Brand Alignment And Content Strategy: Synergies That Sell

Content marketing has become a big, amorphous topic that different stakeholders in an organization like to attack from a variety of angles.Writers and other content producers are concerned with creating content that goes viral and represents the business’ goals. Sales teams are concerned with content that generates leads who are primed to buy. Executive management is looking beneath the hood of any initiative to demonstrate ROI and make sure that money spent is ultimately driving sales. One perspective that underlies the whole discussion is this: Where does the intersection of brand building and selling happen in content marketing? Do the two just happen naturally, with great content building your brand as it sells? Or do you sell and speak authoritatively, which in turn builds your brand?Without this becoming a chicken-and-egg discussion, let’s take a closer look at how to successfully find the synergies between your brand alignment activities and your content marketing to help drive …

Google Plus Is Small, But Still Not Dead Yet

This is the column I never wanted to have to write again.Almost a year ago I published here “Why Google Plus Will Not Die (But May Change).” That article was in response to the latest (at that time) wave of “Google Will Kill Google+!” posts that sprang up after the departure of Vic Gundotra, the “father” of Google+.Certainly now I can declare a win for me on that one. Google+ is still very much with us nearly a year after the departure of its founder. In my post back then I allowed that the company might kill the brand name (“Google+”) without ending the social network, but it didn’t even do that. Google+ is still Google+.But that hasn’t stopped tech journalists and bloggers from once again declaring the soon-to-be death of Google+. The latest wave of such posts and articles came after the announcement that Bradley Horowitz was taking over the reins from Gundotra successor Dave Besbris.I’d like to address the rumors generated out of that changeover, as well as some findings from a rec…

Pinterest Launches “Marketing Developer Partners” Program

Pinterest today announced a partnership with marketing technology companies to give businesses more tools and services for marketing on Pinterest.Called Marketing Developer Partners, this is Pinterest’s first official program to give API access to companies offering social media management platforms to brands and businesses. Facebook and Twitter both have similar programs to help coordinate third-party integration, which makes this a natural move for Pinterest as it continues make a case to be a serious alternative for marketers’ dollars.Pinterest has selected 10 partners — Ahalogy, Buffer, Curalate, Expion, Newscred, Percolate, Shoutlet, Spredfast, Sprinklr and Tailwind — to launch the program, giving them access to the company’s content publishing API. Some — including Pinterest specialist Tailwind — already had beta access to the API but all now are offering their customers tools to manage Pinterest along with other networks.“These platforms help businesses scale and optimize their…

How To Turn Data Into Dollars: 3 Stages To Activate Your Data

The digital age is well upon us. But as marketers, if we step back just a bit and examine these exciting times we’re living in, we also have to recognize that this new era of data and analytics represents what is still a very nascent industry. And if you’re like most organizations, that means that while you might be collecting more data than ever before, odds are good that the challenge lies in activating that data to derive some measurable impact or value from it.I’ve written before about the three layers of data and analytics success. Let’s take a look at some very real, very tangible things we can do with data along a very straightforward path that many practitioners are finding tremendously valuable. It’s pretty simple:First, use data to tell us what happened in the past and see what we can learn from things that have worked and those that have not. Then, we can use data to tell us what’s happening now and what we can do to optimize the digital experiences of the present. And finally,…

Couchlet is a Convenient Way to Charge your Phone from Your Couch or bed

It’s hard not to get your smartphone in bed with you, when you’ve just heard about that new awesome game. Or when you just want to watch a movie stream, or check your Facebook feed, or whatnot. And as you’re all set and comfy, you realize that your battery is almost dead. The last thing you want to do is go and find that charger. Somebody has thought about this, as well, and that’s why they came up with Couchlet.Couchlet is a very simple USB port which transforms your couch or bed into a power station. If you are sitting on the couch while your phone is charging or you are having trouble reaching your charger from the bed, then Couchlet is something you might be interested in. For $16, you will get one USB couchlet and a one 6-foot USB cable.Couchlet is quite slim, so you can easily fit it between the cushions of your couch or under your bed’s pillow; and the pretty long cable helps quite a lot, since you can use all the surface. The Couchlet comes with two USB ports and a folding arm…

Facebook “Evaluating” Whether To Make Apple Watch App

One of the biggest draws of the new Apple Watch was the constant connectivity to peers, highlighted by social media apps. While Twitter and Instagram Apple Watch apps show great promise, one app is noticeably missing: Facebook.During the initial press conference in March, Apple CEO Tim Cook showed an example of Facebook and stated that “You can connect to social media”. So, where is this Facebook app that gives users the connection? We reached out to Facebook looking for an update and a Facebook spokesperson gave the following statement:“We’re excited for the launch of the Apple Watch. We have nothing to announce today, but we’re always evaluating new platforms to build the best Facebook experience for people.” So Facebook has been prominently displayed during the initial product pitch, created an app for its own Instagram platform — yet is evaluating? While the Facebook app doesn’t exist users can still get information from the network. Danny Sullivan pointed out in hisApple Watch soc…

10 Best iPhone and iPad Apps This Week

Yes, the Best iPhone and iPad Apps of the Week is back. Raju PP, our Founder-Editor is handing over the baton to me. The last time he reprised the segment, he noted “The App Store continues to get pounded with several new apps and games from old and new developers, most of which are run-of-the-mill. It has become increasingly difficult to spot quality apps from the rest (not sure if it’s because I was away from iOS for almost an year).”I disagree.I’ve been using a dingy old iPhone 5 and iPad Mini and iOS app’s quality and finish is still unmatched by anything on Android. As you’ll see in this edition and in coming weeks, the iOS App Store is well alive and thriving (and below the run-of-the-mill apps, there’s still some gold to be discovered every week). This week marked the launch of the Apple Watch. Which means many developers took this opportunity to come out with new apps or big updates for existing apps. Nothing like a new Apple product launch to climb the App Store charts. For in…
