Nissan To Award Altima To The Winner Of Its #AltimaChaseSweeps Social Scavenger Hunt

A couple weeks ago, Nissan gave several people the ride of their lives. It’s part of the brand’s #RideOfYourLife campaign which kicked off last year and takes unsuspecting Mall shoppers on a joyride with a professional driver. You can look at that here: This year, Nissan has added a social media-based scavenger hunt into the mix. Called “The Altima Chase,” the hunt kicked off with another video that has a car thief steal a Nissan Altima from the very glass box from which the vehicle was revealed to the Mall patrons for the joyride portion of the campaign. The video points viewers to a contest site where, over a three week period, people will be given clues to solve that will, ultimately lead to the location of an actual Nissan Altima one winner will take home.In addition to the site, clues will be shared using the hashtag #AltimaChaseSweeps across Nissan’s social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.Nissan is promoting the contest on multiple social media platforms: J…

How The Right Social Insights Can Boost Your Click-Through Rates

Most social marketers have a strong sense of what kind of traction their content gets on each social channel. They’ll also probably be able to tell you how those metrics compare to the brand’s main competitors. This is the type of information that marketers obsess over, since it helps them determine the successes and failures of a social marketing strategy and benchmark their campaigns. These are important metrics to understand, of course, but they’re hardly the only social insights that should matter to a brand marketer. The real value of social data is what it can reveal about your audience. What do they care about? What inspires them? What do they do on the weekends? What TV shows do they watch? Why do they choose to buy specific products?Social channels offer a goldmine of information about audiences’ affinities — information that can help marketers improve any aspect of a marketing campaign. One particular area where audience insights can make a tremendous difference is social media…

Millennial Media, 33Across Go All In On 100 Percent Viewability

As the digital advertising industry takes a measured approach to adopting viewability as the standard metric for buying and selling digital ad impressions, two firms announced Tuesday, that they will guarantee that 100 percent of ad impressions are seen. Millennial Media is making the guarantee on in-app ads while 33Across is extending viewability guarantees across desktop, tablet and mobile web inventory. Both are working with Integral Ad Science to verify viewability. In a coup for Integral Ad Science, both 33Across and Millennial Media are relying on IAS to set themselves apart in these early days as the industry moves to charging advertisers only for ad impressions that have the opportunity to be seen by users. “The mobile ad ecosystem is desperately seeking guidelines around viewability,” said Michael Barrett, President & CEO at Millennial Media and IAB Board Member. “Today, we are choosing the highest standard possible by offering a 100% in-app viewability guarantee. We have …

As a marketer, I know there can be a lot of pressure to make your business stand out from the competition. Verizon To Buy AOL For More Than $4B, Extend Into Digital Advertising, Video

As you’re already aware, Verizon Communications is buying AOL for roughly $4.4 billion. The move makes a lot of sense for the US carrier and cable provider because it will give Verizon digital video properties and distribution as well as online and mobile advertising assets. If it can be boiled down the deal is about “over the top” distribution of video, mobile and programmatic (video) advertising and the ISP business. In terms of all three areas it’s a good move for Verizon. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong, who will stay on after the deal closes, says it will be good for AOL and its employees. The deal must still be approved by federal regulators. But there shouldn’t be any issue there. It also means there won’t be any Yahoo-AOL merger. The announcement immediately calls to mind the failed merger between TimeWarner and AOL, which was valued at more than $170 billion. This is a different deal.Verizon is a phone company at heart with three businesses: wireless, wireline service and FIOS (TV/interne…

Content And SEO: Getting Basic With The Basics

Nothing matters more in search engine optimization than content. Nothing. And, while search visibility is a high priority for most brands (and as SEO providers rebrand themselves as “content marketing” companies), in a survey I conducted of more than 75 very senior marketing executives, most at Fortune 500 brands, SEO ranked dead last on their list of content marketing priorities.Yet when it comes to having a well-optimized Web presence that’s visible to search engines, content is the alpha and omega of those efforts — more specifically, written content. Search engines can only crawl, index and understand text — not images, videos, podcasts, photos or any other type of graphic or multimedia content. That’s not to say you can’t optimize non-text content marketing elements. Keywords Are KeyStrong, optimized written copy is the most critical part of any SEO initiative. But before the first sentence, tagline or headline are written, first venture into the heart of search optimization by ident…

What’s A Video View? On Facebook, Only 3 Seconds Vs. 30 At YouTube

As Facebook continues to rise as a video powerhouse, a key concern has also risen with it: what exactly is a video view? As it turns out, the standard of a YouTube “views” is 10 times higher than that of Facebook or Facebook-owned Instagram. We surveyed all the major social video platforms to see what counts as a view. For Facebook and Instagram, viewing only 3 seconds of a video of any length is considered a view. For YouTube, it’s “around” 30 seconds, the service tells us. In all those cases, the overall length of a video isn’t factored in.It’s an odd way to count at a time when for display ads there’s increasing pressure about the accuracy of view statistics. Of course, with display ads, the metric is easier to determine. They’re either seen in total or not. But with video, is only a few seconds enough? The Media Rating Council and IAB say yes; as we reported Monday, those organizations define a video ad as viewable “when at least 50 percent of the ad’s pixels are visible on a scree…

An increasing number of users are reporting a battery drainage issue in their Android devices after updating to the latest version of Play Services. Google rolled out v7.3 of Play Services late last month.Play Services is a background service and API package present in GMS-opted Android build which facilitates improved communication between different Google Mobile Services such as Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube among others. The v7.3 version of the service introduced new APIs to Android Wear and Google FIT to Android. TweetDeck Adds Tweet Confirmation To Help Prevent Social Media Misfires

It’s a social media pro’s worst nightmare: posting a personal tweet on a brand account. It can be embarrassing and potentially career-threatening.To guard against such errant tweets, TweetDeck added a safety net today, giving users the option to require a confirmation step before sending a tweet. The feature, available to all TweetDeck users on web, Chrome, Windows and the latest Mac app, is enabled by clicking on the Accounts tab, selecting the account profile and activating the “Confirmation step” toggle. After that point, any tweet a user composes from TweetDeck won’t be sent unless the “Ready to Tweet?” check box is clicked. It should come in handy for people juggling multiple accounts and also for people who want to force themselves to take a extra look at tweets — for spelling, grammar and taste — before hitting the send button.New on TweetDeck! You can now add a confirmation step before Tweeting from any account. https://t.co/8eKB5u3yMhhttp://pic.twitter.com/HYc3Gq46SA— TweetDeck…

Carousel Ads Swing Around For Facebook Mobile App Ads

Last year Facebook launched a carousel format for Facebook ads that helped brands parlay multiple objectives into one ad space. The format allows advertisers to highlight different attributes, benefits or even products in one ad location. Now the carousel will be offered for mobile app ads.The new format will support 5 images and links that will scroll horizontally. This format will be available for both app install ads as well as engagement ads. According to Facebook the non-mobile carousel link ads drive a 30-50% lower cost-per-conversion and 20-30% lower than single-image ads.The unique storytelling aspect that the carousel format offers should be a hit with advertisers and their targeted audiences. Mobile carousel ads will be available for link ads in the API, Power Editor and Ad Create Tool while the Mobile Install and Engagement Ads are available in the API only. For more information see the official release from Facebook. The post Carousel Ads Swing Around For Facebook Mobile App…

Chinese Smartphone Market Slows As Apple Market Share Grows

User growth in the world’s largest smartphone market is slowing. That’s according to IDC estimates of Q1 2015 smartphone shipments. Despite this, Apple has managed to grab the top spot in terms of Q1 market share in the country. The firm is measuring shipments and not ultimate sales to Chinese consumers. Nonetheless, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have powered significant growth for Apple around the world. Beyond Apple only home-grown Chinese brands (Xiaomi, Huawei) grew, while Samsung and others saw year over year declines according to IDC.Source: IDC The slowing is driven by “reduced operator subsidies” and by the fact that there are relatively few mobile subscribers in China left to upgrade to smartphones.Analyst estimates put Chinese smartphone penetration at roughly 90 percent. This may be an aggressive estimate but other third party sources also assert there are already nearly 1.3 billion mobile phones in a country of roughly 1.4 billion people.China now becomes a market for brand and O…
