Less Than 1/3 Of The World’s Top CMOs Are Active On Twitter

Brands may talk a big game when it comes to being social, but it turns out very few of the CMOs from the world’s top companies are on Twitter. In an attempt to find which of the world’s biggest brands have a CMO presence on the social network, we researched Interbrand’s Top 100 Global Brands of 2014 to identify the companies that have a CMO or a top-level marketing executive actively tweeting. Much to our surprise, less than a third of Interbrand’s top 100 global brands have CMOs with active Twitter accounts.Only six brands – Apple, GE, HP, Coca-Cola, SAP and IBM – have CMOs with 10,000 or more followers. Of Interbrand’s Top 100 global brands, 42 had CMOs or top-level marketing executives with Twitter accounts, but only 31 of those accounts were active. Even more surprising, only six brands – Apple, GE, HP, Coca-Cola, SAP and IBM – have CMOs with 10,000 or more followers. For the 31 active accounts, the median follower number was approximately 1,500. Across the board, follower numbers f…

NBC Stunt Promotes Stanley Cup Coverage By Surprising Hockey Fans With The Actual Stanley Cup

To hype its coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs, NBC Sports Network, with help from Stun Creative, orchestrated a faux focus group for hockey fans and then gave them a gigantic surprise.Hockey fans were enlisted to attend a focus group at which they were asked what the Stanley Cup meant to them and why they love hockey so much. Once their session ended, they were ushered into another room to, ostensibly, fill out some paperwork. But that ruse quickly gave way to overwhelming excitement when the focus group attendees realized the actual Stanley Cup was right there in the room with them. Check it out: Since its appearance on May 29, the video has amassed 21,000 views on YouTube. But the real action is on Facebook where it has been viewed 570,000 times and has achieved 6,038 shares and 2,345 likes: In addition to Facebook, NBC Sports posted the video on Twitter:When the #StanleyCup means everything to you, how would you react? #StanleyCupSurprisehttps://t.co/YNcBL5bpoT— NHL on NBC (@NHLonN…

Apple Watch Sales: 8 Million Or 40 Million? Guesses Are All Over The Place

Canadapanda / Shutterstock.com This morning Apple announced expanded availability of the Apple Watch. The company has not issued any sales figures but did say this in its press release: “The response to Apple Watch has surpassed our expectations in every way.”What does that mean? Is it typical Apple self-promotion; does it refer to early adopter enthusiasm? Or does it refer to sales that have outstripped expectations? There is an unusually wide range of sales estimates and projections in the market for the new product. For example Slice Intelligence estimated that through mid-May Apple had sold roughly 2.5 million watches in the US. Slice reported that after an early surge orders were flat. By comparison equities analyst Trip Chowdhry asserted that Apple has sold 7 million watches to date.Out of the gate, there was a widely variable range of estimates, from a conservative 8 million to a giddy 41 million in year one, globally. As time has passed, some analysts have lowered their sales pro…

10 Best Practices To Winning In Digital Retail (E-Retail)

Last summer, I wrote about Google’s biggest fears — native and e-retail search. Given the latest predictions around Google’s Buy Now button, it seems I was not that far off!Since that article was published, I’ve had a lot of clients reach out and ask what winning in e-retail looks like and how to actually win in e-retail sites likes Amazon and Walmart. With the online → offline path to purchase, we have the opportunity to change preferences between the time the consumer leaves the computer and when he or she picks up the product from the physical shelf. However, the e-retail path to purchase is often much shorter, and there is not a lot of opportunity to affect behavior after someone has made a purchase decision. In e-retail, the user goes straight from Discovery to Preference to Purchase. In traditional shopping, there is a limited selection, and product availability plays a big role. In e-retail this is almost never a concern; the choices are endless, and technology allows for real-ti…

Know if Any Rogue App/Service is Spying on You with Micro Snitch

Try as we might, there’s always the risk for our devices to become infected or the target of a hacker’s attack. And what’s even worse, there are situations when we won’t even be aware of that happening. I am telling you from my experience, as my Gmail account has been hacked a couple of times.Another common type of security breach is when your camera or monitor is being maneuvered into sending sensible information to the hacker. And while Windows users have at their disposal a couple of tools to use for protection, things are different for Mac owners. But not anymore, if we are to give credit to MicroSnitch, a new Mac app released by Austrian developer Objective Development. The purpose of this new app is to notify you when your Mac’s build-in camera and microphone are activated, with or without your knowledge. The app stays in the menu bar, operating in the background to monitor any microphone and camera activity. And if it detects that a certain application start to record audio or v…

Mobilegeddon Hits and Misses

It has been more than a month since Google’s mobile update occurred, and many marketers are moving on to the next thing, having not seen much of an impact from the update formerly known as “Mobilegeddon.”Not every site is so lucky, however. Looking at the data, it’s clear that many sites were not only hit by the mobile update, but hit hard. While we don’t have traffic data for every site we don’t own, tools like SEMrush make it easy to see which mobile rankings were lost after April 21, and how that compares to desktop. For example, looking at Moz.com, which is the example we predicted could lose up to 3% of total traffic back in March, we can see that both desktop and smartphone traffic were affected since the April 21 update. If we compare April 26, five days after the mobile update, with May 25, we can see that it’s no longer ranking for 293, or 18%, of the top three listings it had before the mobile update, compared with 230, or 14%, of the top three keywords in desktop rankings.Over…

Here at Technology Personalized we’re no strangers to apps which can help you track your mileage, and in the past we’ve talked about Truvolo and Roadster. A new free app has come to our attention and it sports some new features which are definitely worth taking into account. Developed by troii Software GmbH, the new Tour app could be the mileage log app you were looking to use on your iPhone. The main feature of the app is that it comes with automatic mileage logging, which saves you the trouble of inputting all by yourself. The app knows you’re on foot or going by car and automatically tracks your mileage. It comes with Foursquare integration, as well, letting you easily choose the places you’ve visited.A recent update has been released which comes with iBeacon Car Detection, being able to turn recording off once you exit the car. Furthermore, this new version also brought support for Apple Watch, so you will now be able to make use of all these nice features from your wrist. So, if yo…

Microsoft Promises Better Windows SSH Support with Tighter Integration to Control Linux Machines

According to Microsoft’s PowerShell team, Windows will soon support the SSH encryption protocol for remote access. Thus, in the near future, users will be able to remote-control Linux PCs much easier than before. With this move, Microsoft is further showing its support for open source, and this is definitely going to be appreciated by programmers and supporters of free software.Secure Shell allows a user to run commands on a machine’s command prompt without without having to be physically present near the machine. Furthemore, it’s also possible to establish a secure channel over an insecure network in a client-server architecture, thus connecting an SSH client application with an SSH server. The SSH library used by Windows will be OpenSSH and Microsoft said it plans to contribute to the core library, as well. As to when and how will the SSH support be available, Microsoft said that its PowerShell team will provide details in the near future on availability dates. So, basically, with th…

HTC One ME with QHD Display, Helio 10 Chipset, 20MP Camera and Fingerprint Scanner Unveiled

If the HTC One M9 didn’t excite you with its FHD display and you could do away with less metal, the Taiwanese phone maker has a new flagship-ish smartphone up its sleeve. The company today announced the HTC One ME, one of the most exciting smartphones it has ever made.Instead of the full metal body, the HTC One ME comes wrapped in a polycarbonate shell with metal frame. It’s pretty much like the One M9+ the company had launched earlier this year, but there are some noticeable differences including a fingerprint scanner in the new phone which could feed information of up to 5 fingers. As for the specification, the One ME sports a 5.2-inch display with QHD (2560 x 1400 pixels) screen resolution flaunting an impressive 565 ppi pixel density — evidently the sharpest display HTC has placed in a phone.Other hardware specs don’t disappoint either. The One ME is powered by Helio X10 eight-core chipset (the Mediatek made processor competes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810) clocked at 2.2GHz. It’s…

Review: Xiaomi Mi 4i – The Return of the Price Jedi

They say that well begun is half done, but for Xiaomi in India, the insanely quick start provided by the likes of the Mi 3 and the Redmi 1S has been a bit of a double-edged sword. Yes, those two products with their too-good-to-be-true price tags did create a sensation and multi-second sellouts online (the Mi 3 came to India at Rs 13,999 and the Redmi 1S at Rs 5,999 and neither at the time of its launch had anything remotely close to it in terms of competition) but on the flip side, they also raised expectations. Raised them to the extent that some considered the Mi 4 to be too expensive at Rs 19,999, and questioned whether they should be getting more from the Redmi 2 at Rs 6,999. Both those worthies were good products in their own right, but unlike the Mi 3 and Redmi 1S, had to contend not only with some rather stiff competition (the likes of the Honor 6 and OnePlus One, for instance) but also with customers who wanted even more at an even lesser price. And with the Mi 4i, Xiaomi can c…
