This Free Software lets you Downgrade from Windows 10 if you Change your Mind

Windows 10 will be available next week as a free upgrade, and millions out there are most likely planning to make the jump, especially as the next operating system comes with plenty of new features. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to like or that everything will go smooth, so you might ponder over the thought to downgrade to your previous Windows version. However, sometimes this could create even more problems than sticking with an undesirable version of Windows. EaseUS, a Chinese online software company specializing in data backup, data recovery and partition management, has now released System GoBack Free 1.0, a free Windows rollback alternative for Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 users who want to downgrade from Windows 10.Even if Microsoft is going to deliver a final version of Windows 10 next week, it’s almost a given that there will be plenty of unexpected glitches and crashes, and you can never know how serious they can be. So rolling back to your previous Windows versi…

Google: Data Show Users Hate App-Promotion Interstitials

Very often smartphone users click on a link to a mobile web page and are confronted by a interstitial promotion asking them to download the publisher’s app. Users generally hate these takeovers and they do almost nothing for the brand or publisher — except alienate users.Google has determined empirically that interstitials don’t work and that the same call to action is more effectively presented as a mobile banner at the top of the page — provided they don’t take up too much space and are easily dismissed. In a case study on app download interstitials, Google found in its own promotion of the Google+ app (a comScore top 15 app) that 69 percent of users who encountered the interstitial abandoned the visit entirely. In other words, they didn’t go to Google Play to get the app or continue on to the mobile site to interact with the intended content.Google said that 9 percent of visitors pressed the “get app” button. However only a subset of those users probably took action. Google doesn’t …

Twitter’s Event Targeting Helps Marketers Zero In On Live Audiences

Twitter, long the leading social network for real-time marketing, is pushing its advantage. Today the company introduced event targeting, a new advertising feature to help brands and businesses reach people engaged with live events on the network.Up to now, marketers interested in going after Twitter audiences during major events like the Super Bowl, Grammys, the FIFA World Cup or Wimbledon were limited to mostly manual efforts and guesswork about what hashtags, keywords and accounts to target. With event targeting, Twitter said, marketers now have a tool to simplify, inform and automate that process. The new feature has three basic elements:A calendar that highlights major global events and events related to sports, holidays, festivals, television, music and politics in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Brazil and Japan. Users can filter by type of event, location and date.Event insights, which provide historical data about how events have performed on Twitter, including how …

WhatsApp Will Finally let you Mark Messages as Unread

A long-overdue feature, the option to mark message as unread on WhatsApp is finally here. It was first discovered by the folks over at AndroidPolice, and for the time being it seems to be heading to Android users. The most recent version isn’t currently on the Google Play Store nor on other mobile stores, but it seems that you can get it by downloading straight from the company’s website. Just make sure that you have changed the settings in your Android device to allow you to install apps that don’t come form the Play Store. Also, rest assured, the app won’t overwrite or remove all of your history, it will just add the new features. I’ve tried the new features on my Android smartphone, but you could also check if you can get them on your iPhone, BlackBerry or Windows Phone. So, in order to mark conversations as unread, you need to tap and hold on any conversation pane and you’ll spot the new feature at the bottom of the menu. As you can see from my screenshot, the ‘mark as unread’ opti…

The Multi-Goal Magic Of Split Testing Software

Imagine a page with 158 different links on it. This page is critical to your sales funnel, but with so many links, there are thousands of paths your visitors could find. Some links go to new pages. Some go to other parts of the page. Some open overlays. What’s an optimizer to do?This is a daunting, if not impossible, task to instrument using traditional analytics tools like Google Analytics and Adobe Analytics. Click-tracking “heatmap” tools will tell you where visitors are clicking, but they have limited abilities to segment traffic, and they don’t handle overlays or fly-out menus well. The solution? Consider using a split testing tool.By setting click goals during our split tests, we were able to get a very clear picture of where visitors were clicking on this complex page. We were able to discern the language that activated visitors’ left mouse button and moved them closer to converting. These insights shaped our choice of language to test and guided us to those pages most likely to …

Localytics Boosts Mobile App Analytics With Twitter Parnership

Localytics, the Boston-based mobile app analytics and engagement firm, announced today that it has joined Twitter’s Official Partner Program and will now be able to offer customers a more complete look at how ads are performing on the social communications network.Localytics’ software is targeted at major B2C brands, including ESPN, Fox, and the New York Times, and is used as a marketing and analytics tool in more than 37,000 apps on more than 2.7 billion devices. Localytics says it’s the first “app lifecycle engagement platform” in the Twitter program, which will enable it to offer deeper data about which marketing messages trigger conversion events. Those events can be downloads of apps or other activities such as return visits or purchases within the app. And since Localytics data shows that 25% of users abandon apps after one visit, it’s crucial for app publishers to make sure they are targeting people who are most likely to stick around. Now Localytics can better tie that informat…

Study: In-app Ad Fraud Could Near $1 Billion Globally In 2015

Ad fraud has come to mobile apps in a big way, according to a new study on “mobile device hijacking” by ad fraud detection firm Forensiq.Forensiq says its fraud detection platform identified over 5,000 mobile applications committing ad fraud while monitoring for irregular impression traffic patterns on various RTB ad exchanges. “Fraudulent apps were observed generating traffic through most major ad exchanges and networks. These apps would establish on average 1100 connections per minute and communicate with 320 ad networks, ad servers, exchanges and data providers in the course of an hour.”Over a ten day period, the company says it observed more than 12 million unique devices with “infected” apps, affecting about 1 percent of mobile devices it observed in the US and 2 to 3 percent in Europe and Asia. Based on the activity it observed, Forensiq estimates an annual loss to advertisers of over $857 million globally based on CPMs of $1.00 on Android and Windows Mobile and $1.25 on iOS pla…

Hungry, Hungry Ad Tech: Innovation Through Acquisition

Photo by Flickr user David Goehring Ever since the days of Rockefeller and Carnegie, the idea of a large company acquiring a smaller one has carried with it the impression that a big fish is eating a little fish, absorbing it for its nutrients (customers, talent, geography, etc.).This image is made worse when certain large companies acquire countless smaller businesses in a short period of time. To many, this indicates that the ocean of enterprise, once teeming with a diverse types and sizes of fish, now only has a few, very large sharks.Over the past few years, the ad tech industry has seen just such a change. Tech giants such as Facebook (LiveRail) and Google (Toro, Adometry, Spider.io) have been buying up smaller companies just as they start to make headlines. It’s tempting to see this as a giant game of “Hungry, Hungry Hippos,” with large companies vying to eat up all the smaller players in order to accumulate innovative technology (and the teams that built it). The details, however…

Just when the 4G LTE networks have started gaining some traction in the Indian market, Microsoft has decided to let users enjoy the same by pushing out a firmware update which will enable 4G LTE network on select Lumia devices. The new firmware update will enable FDD-LTE (1800MHz) on the following models: Lumia 1520, Lumia 1320, Lumia 930, Lumia 925, Lumia 920, Lumia 830 and the Lumia 625. To update the device go to Settings>Phone Update > Check for Update to manually. Post the update just head on to Settings>Mobile + SIM, in order to enable the 4G feature. That being said the downside is the fact that the phones can currently support FD…

Guest post by Sayan Sarkar.Make in India’ initiative is Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s ambitious plan to bring in industries and help them manufacture their products within the country itself. Barely a year since the launch of the initiative, a number of mobile handset manufacturers have boarded the ship, while many are mulling to do so in the future. In this article, we aim to talk about the advantages for manufacturing devices in India and would also touch upon the companies which have already joined the initiative. Why ‘Make in India’ is beneficial for OEMs?In the last financial budget, the Finance Minister of India, Mr. Arun Jaitley made many changes to the country’s industrial policies to make India an ambient place for manufacturers.
