Copyright Aaron Durand (@everydaydude) for Twitter, Inc.
Twitter has hired a hiring search firm to help the company find a replacement for soon-to-be-departed CEO Dick Costolo. The company shared an update on its progress today, saying it’s formed a Search Committee to find Costolo’s replacement, and that committee has hired Spencer Stuart, an international executive recruiting agency to help find its new CEO.At the same time, Twitter essentially announced that interim CEO Jack Dorsey won’t get consideration for the job because he’s also the CEO of payments company Square:The Committee will only consider candidates for recommendation to the full Board who are in a position to make a full-time commitment to Twitter. The search is proceeding with a sense of urgency but the Committee will take the time necessary to find the right CEO to lead the next phase of Twitter’s growth. On the conference call discussing Costolo’s departure, Dorsey said that Twitter is “looking for someone who really …

5 Reasons Marketers Fail With Data

In the recent “Big Data for Marketing & Sales: Data Accuracy to Business Impact” study by IDG Connect, nearly half of respondents are still finding it difficult to draw insights from data. And at the turn of the 20th century, marketing pioneer John Wanamaker was credited with the popular saying, “Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted; the trouble is I don’t know which half.”As it turns out, understanding the true impact of marketing and advertising programs is and has always been hard. The unique blend of art and science that makes up the work today’s marketers are doing is still chasing after the same goals: How do we most effectively make the rightpeople aware of our products and services, get them to take actions we want them to take? And then how do we figure out what we did right and wrong so we can do it again, only this time more efficiently? In recent years, the promise of big data has claimed to solve all of these woes, once and for all. The magic of unparalleled …

How to Let Others Upload Files to your Dropbox Account

A class teacher needs her students to submit homework at the end of the week. A company wants designers to send the mockups and design drafts for review. A news organization is asking public to upload documents to their website. An event organizer is requesting attendees to send any photos or videos that they may have taken at the event. What do you think is the easiest solution for all these use cases? Yes, e-mail. People can send you files by email and you can then use the Save Attachments script to automatically download these files to your computer. The big problem is that you cannot receive big files via email and second, it does take some work to organize stuff that arrives in email.Wouldn’t it be easier if you could create a public folder on the Internet where anyone could go and simply upload the files instead of sending them to you as file attachments. Students can upload assignments, designers can upload mockups and your friends can upload photographs.Let Anyone Upload Files …

Microsoft Sneakily Breaks Its Free Windows 10 Promise Again, Insiders With No Prior Genuine License Will Have to Pay

It’s official: Microsoft just can’t decide how it plans to roll out Windows 10. The company announced last week that it will be making the latest iteration to its desktop operating system available for free to all users signed up for Insider program, also confirming that all users — even pirates — will be able to snag the impending update for free. But then it furtively updated the blog post to make a few key changes that contradict its original claims. In a blog post on late Friday night, company’s Windows Insider chief Gabriel Aul addressed many of the questions users have had about how exactly Microsoft plans to seed out the update. One such question was: what happens to users who are signed up for Insider program and are using the developer preview of Windows 10. To which, Aul had said that all such users will get the final update on July 29 — the day desktop versions of Windows 10 is scheduled to go live.Furthermore, Aul also noted that any user — even folks who don’t have a legit…

Sony’s Updated 1TB PlayStation 4 Ultimate Player Edition is Lighter and More Power Efficient

If you felt that the storage space on the PlayStation 4 just wasn’t enough for all your needs, you will now be happy to hear that Sony is planning to fix that. The gaming company has announced that it’s going to launch a brand new edition of the PS4, called the Ultimate Player Edition, which will come double the storage and will feature some other small improvements. The PS4 Ultimate Player Edition will come with a storage space of 1TB and will go on sale next month, in select Europe and PAL territories from 15th July. However, Sony didn’t reveal its pricing at the moment, only suggesting to ‘check with your local retailer’ for pricing information. As a person who wants to buy a PS4, I would be glad for the new version to have just a slightly bigger price. Of course, even better would be for the Japanese company to discount the current 500GB model and make available the 1TB at the same price the current edition of the PS4 sells for.The new console comes with some minor technological im…

Eddy Cue Clarifies that Apple Music will Pay Artists for Streaming Even During the Free Trial Period

Taylor Swift had kicked off a storm with her open letter to Apple with regards to how Apple Music’s trial period works against the indie artists by asking them to give away their music for free during the three month free trial period to subscribers when it kicks off later this year. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior VP of Internet software and services, clarified the whole thing in a tweet today.#AppleMusic will pay artist for streaming, even during customer’s free trial period— Eddy Cue (@cue) June 22, 2015This is as clear as it can get. Apple will compensate the artists for every song that gets streamed via Apple Music even during the free 3 month trial period. Earlier, Taylor Swift had claimed that it’s unfair for struggling indie artists to go without compensation for 3 months, and to protest that, she told that her upcoming pop album, 1989, will not be made available on Apple Music. In a follow up tweet, Eddy Cue also thanked Taylor Swift for bringing up the issue of indie artists. We hear…
