Hilarious! Sony Tries to Pass Off Xperia Z5 Compact as Z5 Premium in an Official Video

Sony has been trying hard (too hard at times, maybe) to get back into the Android smartphone game these days, and probably had the best chance when they announced the Xperia Z5 Premium with an obnoxious 4K UHD display on a 5.5-inch screen. Whether you want something like that or not can be left for another post, but what’s interesting is that Sony is either super confused or thinks people don’t care enough to see the difference between an Xperia Z5 Premium and an Xperia Z5 Compact.Watch the video belowDid you notice that the phone she’s holding is unusually small and unbelievably thick for a premium flagship smartphone which will set you back by almost £699 (freaking US $1062)? Well, that’s because it’s the tiny and bulky Sony Xperia Z5 Compact being passed off as the Z5 Premium on Sony’s official YouTube channel!

4 Components Of The Best Social Media Campaigns

As social media continues to grow as a proven marketing strategy, the marketing industry has seen an increase in clever and effective social media campaigns. Many publishers and organizations have been compiling and publicly recognizing their favorites, and the top picks vary greatly in size, method and style. However, when you break down the details of various top-rated social media campaigns, you see that they often share some common elements. Our most recent social media campaign, #JustSaidYes, taught us a number of important lessons about building a great social media campaign. Instead of running a broad campaign for all potential WeddingWire (my employer) users, we were able to identify a subset of our target audience and create a campaign that capitalized on existing social behavior on their favorite network: Instagram. But for many businesses, a successful social media campaign may not be as easy to identify, plan or execute. If your business is considering a social media campaign,…

Google Chrome Will Stop Hogging Your System Resources with the Latest Update

One of the reasons why Chrome is such a popular browser is its fast loading speed. However, the downside is that it eats up a lot of resources to be able to offer that. This becomes an even bigger problem when you have dozens of tabs, just like myself. And if you’re on a laptop and relying on its battery only, then this can become quite annoying.
Google is well aware of these issues and it seems it already has a fix that’s coming in the most recent Chrome 45 version. The latest Chrome release focuses on making the browser faster and more efficient. Google has come up with a number of improvements in this direction. From now on, when you restart Chrome and it restores your tabs, the browser will now first open those tabs you most recently looked at, thus saving you some time. Also when it comes to restoring tabs, Chrome will be able to detect if your machine is running low on resources, and if does, it will stop restoring tabs and will you to do it when you want. I know I almost always h…

ZTE Axon Elite is a $470 Phone that can be Unlocked by Fingerprints, Eyes and Voice

Tapping or swiping on your screen to unlock is already becoming passe, blame the series of new smartphones coming with fingerprint scanners. ZTE Axon Elite is a phone whose USP revolves around the number of ways it can be unlocked. The Axon Elite can not only be unlocked with fingerprints, but also via voice and eyes!ZTE announced this phone at the ongoing IFA 2015, and the company has also unveiled a more premium Axon Pro version which is designed in U.S and will be sold in the U.S market. The Axon Pro is being billed as a premium offering which is punchy enough to take on other premium flagships at a seemingly affordable price point of $450.The Axon Elite comes with a fingerprint sensor at the back just below the camera unit. Additionally, the phone can also be unlocked via a scan of your eyes, somewhat similar to the Intel’s Realsense. The methods of unlocking doesn’t just stop here (sigh!) as we also have a voice actuated unlock feature which will require the user to tell the code…

Capitalizing On The Digital Trail To The Offline Purchase

As marketers, we hear it all the time: We need to understand the consumer journey. It’s impossible for legacy marketing metrics to keep up with the modern path-to-purchase, where consumers are exposed to several touch points through multiple devices and exhibit behaviors often inconsistent by category, or even by purchase history.Affiliate marketing programsoffer ways to identify and analyze consumer behaviors that lead to purchases — something that should be top-of-mind for all retailers, particularly as we draw closer to the most crucial shopping time of the year. What’s fascinating is how important digital influences are to driving in-store sales. A recent report by Deloitte Digital revealed just how much online activities contribute to offline sales — get ready to have your mind blown:Digital interactions are expected to influence 64 cents of every dollar spent in retail stores by the end of 2015, or $2.2 trillion.Consumers who use digital while they shop in-store convert at a 20 p…

A Powerful New Tool In The Local Business Toolbox: Content Marketing Is Going Native

Yes, content marketing is definitely a buzzword. But all it really means is that custom content — that kind of tailored information that tells the real story of a local business — is what consumers really want. In fact, 78 percent of chief marketing officers see custom content as the future of marketing, according to the latest statistics from Demand Metric. And content marketing is not just for the big brands, either. Ninety percent of all organizations use content in marketing efforts, and 80 percent say that custom content should be the central focus of those marketing efforts, Demand Metric reports. Put it another way: Businesses large and small think custom content makes the world go ‘round.Just to give you an idea of how many pieces of custom content are required by business clients these days, Search Influence (the online marketing company I co-founded with my wife, Angie Scott), produced 19,743 pieces of custom content in just one year on behalf of our clients, many of them loc…

Wacom’s Bamboo Spark Lets you Draw on Paper and Save Digitally

The digital era has brought about a slew of changes in how we communicate and express our ideas. Jotting down things and expressing our ideas with a pen and paper is still something that many of us use on a day to day basis. In fact, this was the very reason that the S-Pen in Samsung Galaxy Note series had become such a sought after feature. Wacom is trying hard to bridge the digital gap between actually drawing something on a paper versus using a Stylus enabled device to draw/write it digitally.I had used the Stylus on one of my older Galaxy Note and in spite of being able to spruce up my productivity, it sort of failed to offer the old school charm the pen and a paper offers. At the first glance the Bamboo Spark looks more like a traditional diary enclosed in a case with a holster for pen, but it brings a whole world of difference when it comes to functionality. The Bamboo Spark brings in the authentic pen and paper experience and blends it digitally. The product is shaped similar to…

Alcatel’s New Denim clad Pop Star Smartphone Amps up Your Style Quotient

Phones have been coming in various avatars. From the glossy plastic bodies to the elegant metal finish, we have seen it all. Metal finish is something we have been seeing on premium phones and this trend has also trickled into the mid range devices in the recent past. Apart from Metal finish, OnePlus One came with a roughed up Sandstone finish, Motorola offered a Bamboo finished back panel in its Moto Maker program and LG offered leather back on its G4.The idea of creating something different and unique seems to have driven Alcatel to come up with a smartphone that is clad in a completely different material as opposed to the current crop of smartphones and this makes the Alcatel Pop Star, the first phone to come with a swappable denim back cover. The phone has a punk feel to it and the stitched denim does make it stand out of the crowd. Pop Star blends very well with your denims and Alcatel also lets you pick up from a handful of backpanels including the bare basic plastic black to the…

Comscore: Smartphone Penetration Now Above 77 Percent In US

The July smartphone numbers are out this afternoon from comScore. According to the measurement firm smartphone penetration has reached 77 percent in the US market. While there are some modest shifts in share (i.e., Android slightly down) the relative positions of Apple, Google and Microsoft’s operating systems are mostly unchanged from last month.Below are tables showing (on the left) operating system share and (on the right) the top 15 smartphone apps by audience reach. This list has been fairly stable over time.Compared with last month the noteworthy development is that Facebook Messenger has moved up from position three and displaced YouTube as the second most popular app to Facebook’s perennial number one. Apple Music has replaced iTunes Radio (mostly a renaming).Earlier this week App Annie released its list of the “most downloaded” and “top grossing” iOS apps of all time. It’s interesting to compare the two lists, which use different lenses to rank apps. Nonetheless there’s a fai…
