Video Is A Marketer’s Best Friend

Marketers have a lot on their plates, and their jobs aren’t getting any easier. Marketing technology is getting more complex. Sales teams continue to want more leads, but they don’t want just more, they want better leads.Buyers have more resources to review on their own before engaging with vendors, and their paths to purchase are more circuitous and difficult to track than ever. And there is more clutter and noise for marketers to break through, forcing them to up their game in the battle for attention span.No doubt there are hundreds of marketing tech vendors who would happily say they can help address each of these challenges. But there is one relatively easy step you can take to start addressing all of them — start using video in a strategic way.I realize that sounds simple, but when you consider the power of video as an engaging content medium that can help you educate, inspire and even entertain your prospects and customers, there’s a strong argument to make that video is the mo…

Mobile Fanatics: Where Social, Video And Calls Intersect

Mobile has dominated much of the current conversation surrounding call analytics, and a recent consumer survey from the Local Search Association bolstered that trend. But as the frenzy over mobile in call measurement and call analytics continues, it’s imperative that marketers don’t ignore other growing media channels, such as social and video, that they can leverage to help drive calls. The Mobile Fanatics study, conducted by Thrive Analytics for LSA, found that 60 percent of U.S. adults choose mobile devices over PCs when searching for local products or services online.A segment of hyper-connected mobile users, aptly called the “Mobile Fanatics,” makes up 43 percent of the smartphone user population. This percentage was only 30% just a little more than a year ago. Not only does this group conduct more than 10 mobile searches a week, but Mobile Fanatics are more likely to use social and video when making purchase decisions. What’s more, the study identifies high mobile-driven purchase …

Moto 360 Smartwatch Updated with WiFi Support, new Gestures, Quick-draw Emojis and More

The Apple Watch officially launches today for consumers and it so happens that Lenovo-owned Motorola has now decided to release a pretty important updated to its Moto 360 smartwatch. So, if you’re not planning to wait for the second-generation Moto 360 and you are just fine with the current one, the gadget now comes with some really useful new features. The biggest new option is the WiFi connection; but the true techies out there knew that it was only a matter of time, as there’s always been a disabled WiFi chip inside. With this new option, you’ll be able to use your Moto 360 when you are out of Bluetooth range from your phone. The battery has been improved since the Android Wear 5.0.2 update, perhaps that’s what was needed for the WiFi support to be enabled. If you ask me, this is the first thing I’d look to into a smartwatch if I wanted to buy one. I would want my smartwatch to be as independent as possible, and not just an extension of my phone.Besides WiFi support, the Moto 360 is …

Besides this standout feature, the device also gets a powerful 4000mAh battery which could appeal to many consumers looking to get a more prolonged use from their device. The smartphone will be available from April 30 in China only, starting from $288 (Rs. 18,364) for the 2GB variant and $377 (Rs 23,999) for the 4GB version.The Lenovo K80 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, being powered by a 64-bit Intel Atom 1.8 GHz processor. Dos Equis Offers Chance to Win Most Interesting Man on #DosDeMayo

This year, Cinco de Mayo falls on a Tuesday. A Tuesday! After Monday, that’s probably the worst day of the week to host a worldwide celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. So Dos Equis has a better idea.As he did once before, the brand’s Most Interesting Man proposes Cinco de Mayo be celebrated on Saturday, May 2 or Dos de Mayo.In a video, the Most Interesting Man, one of today’s most successful brand icons, is urging everyone to celebrate on May 2. He makes note of the fact that on May 2 “many beautiful women who will be donning their largest hats to watch very small men ride very big horses” and “in the city of sin, two particularly fit gentleman are crowning the day with a fight for a bell which, frankly, I find to be more ostentatious than practical.” Dos Equis is also hosting a contest asking people to submit their “most extraordinary way” they plan to celebrate Cinco this year with a contest hosted on Facebook and hasht…

Microsoft Surprises With FY15 Q3 Earnings Beat

Microsoft announced solid third-quarter fiscal results Thursday, coming out ahead of analyst expectations.Analysts had expected a somber performance of 3 percent growth to $21.06 billion in revenues and earnings per share (EPS) of $0.51. Instead company revenues rose 6 percent year-over-year to $21.7 billion and EPS came in at $0.61 for the quarter. Gross margin increased 1 percent.Like other US companies this quarter, Microsoft blamed currency headwinds (foreign exchange rates on a strong dollar) for negatively impacting revenues. The company said revenue would have grown 9 percent and margin would have increased 4 percent if foreign exchange rates were not a factor. The Devices and Consumer division saw revenue increase 8 percent year-over-year to $9.0 billion.Bing paid search advertising revenue rose 21 percent year-over-year, with Bing market share hitting 20.1 percent in the US, according to comScore. Microsoft, again, credited higher search volume and revenue per search for the r…

Google Posts Revs Of $17.3 Billion In Q1, Misses On Earnings And Revenue

This afternoon Google announced quarterly earnings of just under $17.3 billion, which was up 12 percent over Q1 2014. However both revenue and earnings missed financial analyst consensus expectations.Google is blaming the performance in part on currency issues and a strong dollar. Without currency issues revenue growth would have been 17 percent year over year.Total advertising revenues were roughly $15.51 billion, representing 11 percent year over year growth. However ad revenues were off 5 percent vs. Q4 2014.Paid clicks were mixed; they were up on Google sites but down on its network. CPCs were down 13 percent on Google sites and 7 percent in the aggregate. There was no discussion of mobile revenues in the release, which are still widely thought to be the culprit behind the declining CPCs.The CPC slide is part of a multi-quarter trend that Google has yet to stop (but see contrary explanation below). Many investors will see these results as continued confirmation of slowing top-line…

Twitter, Uber, New York Times Among The First Apple Watch Apps Being Released

Tomorrow the Apple Watch pre-orders start arriving. And almost immediately those early adopters will be downloading specialized watch apps onto their wrist computers.Just as Apple has a dedicated section for iPad-specific apps the App Store features an area now dedicated to Watch apps. The Wall Street Journal reports (via Ars Technica) that there are “more than 3,000 Watch apps” already available. However my check of the App Store through iTunes and the Apple Watch app, reflects just over a 100 apps that are currently visible and being showcased. Some of those featured and “first out of the gate” include the New York Times, Twitter, Uber, SPG (hotels),, Evernote, the WSJ, CNN, Target, Expedia, Flipboard, Citi, among others, as well as those above. While it’s uncertain how many Watch pre-orders there were — some financial analysts estimated between one and two million — developers want to be ready in the event the Watch proves to be a big hit. There’s an advantage to being early.…
