YouTube VP Of Content Tom Pickett Leaves Company

The Wall Street Journal reported last Friday that YouTube’s Vice President Tom Pickett had left the company.
“Tom has played an important role over the last seven years growing YouTube’s operations and content partnerships organizations,” YouTube said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal, “The strong team he has helped build will continue to focus on making our partners as successful as possible.”
As Vice President of YouTube Content, Pickett’s responsibilities included user policy and operations, overseeing YouTube’s Next Lab and YouTube Spaces, as well as managing business development and strategic partnerships for Entertainment and Music.
The Wall Street Journal report did not include details on where Pickett was going, only claiming he told YouTube employees he was taking a chief executive role at another company. According to the Wall Street Journal, more than a dozen top managers and executives have left YouTube this year.

Infographic: Requiem For Orkut As Google Pulls The Plug

Tomorrow Google will shut down Orkut, its first attempt at a social network. Launched in January 2004 — a month before Facebook — and named after its creator, Google engineer Orkut Büyükkökten, Orkut was very popular in India and Brazil; especially, Brazil where it was the dominant social network until Facebook finally surpassed it in January 2012.
Google, of course, switched its attention to Google+ in 2011, leaving Orkut to largely fend for itself, and in June decided to pull the plug on Sept. 30. (Orkut users will be able to download their data and content until September 2016.)
As Orkut slips into the final resting place for defunct social networks, here’s a highlight reel infographic to remember it by, created by the folks at Dublin-based video production and marketing company One Productions:

Vine’s Android App Catches Up To IOS With Advanced Video Editing Features

Vine has updated its Android app with several new video editing features, including the ability for users to import previously recorded clips.
The update, which hit the Google Play store Friday, brings Android users up to speed with users with iOS devices. The iOS app was updated in August.
The new features include:

the ability to upload and preview clips of any length from the camera roll and cut them down to the six-second Vine maximum.
the ability to load multiple videos and edit them down into a single Vine.
Flashlight mode that turns on the camera’s flash.
a preview and undo function that allows users to view and delete clips without discarding the full Vine.
