Mortgages Coming To Google Compare, New Automotive Ads Among AdWords Livestream Announcements

Google announced a number of new search advertising format and measurement initiatives in a livestream Tuesday, hosted by Jerry Dischler, Vice President of Product Management for AdWords. No surprise, many of the announcements focused on improving mobile experiences and giving marketers better tools for measuring what has become a complex path to purchase, what Google refers to as “micro-moments”. The updates came against the backdrop of Google’s first official announcement that smartphone searches are now outpacing those on desktop in ten countries.Last year’s AdWords livestream focused heavily on app discovery and engagement formats. This year, Google released a study released in partnership with Ipsos that shows heavy usage of search and app stores among smartphone users looking for apps and highlighted. Dischler also mentioned the recent pilot program of showing ads in search results on Google Play, noting that the company would be talking more about ads in Google Play at Google I/…

Digital Talent Optimization: The Development Of The Hybrid Marketer

For years, digital marketing disciplines have been converging — that’s not news. But what is notable is the evolution of distinct multi-channel skill sets that marketers have developed. These skills sets are composed of knowledge in groups of channels that commonly interact with one another. This evolution has led to the development of marketers with highly desirable skills sets and knowledge, and has also caused gaps in talent acquisition as well as skill sets that haven’t quite developed (most notably, analytics skills) but are still much needed. So how do you close the talent gap?The Digital Talent Gap TodayConsider the ideal mix of proficiencies for any given primary skill set in digital marketing. How much more efficient would your teams be if …Your content staff had knowledge of SEO, social and email marketing?Your social staff knew the value of good content, analytics and even public relations?Your SEOs understood mobile, social and content? There are countless combinations in wh…

Advice To The New CMO: How To Deal With Your Existing Agency

One of the most frustrating parts of working at an online marketing agency is losing a client for the wrong reasons. Ask any agency veteran, and they are sure to have numerous stories that sound something like this:We had an incredible relationship with the client for five years. We completely restructured their campaigns, doubled revenue, and totally dominated the competition. The results were so good that the client was finally able to afford a pricey chief marketing officer. A month after joining, without even meeting with us once, the CMO sent us a curt letter telling us he was terminating our contract in favor of an agency that had no experience in the client’s vertical!Agencies fear the dreaded “change in management” — when a new VP of marketing or CMO joins a client — more than anything else, because stories like the one above happen all the time. And surely illogical agency firings can’t be good for the new CMOs either. Given that the average CMO only lasts for 48 months, it’s…

Take Better Selfies with your iPhone’s Rear Camera with the SelfieX App

The front camera of a smartphone is meant for taking selfies, and we’ve seen OEMs releasing new products with better and better front snappers. However, in most of the cases, the rear camera is still the best one you have, and maybe sometimes you want to take a better picture of yourself, or maybe the front one has a pretty poor quality. The problem, however, with the rear camera, is that you don’t actually see the captured surface, which can become pretty annoying. But if you’re the owner of an iPhone, there’s now an app that can help you with that. SelfieX is a new entry on the iTunes store and it has already amassed great ratings from those who have downloaded it.

The concept of the app is very simple, just hold your iPhone up to your face and the app will tell you which direction to move in order to get the best shot. The app takes the picture automatically, so that you won’t have to search for the shutter button to press it, which is really convenient. Thus, when you will in the fr…

Say Goodbye to Windows Media Center, Won’t be Part of Windows 10

As you know, Windows Media Center is the default digital video recorder and media player that Microsoft pre-loads in its Windows operating systems. Albeit it lets you do a lot of things and is pretty versatile, Windows users have gradually resorted to the use of similar third-party software, which has made Microsoft decide to offer WMC just as an add-on Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro.Speaking to ZDnet, the company has now officially confirmed that it will officially remove Windows Media Center from Windows 10,but we should’ve seen this company, especially as Redmond has discontinued development of Windows Media Center in 2009. Gabe Aul from Windows said the following:We can confirm that due to decreased usage, Windows Media Center will not be part of Windows 10.— Gabriel Aul (@GabeAul) May 4, 2015Therefore, you should know that any PC that is upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 will lose the Media Center functionality, and you can’t get it by downgrading, so think …

For Android, the iPhone is Not the Enemy, it is a Benchmark!

That is a very good phone.”When Xiaomi’s Hugo Barra says that about a device, you would expect it to refer to one of his own company’s phones, or perhaps one of the high-profile Androids in tech town. But nay, the device he was referring to was from the company that many of his brethren consider THE enemy. It was an iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone vs Android relationship has been at best a rocky one. Rare is the week that passes without a member of either camp taking a poke at the other in the form of an article, meme or social networking post. And indeed, a staple feature of most Android flagship presentations is an assault on the Cupertino product. Be it Honor, Xiaomi, Samsung or Gionee, this year has seen almost every Android manufacturer spend a good deal of time running down the iPhone and showing how their product is superior in their presentations. And yet, we suspect that beneath all that aggression is something that is more respect than derision. When we were talking with Gionee Indi…

Audi Rick Rolls Those Expecting #WomenDrivers Meme Hilarity

Stereotypes. Sometimes loosely based on facts. More often based on isolated situations that are then propagated into gospel. Either way, not really a good thing for a race of sentient beings attempting to better themselves and improve the way of human life.Enter the stereotype that women drivers are bad. In fact, the notion was pretty much institutionalized thanks to super-stereotypical advertising in the Mad Men era when women were painted as helpless being who didn’t know the difference between a steering wheel and a gear shift.Nothing of course, could be further from the truth and, as a press release from Audi Ireland so eloquently puts it, no one drives with their genitals so why should we assume a person with a certain set of private parts drives better than one with another.Working with Atomic, the automotive brand launched a brilliantly rick roll-esque social media campaign to combat the stereotype, luring in viewers expecting to see a stereotypical sexist put-down. The techniq…
