peak Google | Nielsen Attempts to Pull Online Video into Common Ratings Scale | China-Approved Microblogger Site Has Market Debut, Rises 19%

Search: Mobile ads are growing in relative share; they don't perform as well for advertisers on average; advertisers pay less for them; so Google's prices are under significant pressure. Google's earnings grew anemically in the quarter announced yesterday evening in good part because of this chain of logic. They are unlikely to grow quickly until [...]

Heineken Turns Living Room Into Gigantic Pinball Machine

In a super cool activation, Publicis Italia created an awesome piece of experiential marketing for the introduction of Heineken’s “The Sub,” a futuristic-looking, advanced technology method of dispensing beer. Effectively, it’s a really cool keg.
It was designed by Marc Newson and the agency decided to tout Newson’s masterful achievement in Milan during Design Week by inviting people to a seriously tricked out “living room” called, appropriately, The Sub Living Room.
While people were invited to appreciate the masterful design, that’s not all they were in for. When the lever of a particular Sub was pulled, the entire living room turned into a gigantic pinball machine.
Of course, epicness ensued with everyone being given a chance to play what is likely the biggest pinball machine ever created. All to sell beer.
Hey, at least it’s better than a stupid Super Bowl commercial, right?
