Facebook: App Links Allow Deep Links Between Mobile Apps

Today at F8, Facebook’s developer event, the company announced an initiative called App Links. It’s a free and open-source solution for developers to enable deep linking between apps, which will mimic linking on the PC web.
It’s also cross-platform between mobile and web content, as well as between mobile operating systems.

Implementation is simple and uses basic tags/HTML code:
Publishing App Link metadata is as simple as adding a few lines to the <head> tag in the HTML for your content. Apps that link to your content can then use this metadata to deep-link into your app, take users to an app store to download the app, or take them directly to the web to view the content. This allows developers to provide the best possible experience for their users when linking to their content.
App Links are specified using the tags defined in the registry below. Each target platform requires a different set of metadata in order to provide enough context for one app to deep-link into another.

Facebook Will Give You The Ability To Login To Apps Anonymously

Recognizing that many people are wary about sharing their online identities, Facebook announced an anonymous login feature for mobile apps today at the F8 conference in San Francisco.
“We know that some people are scared about pressing this blue button,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, pointing to an image of the normal Facebook sign-on, during his keynote address.
The new feature, which is being testing with a limited number of developers with plans to roll it out further in the next few months, will allow users to sign into apps they want to try out or use without sharing their full Facebook data.
Anonymous Login lets people log in to apps so they don’t have to remember usernames and passwords, but it doesn’t share personal information from Facebook. People can decide later if they want to share any additional information, once they understand more about the app.
Here’s how it looks:

Facebook also announced that is enhancing the login screen to give users more choices about the inform…

Google Flatly Denies Anonymous Claims It Defrauded AdSense Publishers

Earlier this week, an anonymous post on Pastebin from someone claiming to be a former Google employee purported the company committed fraud against AdSense publishers between 2009 and 2012. The scheme, in part, allegedly involved shutting down the accounts of high-earning AdSense publishers just prior to their payout periods in order to make up for “serious losses in the financial department” at Google.
Google flatly denies the post as “complete fiction” in a statement issued to the press:

“This description of our AdSense policy enforcement process is a complete fiction. The color-coding and “extreme quality control” programs the author describes don’t exist. Our teams and automated systems work around the clock to stop bad actors and protect our publishers, advertisers and users.
All publishers that sign up for AdSense agree to the Terms and Conditions of the service and a set of policies designed to ensure the quality of the network for users, advertisers and other publishers. When we …

What You Can Do With Gists on Github?

Github is the popular website among software developers for sharing code. The site hosts over 12 million open-source projects — including games, books and even fonts — making Github the largest code repository on the Internet.
Github offers another useful service called Gist that developers often use to dump their code snippets but Gists aren’t just for geeks and coders — they offer something for everybody. If you have ever heard of web apps like Pastebin or Pastie, Gist are similar but more polished, they are free of advertising and loaded with more features.
Gist – They aren’t just for Geeks!
Here are some areas where you can utilize the Gist service. And you don’t have to be a geek for this.
1. Write Text Anonymously
You don’t have to create an account at Github to use Gists. Just go to, write any block of text in the space provided and create a Gist. You can choose to have a secret Gist that will not be visible to search engines but only to those who know the URL of tha…

Glam Media Becomes Mode Media, Pushes Into Video With New Shows, Distribution Platform At NewFront

Glam Media became Mode Media on Tuesday as it unveiled a plan to branch out beyond its fashion and beauty beginnings. The company now has content channels aimed at appealing to both men and women.
Mode already claims to reach more men ages 18-34 than ESPN and cited comScore data showing it has a reach of over 250 million monthly visitors worldwide across its web properties.
That technically makes it the seventh biggest online media company. Glam, now Mode, says it’s the only pure content play, though, and that after taking out non-content parts of other media companies — search, for example — Mode rises to the number two spot.
Mode showed off 10 new original shows that will air across several of its channels including more female fare such as “Supermarket Adventures” and “Mi Casa Su Casa” as well as two new shows targeted at men. “Who’s The Real Alpha?” pits famous males against each other in a battle of testosterone — think Leonardo Di Vvinci pitted against George Bush, Napoleon vs. Tom…

Augmented Reality App Shares History Of Jose Cuervo

Out of McCann New York and LAIKA comes a different sort of campaign for Jose Cuervo. Entitled History in a Bottle, the campaign centers on the message-in-a-bottle theme and adds an element of augmented reality.
Designed to reflect the brand’s 219-year history, the work highlights a volcanic eruption that enriched the soil for the brand’s agave plants, Cuervo’s work in relieving America from an era of Prohibition, the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the brand’s invention of the margarita and, yes, bikini volleyball.
Along with TV and a YouTube home page takeover, the campaign offers people an interactive “historeality” of the Jose Cuervo brand through a downloadable augmented reality app.
App users will be able to hover over a bottle of Tradicional and activate the experience. The bottle’s body will first turn into the bar where Cuervo played a role in inventing the Margarita. Users can then learn about the historical relevance of the scene, share via social media, take a screen grab or vis…
