AT&T Adds Virtual Reality Component To “It Can Wait” Campaign

While it’s derivative of the many slow motion-style impending doom and/or crash-in-reverse safe driving PSAs which have been created over the years, this new effort from Reel FX for AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign adds a virtual reality component. The campaign, expanded to address not just texting while driving but also web usage, social media posting, emailing, and video chatting, includes a 100-city tour that will give people the chance to immerse themselves in the horror of a car accident by strapping on Samsung Gear VR headgear or by downloading an app that will work with the Google Cardboard VR viewer. Also part of the campaign is an online video, created by BBDO New York, which tells the intimate story of several people dramatically affected by drivers who decide to look at their phone while driving. This four-minute PSA will be supported by three 30-second videos, one of which will have a TV spot. Reactions to the video are overwhelmingly positive. One YouTube commenter, Alex Ki…

Cortana is Coming to Windows 10 Users in Australia, Canada, India, Brazil, Mexico and Japan

Cortana is a great feature that Windows 10 will be getting, but its biggest drawback, of course, is that it will primarily be targeting English-speaking countries. And even if you know English, it can’t really match the pleasure and convenience of asking Cortana whatever queries might come to your mind in your own native language. When Windows 10 launches next week, Microsoft’s Cortana voice assistant will be coming to the U.S., UK, China, France, Italy, Germany and Spain. And now Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Insider members from six more countries will get Cortana, as well. These include Australia, Canada (English only), India (English) and Japan in the “coming months.” and Brazil, Mexico and French-speaking Canadians later this year. Even if Cortana is also going to be available in English in India, Australia and Canada, it takes such a long while to bring it to them because Microsoft is busy working on local customization which puts into focus each individual country and cul…

“Unleash Your Rrrr” With Volkswagen

This one will whisk you back to childhood days of playing with your toy cars and making silly engine noises with your mouth. Thanks to Volkswagen and Deutsch LA, you — as an adult — can relive that very same childhood experience with the automaker’s interactive “Unleash Your Rrrr” campaign.Deutsch LA created the “Unleash Your Rrrr” site using “deep learning” artificial intelligence. Using your computer’s webcam and microphone, the site records you making engine noises. It then creates a customized video based on the sound of your voice, matching your engine noises with existing footage of the Golf R.Here’s the campaign trailer featuring famed sound effect master and star of the Police Academy movies, Michael Winslow, a.k.a. the “Man of 10,000 Sound Effects.” Here’s race car driver Tanner Foust attempting to get his Michael Winslow on: And here’s Deutsch LA’s Winston Birch having some fun: VW is promoting “Unleash You Rrrr” on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram:Take the VW Golf R for a spin.…

Survey: 90 Percent Of Retail Shoppers Use Smartphones In Stores

Mobile loyalty company SessionM recently surveyed 12,000 randomly selected US smartphone users about their mobile shopping behaviors. The company found that 85 percent of respondents said their m-commerce buying was steady or had increased vs. a year ago. While roughly 15 percent said mobile buying had increased “significantly,” personal data security and/or poor user experiences (e.g., product images too small) were cited as barriers to the further growth of mobile e-commerce.More than 90 percent of respondents said they had made a retail purchase in the past 90 days. The great majority (73 percent) had made those purchases in a traditional, physical store. Roughly 53 percent agreed that the in-store experience was still superior to online/mobile shopping. However, confirming the findings of many earlier surveys, the overwhelming majority (90 percent) said they use their smartphones in stores while shopping. The top activities on smartphones while in-stores were the following:Price com…

7 Keys To Navigating The Paid Mobile Ecosystem

I’ve got good news and bad news (or no news at all if you’ve been paying attention!). The good news: Mobile success is more attainable than ever. The bad news: With all the tech and tools stuffing the market these days, you need a digital sherpa (or three or four) to figure out how to get there.Back in the day, before the masses moved into mobile, you’d set up a buy with a network (or a few) and/or a few publishers directly, sign the IO, agree to some basic targeting for baby banners directing to your WAP site, stick on some patchwork measurement solution, hope for the best…and watch things break or fail. But with 80% of U.S. internet users now on a smartphone and estimates that 2 billion people worldwide will be on one by 2016, with time on the devices growing by 76% year over year — well, today’s market is bursting with solutions. Check out the advertising flowchart from Luma Partners’ latest mobile Lumascape. Just a tad more complicated and hard to read, right?Buckle your seatbelts …
