Google+ Breaks Into The Top 15 Mobile Apps — comScore

Yesterday afternoon comScore released its US smartphone and mobile app rankings for March. Interestingly the company appears to have discontinued its ranking for mobile websites and is now only reporting on the top apps.
In terms of smartphone marketshare, the story remains largely unchanged over the past six months, except that Samsung continues to incrementally gain share among Android OEMs. The firm gained almost a point since December.

On the operating system front, Apple lost some share in the last quarter while both Android and Microsoft gained share. In October 2013 Android had 52.2 percent of the market so this is not a new high. We seem to have reached a kind of equilibrium where a couple of points are traded back and forth between Android and iOS each quarter.
In terms of actual internet traffic generated, the numbers are flipped. StatCounter reports that the iPhone is responsible for 52.5 percent of US mobile web traffic while Android drives 41.4 percent.

The question is: can M…

HootSuite Rolls Out A New Social Visualization Tool For Enterprise Customers

HootSuite Enterprise has launched a visual social media analytics feature, uberVU Boards, that aims to provide metric reporting tools simple enough for non-analysts to use.
A product of HootSuite’s January acquisition of London-based uberVU, Boards allow users to create customized dashboards, pinning metrics that need to be tracked daily — mention streams or spike signals, for instance. Boards update in real-time and can be quickly turned into reports.
“Unlike traditional data visualization technologies, Boards has been designed so that any user can easily identify a metric, pin it to a dashboard and generate a report with just one click,” HootSuite said in a release.

Other uses suggested by HootSuite:

Gauge your brand’s health in real time by creating a Board with sentiment metrics, conversation maps and signals widgets. Monitor closely so you can quickly amplify a positive brand story or get ahead of a potential crisis.
Launching a new campaign? Track ongoing success with a customized Bo…

Marketers Should Jump Into Instagram Before It’s Too Late

It’s hard to believe that a social network with 200 million active users could be overlooked by marketers. But that seems to be the case with Instagram.
Compelling data released this week by Nate Elliott of Forrester Research shows that brand posts on Instagram receive remarkably higher engagement than posts on Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms.
Studying three million user interactions on 2,500 posts from top brands during the first quarter, Forrester found that Instagram’s per follower engagement rate was 4.21%. None of the rest — Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter or YouTube — did better than 0.1%. Instagram’s results beat Facebook by 58 times and Twitter by 120 times.

So why is Instagram doing so well at brand audience engagement?
Forrester concluded that it’s largely because there’s less marketing competition on the network. Fewer marketers use Instagram — 58% of Forrester sample have an IG presence, compared to 94% on Twitter, and 82% on Facebook — and tho…
