So you want to tap influencers to accelerate a social marketing campaign, but don’t know where to turn?Demographics Pro believes it has a solution, today launching Influence Search, a dashboard that identifies the most influential people, media and brands for specific topic niches. The new product aims to give marketers a way to hone in on the people on Twitter, Instagram and YouTube who will most effectively connect with the audience they are trying to reach.“Marketers recognize that lesser known long-tail influencers often drive more effective campaigns than famous content creators with millions of fans,” Demographics Pro CEO Paul Hallett said in a release. “We identify the optimal influencers to engage a specific target audience: for example, the bloggers, video creators, musicians etc. who best influence 20 year old single men in San Francisco will unlikely be strong influencers for an audience of 40 year old married mothers in Kansas.”The product has a monthly price range of $300…

How Intent Data Leads To Better, More Personalized Marketing

Few people admit to loving online ads, but one thing is clear: Some ads are much more well-liked than others. Consumers prefer ads that are relevant to their interests, and such ads, of course, are much more likely to be effective and drive sales. When marketers make a personal appeal to consumers — for example, serving ads for barbecue grills and accessories to consumers who have read an article titled “10 Ways to Spice Up the Backyard This Spring” — it’s not merely an ad but also a useful service. The Different Types Of Intent SignalsThe goal for marketers, then, is figuring out the consumer’s intent — what the consumer wants or plans to do at that moment or in the future. The more marketers understand consumer intent, the more personalized and effective their ads will be.In search marketing, the consumer’s intent is revealed by the terms entered into a search engine. What you search for is a great reflection of what you’re interested in buying, a simple fact that explains the monument…

Report: Google Wireless Phone Service Could Launch As Early As Today

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Google will potentially reveal it’s anticipated wireless service as early as today. Announced earlier this year, the service will run on top of the Sprit and T-Mobile networks and only be compatible with the Nexus 6 handset. The rationale behind the service, according to Google SVP Sundar Pichai’s previous remarks “is to drive a set of innovations which we think the system should adopt.” When first announced, I likened it to a kind of “reference design” for wireless plans of the future — the Google Nexus of wireless programs. The first “innovation” being reported is a usage-based data pricing that could save consumers money and force carriers to compete on that basis. The phone will also dynamically shift between the Sprint and T-Mobile networks to utilize the best signal available. It will equally rely on WiFi for data and calls in certain situations. Many telecom and financial analysts have compared the new service with Google Fiber, wh…

April 23, Asus vs Xiaomi: Phone-y War Beckons

As Asus and Xiaomi get ready to renew their rivalry in Delhi, we take a look back and ahead to what has happened in the past. And what could happen in the hours to come.It is not often that you get two rival companies launching phones on the same day. Which is why April 23 is going to be special. The day will get underway with Asus officially launching the ZenFone 2 at noon. Three hours later, it will be the turn of Xiaomi to occupy centrestage, as it launches a new device (some speculate it is going to be the Mi 4i, a slightly more affordable avatar of the Mi 4 flagship). Both devices are likely to be slugging it out in the “value for money” smartphone stakes even though our sources seem to indicate that the Mi 4i (if it is called that) will be priced below the ZenFone 2.In many ways, it is the resumption of a battle that actually got underway last year in July. It was in July 2014 that Asus launched the ZenFone 5, a few days before Xiaomi officially set foot in India with the Mi 3. M…

Device Guard for Windows 10 will Lock Down the Desktop by Allowing Only Trusted Apps

The final form of Windows 10 is said to be coming to users this summer, and there’s a lot of expectation surrounding the product. Windows 8 failed to get traction, and the Windows 8.1 update also didn’t help, so now Microsoft is betting on a fresh approach with Windows 10 that would unite desktop and mobile users under a single banner. And as we’re nearing closer to the release date, Microsoft is busy behind the curtains tidying up and announcing new features that we’re going to see in the final version of Windows 10. One of these features is Device Guard, a new option which is aimed at enterprise customers who are looking to increase the security in their organizations.Speaking at the RSA Conference in San Francisco, Microsoft announced Device Guard as a new Windows 10 security feature meant for enterprises who want to lock down their desktops. Facebook’s Latest Tweaks Favor Friends, Could Hurt Page Reach

Facebook says it’s giving people what they want — and that could result in Pages getting less of what they crave: reach and referral traffic.Facebook announced three updates to its News Feed algorithm today and warned that the changes could cause reduced distribution for some Pages. Facebook said referral traffic to media publishers has doubled in the past 18 months, but there’s no denying that overall organic reach for business Pages has plunged. How significant and widespread the potential drop caused by today’s updates wasn’t stated. Your mileage may vary, product manager Max Eulenstein and user experience researcher Lauren Scissors wrote in a blog post:The impact of these changes on your page’s distribution will vary considerably depending on the composition of your audience and your posting activity. Internet Provider Puts Gaming Exec On Trial For Killing Fictional Character In #LifeOnTrial Legal Spoof

International telecommunications carrier and internet provider TeliaSonera has launched a long form online video which aims to illustrate the importance of a solid internet backbone and reliable connectivity. The 5:30 film, Life on Trial, tells the (fictitious) story of Reginald Winters, founder of online gaming company Mendora Group, and how he allowed a “brutal and untimely death to occur.” You see, because Winters used a less than optimal internet service provider for his Jewel of Mendora game, one of the game’s characters, Poanbone The Smashivator, was killed.Winters is put on trial for the death of Smashivator but, as the defense attorney points out, real life is not the same as online life and Poanbone The Smashivator’s real life counterpart, Alan Fairley, is alive and well in sitting in the courtroom. The whole thing, hashtagged on social media as #LifeOnTrial, is quite farcical and yet it points out just how important a solid internet connection can be when us offline types go o…

WhatsApp Calling Finally Comes to iPhone

It’s not often that iOS users have to wait for a new app or a new app feature for this long, but WhatsApp made them wait for over two months, and has finally rolled out the much awaited Voice Calling feature. The latest update rolling out on the App Store has WhatsApp calling ready, but the feature will be rolled out in phases “over next several weeks” like it happened on Android last time around. We always knew that iPhone users will soon get the WhatsApp voice calling feature, but didn’t know how soon. Brian Acton, WhatsApp’s co-founder had promised late last month that iPhone users will get the voice calling feature within a couple of weeks and he has almost kept his word. The world’s most popular messaging platform recently announced that it has hit 800 million monthly active users. No wonder it takes weeks and months to roll out a major feature like Voice calling to all the users on all the platforms. Initially, the feature was invite based on Android and only recently, it was open…

Twitter Moves To Strengthen Its Abuse Blocking Policies & Enforcement

Twitter has turned up the heat on its battle against trolls. The company announced today several policy and enforcement changes that it hopes will curb the online harassment that has plagued the social media platform. The first change is a tweak to the language of Twitter’s violent threat policy that will give the company’s support staff more leeway to go after violators. The previous policy prohibited “direct, specific threats of violence against others.” The new language dumps “direct” and “specific,” prohibiting “threats of violence against others or promot[ing] violence against others” and will allow Twitter to target a wider range of threatening behavior.“Our previous policy was unduly narrow and limited our ability to act on certain kinds of threatening behavior,” director of product management Shreyas Doshi wrote in a blog post. “The updated language better describes the range of prohibited content and our intention to act when users step over the line into abuse.”On the enforce…
