Why You Need To Make Video Part Of Your Marketing Automation Strategy

I’m going to start off with a bold assumption: You’ve stood in front of another person and had a conversation at some point in your life, possibly even in the last few hours. When we talk to other people, we watch their body language — how they hold their arms, where their eyes focus, how they use their hands — to look for indications of how interested they are in the conversation.Believe it or not, the people you talk to watch you for the same things! When it comes to B2B sales and marketing, more often than not, our conversations don’t happen face-to-face. That means gathering those non-verbal cues can be really difficult. We all could stand to know more about our customers and prospects. After all, how can you possibly sell to someone if you don’t know anything about them?Fortunately, there are ways to read our customers’ and prospects’ digital body language, and we can use marketing automation platforms to gauge insights and interest. Video is one of the most powerful ways to measur…

Google Adds Ad Injector Filter In DoubleClick Bid Manager

To combat ad injectors, Google has added a filter on DoubleClick Bid Manager to automatically keep advertisers from buying injected ad inventory across the exchanges it has access to.Google says it has already received nearly 300,000 complaints in 2015 from Chrome users about ad injectors.Ad injector programs can take over legitimate ad placements or put ads in places that not designed for ads at all. Google provided the example below showing a scam ad injected on the New York Times site, complete with a pop-up. The programs often end up on users’ machines through malicious ads or as part of software bundles.Google says the filter in DoubleClick Bid Manager was put into place a few months ago and has blacklisted 1.4 percent of the inventory on exchanges that DoubleClick Bid Manager has access to. It’s found some exchanges have far greater percentage of injected ads getting filtered than others. The filter prevents DoubleClick systems from bidding on the blacklisted inventory.Earlier t…

Twitter Is Showing Analytics Highlights In The Notification Tab Of Verified Users

Twitter’s notifications tab on the web is displaying analytic highlights for some verified users. At the top of the tab, only on the Twitter’s desktop version, users are seeing up to three high-activity highlights —
“Popular Tweet,” “Noteworthy Mention,” and “Top Follow.” Each time a user refreshes the page, a new set of highlights are displayed. Here’s how it looked this morning on my colleague Danny Sullivan’s account:A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the test, spotted first by BuzzFeed News, emailing this statement: “We’re experimenting with highlighting notable Tweets and activity in some verified users’ notifications timelines. These are Tweets and activity they might otherwise miss due to the large volume of notifications these users tend to receive on a daily basis.”The information for the highlighted activity is available anytime from Twitter’s analytics dashboard, which it revamped in March, but this could be a handy addition for people managing popular accounts.

The Internet is full of opportunities to make money, and blogging is one of the smartest and most ethical ways available. One misconception about blogging is that you need to work day and night to make money. That’s certainly true if what you’re trying to do is create a name and/or build a brand, etc.  But if your goal is simply to earn money within a short period of time but with long-term gains in mind, then there are many shortcuts available to you.  Let’s take a look at one such shortcut, the micro-niche blog.In this guide I will give you a detailed example of a micro-niche blog that I created which is currently making $174 /month from AdSense, and an average of $100 /month through affiliate marketing with just a few hours of work. This is a blueprint for creating a micro-niche blog, and you can use it for any topic or niche that you like. Why CRM, Marketing Automation and Tag Management Are Foundations Of The Marketing Technology Stack

Just as you can’t build a solid, long-lasting edifice on a foundation of mucky soil, the foundation of the marketing technology stack is critical to its efficacy and long-term benefit to the organization. You need to build on bedrock, and for martech, that means CRM (customer relationship management), marketing automation and tag management.“The stack” at any given company was likely conceived by the chief marketing officer (CMO) and chief technology officer (CTO), but in many businesses — from startups to enterprises — it now stands alone in a marketing technology department. And given recent rapid changes in marketing technology, it may have been built on shaky ground (by today’s standards). That’s where you come in.Ideally, the various tools in your stack take your data and turn it into customized marketing programs that are 1) automated and 2) measurable. Ultimately, this means happier customers because they’re getting exactly what they want at exactly the right time.Plus, the CEO …

iPhone 6S Confirmed to Have a Smaller Battery than iPhone 6 Despite Being Heavier

Yesterday Apple has unveiled this year’s most awaited smartphones – the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. As it’s usually the case with ‘S’ iPhones, these feature incremental updates, and this year’s models are getting 3D Touch, a new color option, a better processor, better build quality and improved camera, among others. But there’s one thing that doesn’t seem to be seriously improving and it’s one that many have been complaining about – the battery life. Apple has inadvertently revealed in one of its promotional videos the battery capacity of the iPhone 6S –  1715 mAh.The battery in the current iPhone 6 is an 1810 mAh unit, which means the new battery in the iPhone 6S is smaller by around 5 percent. Most likely, Apple had to shrink the battery in order to make space for new features like the 3D Touch screen and the Taptic Engine.Furthermore, these new technologies along with support for 4K videos and the always-on M9 co-processor could take a toll on the battery life. But according …

CMOs: Are You Paying Attention To Attention?

Measuring campaign performance against frequency of page views and impressions has long been the standard success (and value) metric for brands and advertisers. It’s a simple linear view that links a form of consumer engagement to ROI.Yet today’s modern marketers realize that measuring the success of a campaign is less about if people visit and more about how long they visit. It isn’t about measuring clicks. More importantly, it is about measuring engagement — the time people spend with digital experiences and the ways they interact with them.Attention MetricsWhat are attention metrics? Put simply, attention metrics represent recent efforts by marketers to find a more meaningful way to gauge how long a brand is holding a consumer’s attention and the quality of that engagement. They expand the focus from just the quantity of visits or clicks to the quality of those engagements and the depth to which content is consumed.Online advertisers and marketers, in a quest to better quantify the v…

Did Steve Jobs Really Hate the Stylus?

If there was a moment in yesterday’s Apple event that grabbed the imagination of social networks around the world, it was the launch of the Apple Pencil, a stylus for the iPad Pro. For most of the Apple faithful, this is was tantamount to spitting on the grave of Apple founder Steve Jobs who had made fun of the stylus in the now-legendary presentation of the first iPhone “Who needs a stylus?” he had asked jeeringly. He also very famously would add in 2010 – “if you see a stylus, they blew it.” So the massive outrage that the Apple Pencil sparked off was hardly surprising. My own reaction was summed up by a tweet:“Apple Pencil. That rolling sound? That’s Steve in his grave.”The fact, however, is that Jobs’ animosity to the stylus is perhaps being taken a tad out of context by so many of us. Let’s go back if you will to 2007 when Jobs made the famous “Yuck! No one wants a stylus!” statement. That was the time when the number of touchscreen phones that you could use without a stylus was, we…

The Human Side Of Data: The Opportunities For Marketers

In a time when marketers want more audience segmentation and data is king, it can be easy to forget that our goal is to reach people — real people like me, who have their own shopping behaviors, interests and distinct preferences.Over the past few years, every click, like, follow, search and purchase has been turning people into units to be targeted, tracked and acquired. In fact, some may argue that we’ve become so close to data and algorithms that we have stripped our information of the real people who give it meaning. There’s an opportunity to change the perception of digital marketing from disruptive or intrusive into useful and relevant. It starts by delivering information that resonates with people in a purposeful and timely manner, and it means eliminating methods of pushing information out to the masses.Reach More People, More PersonallyWhen real-time automated buying was first introduced to us, we were sold on the idea of right person, right place, right time. This quickly bec…

Alleged Meizu Go Pro Camera Picture Leaked

Meizu had everyone guessing when it sent out an invite which said “Meizu Go Pro”, and the hint made some people guess that Meizu would be launching a new smartphone, which considering the “Pro” tag might come loaded to brim with features and high end hardware.Recent Tweet by Nikos Komis begs to differ and instead shows off the Meizu Go Pro action camera in full glory. This new leak falls in line with the invite, thus hinting at a Go Pro like action camera launch at Meizu’s upcoming event. The person who tweeted the leaked photo didn’t divulge any other information about the action camera, thus at this juncture the details are still scarce. The most intriguing part of this new action camera is the inclusion of “Go Pro” in the name, the only explanation seems to be that GoPro has joined hands with Meizu for the device in question, else it wouldn’t be wise for Meizu to use the name directly.

Alternatively, it might be a well conceived branding strategy by Meizu, to borrow the brand name in…

Internet-wide Retargeting POWERED by Social Psychographics

Once marketers have mastered truly deep psychographic social targeting, it’s time to integrate social PPC into the larger marketing picture by capturing your precise audiences into tightly filtered retargeting lists to pull them deeper into the conversion funnel. In this edition of Psychographic Targeting Hot House, aimClear Social Account Manager Gretchen Gautreaux illustrates precisely how to pull targeted social users through to Internet-wide retargeting and (SCORE!) conversion.Step 1: Tight Social Targeting
Intentional psychographic targeting is the basis for success with this marketing model. Psychographics is knowing and understanding the entire identity of a user. This includes everything from demographics like age, gender and location to more personal attributes like job titles, weekend recreation and vacation preferences. When you start thinking like your target market, you have a better chance of capturing them at the top of the funnel. Psychographic targeting can be set up t…

Gilt Shows How Apps And Online Shopping Are Coming To Apple TV

The new Apple TV is all about apps (more on that below), with the new Apple TV App Store, and that includes apps that will let us shop from our living rooms. Sure, we can do this already on our laptops, tablets and phones, but on the TV couch-surfing consumerism can be a social affair. At Wednesday’s Apple event, Gilt Groupe’s CEO, Michelle Peluso, showed off the new Gilt app designed specifically for Apple TV. The scenario she laid out was family outfit shopping for an upcoming wedding.Users can scroll — or swipe with the new glass touch surface remote (it’s not clear if it also works with voice commands from the new Siri integration in the remote) — through the categories of clothing and then view product details on specific items.Buy now buttons appear on both the product carousel views and individual product pages. With the press of the remote, shoppers can click to buy the items right from the app. How the payment piece works exactly isn’t quite clear, but my guess is it’s just lik…

With 3D Touch, Apple Faces its Biggest Interface Challenge Yet

A member of the Lenovo ThinkPad once told me that with every great innovation comes a new headache: that of convincing the consumer that it actually was worth trying out. In this case, the gentlemam was referring to the iconic red trackball on the ThinkPad, which many customers he claimed found odd to use and weirdly placed on their keyboards.”They kept saying the normal keyboard direction keys or a mouse was good enough,” he said, with a weary shrug. With the introduction of 3D touch (or Force Touch, as some term it) on its new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, Apple finds itself in a similar position. For the first time since the iPhone was launched way back in 2007, the company has dared to fundamentally alter the way in which you interact with the device. In fact, this would be the first time that a new pair of iPhone would have a surface that is radically different from its predecessors. And therein lies the big challenge that Apple faces – one of interface. Interestingly, the iPhone became a…
