New $399 Dell Chromebook 13 Marks Google’s Chrome OS Take on the Enterprise Market

A few years back, not too many would have predicted the success of Google’s Chrome OS initative, which has grown as much as to have displaced iPads as the most popular new devices shipping to U.S. schools. So yeah, everybody should be taking the Chromebooks serious now, as consumers are increasingly interested in versatile and productive device that they can take with them anywhere they go.Sure, a Chrome OS laptop isn’t as productive as, say, a Windows-powered one, but there are so many of us who work online and use online tools, and that’s just a part of the audience that Google is targeting. The most important customers, however, seem to be institutions. So after it has become a popular product in the education market, Google is now eyeing business users. That’s why the search giant has revamped Chrome OS with a couple of new features, such as centralized management features, support for VPNs, virtualization and others. Google has been working with Cisco, Juniper, and Dell to integra…

Earlier this year, Marketing Land discovered less than a third of Intebrand’s top 100 global brands had CMOs with active Twitter accounts.Ranked No. 53 on Intebrand’s list of top 100 global brands, AXA was one of the few brands with a socially-active CMO. In fact, Frédéric Tardy is one of the top ten most active global brand CMOs on Twitter.“I use Twitter and LinkedIn everyday to promote our brand,” says Tardy, “We also use social media for recruiting and social selling purposes.”AXA’s social engagement is a global effort, with the brand also taking advantage of international platforms like Asia’s Wechat.“Our last road safety campaign to protect kids was a huge success in China.”As CMO, Tardy drives the AXA Group intitiatives, from digital transformation and partnerships, to brand, media, strategic marketing and customer segmentation efforts. Lenovo’s ZUK Could be Working on a Smartphone with a Transparent Screen

Phones these days are becoming thinner and thinner, and some of them have their bezels seriously slimmed down, as well. All this is done in order to make the owner have an immersive experience. But what about a smartphone with a transparent screen, how awesome would that be?This concept seems to be on the mind of the guys from ZUK, yes, that Lenovo-backed company which has released earlier this week their first smartphone (and a quite impressive one for its price). Normally, you’d expect this kind of news to be coming from known names, such as LG Display or others, but it seems that ZUK has the technology to make at least a prototype. The unit was actually showcased at the end of the launch event for the ZUK Z1, and, as you can see from the images, the screen does seem to have a pretty advanced percentage of transparency. The prototype on display was allegedly able to display images, make phone calls, play music and perform other specific smartphone features. While this is definitely a…

Ink Space App Lets you Sketch Doodles in 3D with your Android Phone

Ink Space is a new Android app developed by Zach Lieberman and is also part of the AndroidExperiments.com initiative, where Google is showcasing a bunch of really cool Android apps. Described as a small experimental drawing tool, the app lets you easily sketch some doodles in 3D.It does so by using the accelerometer on your android device to move the drawings you make in 3D. The video at the end of the article pretty much shows how the app looks like. I’ve been playing with it for the past 30 minutes and must say that it has managed to keep me glued to the screen.Ink Space is incredibly easy to use, and the fact that your silly drawings instantly gain a 3D view is a pretty interesting concept. It just makes you to keep drawing various shapes, and see how they rotate. Here’s what the developer says about his app:As an artist I’m experimenting with new types of drawing tools, and what does drawing in the 21st century look like ? — ink space is research in that realm. If have a drawing b…

WhatsApp’s Google Drive Backup Feature Disappears from the Latest Version, Here’s How to Get it Back

WhatsApp has been doing a flip flop from quite some time when it comes to Google Drive backup option. It was introduced in one of the earlier versions and was silently withdrawn in the version 2.12.233 (at least for a few). WhatsApp kept on dilly dallying until it once again launched the feature in  version 2.12.214 starting this month. We thought the feature has finally been confirmed after few beta revisions and it seemed that WhatsApp will be sticking to the Google Drive backup feature for good. Much to our dismay the latest version of the app 2.12.233 had removed Google Drive backup feature. The Google Drive option is no more accessible when we try to backup the chats whereas the  previous versions of the application allowed users to backup not only their conversations but also the image and other media (except for video.)The first backup would usually be large and post that it would increment marginally depending on the new in app data that is collected in between the backups. The…

Marketing Teams Will Soon Include “Engagement Scientists”

There’s a new kind of job that’s emerging, blending the skillsets of a marketing expert with that of a data scientist. The “engagement scientist” is seen as an evolution of the data scientist’s role. We can — and should — see engagement science pick up steam within the next 12 months. So what exactly is engagement science?Engagement science enables seamless integration between data and marketing strategies. It provides a platform for marketers and data scientists to interact with customers in a meaningful way. Engagement scientists create a better, stronger understanding of how customers interact with their brands, then implement strategic decisions based on analysis. It converts a reactive approach into a proactive one.Sound familiar?A growth hacker may practice engagement science, but by no means should growth hacking be equated with engagement science. Yes, growth hackers and engagement scientists both bridge marketing, product and engineering teams. However, the primary differentiator…

This Is Your First-Party Data On Steroids

In this era of expansion of data-driven marketing, brands and their agencies have been eager to put their first-party data to work — to truly take advantage of this asset they’ve had at their fingertips. This includes customer relationship management (CRM) data, website, owned social media assets and other data sets. With all players excited by the possibilities, the ad solution side, the demand-side platform (DSP), the data management platform (DMP) and others have been fielding questions on how best to integrate data sets and what kinds of opportunities this kind of integration affords. In addition, cross-channel marketing has further raised the bar on this request — as we aim to target, reach and engage our audience at the right time on the right device with the right message. One of the most powerful opportunities that exists today to make all that a reality is to layer in performance-enhancing second- and third-party intent data and device graph tech with an advertiser’s first-party…

How To Use Video To Enhance Your Email Marketing Campaigns

Love it or hate it, email is at the heart of many business relationships, and it is one of the main tools marketers use to develop and nurture relationships with prospective customers. Unfortunately, our inboxes are inundated with messages. It’s hard enough to get a response from someone expecting your email, let alone from someone who knows you’re trying to sell them something. Our inboxes aren’t that different from our social media feeds in that respect. They’re full of updates we don’t care about (and sometimes even from people we don’t care about). Think about what it takes to stand out in someone’s Facebook feed when you’re competing with cute babies and puppies. That’s a challenge social media marketers are all too keenly aware of.Videos are the next best thing to being there in person. You can inform and entertain while being respectful of your audience’s time. They’ll certainly stand out in an inbox full of text and bad formatting. But Facebook and Twitter have learned in the la…

Dissecting the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+

Samsung released the latest Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ yesterday and it sure does come with some drool-worthy features, but with a catch. Before diving in straight to the features, we need to understand what Note series means for Samsung. Starting from the first Note, the phablet has always appealed to a niche of consumers and the S-Pen has been the one of the most sought after feature.Apple’s iPhone was never deemed to be a threat to the Note series until the Cupertino giant decided to opt for a large display variant and came up with the iPhone 6 Plus. The Korean manufacturer has been sparing lots of efforts on the design front and as a result, we have almost forgotten how clunky and cheap many Samsung devices used to feel before. The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge helped Samsung benchmark themselves and ever since the evolved design philosophy has helped them produce elegant looking classy phones.Samsung has taken a liking to the wraparound display from the Galaxy S6 Ed…

The Best Tools for Saving Web Pages, Forever

Web pages change or may even disappear with time. Thus if you would like to preserve a web page forever, you should either need to download that page to your computer (and put it on Dropbox) or you could use a web archiving service that will safely store a copy of that page on their own servers, permanently. There are quite a few ways to save web pages permanently and your choice of the tool will depend on the kind of web content that you are trying to archive.Archive Web Pages, PermanentlyIf you are essentially interested in the saving text-only content, like news articles, Pocket and Instapaper are recommended choices. OnePlus 2 Review: Exceptional? Yes. Excellent? Yes. Flagship Killer? Well…

Taglines are dangerous things. Yes, they can generate a fair bit of buzz. Stoke up passions. And well, sound very snazzy indeed. But on the flip side, they can also ramp up expectations. And that, to an extent is what we feel has happened with arguably one of the most awaited Android devices of the year, the OnePlus 2.The very fact that the OnePlus 2 was so eagerly anticipated bears testimony to the success of its predecessor, the OnePlus One, which stunned the world by combining innovative design (the sandstone back cover became a thing to boast about) with cutting edge hardware at a remarkably affordable price. The OnePlus 2 was therefore expected to follow in its footsteps. And the company backed it up with the same tagline as the OnePlus One – “Flagship Killer.” The OnePlus One (OPO) had delivered on its promise to a large extent (some bugs notwithstanding), coming with hardware comparable with the best most brands could offer at a price that was in many cases, half of what better…
