Up A Half Million In Six Months, Facebook Says It Now Has 2.5 Million Advertisers

In June of 2013 Facebook formally announced that it had 1 million advertisers. Then in February this year, the company announced 2 million advertisers. And last night it said it now had 2.5 million.Advertiser growth is clearly accelerating. It would be interesting to know how many advertisers Google currently has. Financial analysts have estimated that Google has approximately 4 million advertisers today.A substantial though undisclosed percentage of Facebook’s advertisers are small businesses. The company previously said it has 40 million active small business pages globally. It’s trying to covert more of those active Page owners into advertisers. As part of the 2.5 million announcement, Facebook is introducing new products and tools directed at mobile marketers. The company reported in the second quarter that mobile advertising accounted for 76 percent of total ad revenues.Facebook has become the primary ad platform rival to Google, especially in mobile.

5 Best iPhone and iPad Apps : September Week 4

iPhone’s Multi-Touch display and that smooth scrolling were instrumental in me falling head over heels in love with technology. I was using a plucky Samsung Star at the time with resistive touch display and the iPhone’s screen was just so much better to use. Of course, we take it for granted now. This is why I’m really looking forward to trying out 3D Touch and maybe owning the 6s. This is a whole new interaction model for Apple and I’m all in. If you ask me, their track record is pretty solid. And yes, the 2 GB RAM is great and so is the new camera. But dat Peek and Pop tho.Well, I don’t live in the US so I have at least a month or two to save up for the 6s. In the meantime, I’ll keep writing about the hot new apps.1. SlashThird party keyboards for iOS 8 never really caught on. But that hasn’t stopped developers from experimenting with keyboard apps. Add Slash to that list. It’s a productivity based third party keyboard. It helps you search and insert links and rich media right from th…

Choosing The Right Call To Action: What Do We Need To Ask Of Our Subscribers?

It’s no secret that personal inboxes can fill up extremely quickly on an average day. Friends, colleagues and marketers are all battling to share valuable real estate within your inbox. Large-volume senders need to recognize this when deciding what to ask of their recipients when they send them a message.Any calls to action (CTAs) within a sender’s content ask something from the reader. It’s best to make sure that these CTAs are clear and limited in number to avoid overwhelming your readers. When you sit down to map out and design your email campaign, there are several notable things to keep in mind about calls to action:Be AccurateFirst, when looking to direct a reader of your email to take an action, one word to avoid these days is “click.” There is considerable growth in the number of people who use smartphones and tablets to read and interact with email. And, of course, we “touch” these screens; we don’t “click” them. Sometimes senders forget to stop and think about how their recipi…

The Many Faces Of Programmatic Ad Fraud

The topic of advertising fraud in the programmatic sector is a jugular issue concerning marketers today. The openness that allows advertisers and publishers of any size to participate in the programmatic ecosystem also lets bad actors participate and pollute the quality of the sector.Fraud is the first thing that a marketer must address when looking at the overall quality of their ad campaigns. It is the fundamental first step before trying to optimize for viewability or brand safety, because it essentially poisons everything else if left unchecked. With respect to sizing the impact of ad fraud, this excerpt from AdExchanger provides a guesstimate:The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) and ad fraud solutions provider White Ops this month collaborated on a 60-day study looking at the severity of bots. The study tracked 181 campaigns among 36 ANA members (including Walmart, Johnson & Johnson and Kimberly-Clark) and determined that bots cause 23% of all video impressions, 11% o…

Sports Brands Jump Aboard Twitter Native Polling Test

Twitter is experimenting with polls that appear natively in desktop and mobile timelines and sports brands quickly jumped on the bandwagon. The feature, which started appearing last week, offers the ability to create basic polls with two answers. Currently, only select accounts have the ability to create them. But Twitter, which confirmed that it’s testing the new feature, clearly gave the keys to many sports related brands, as well as some media organizations, journalists and Twitter employees. The polls, embedded within the tweet, are visible on the desktop and mobile apps for 24 hours, with the time remaining to vote displayed. After the poll expires, the results — how many people voted and the percentage for each choice — are shown. It’s a slick-looking, low-barrier-to-engagement feature that should be popular with brands if it’s rolled out more broadly. Many sports and a few entertainment brands took advantage of their early access, tweeting polls that have generated strong engagemen…

Morgan Stanley: No, Apps Aren’t Winning The Mobile Browser Is

Last week comScore released its Mobile App Report, which we covered. The report contained many interesting findings but its big takeaway was this: consumers spend the majority of their mobile time with a very few heavily used apps. There was also an interesting and important mobile-web story in the report I neglected to tell, but which Morgan Stanley presented in a research note that plays up mobile browser usage — and Google by extension.Characterizing the browser as the ultimate mobile app, the firm cites its own research and comScore data for the proposition that “US mobile browser audiences are 2X larger than app audiences across the top 50 mobile web properties and have grown 1.2X faster over the past 3 years.”Mobile web vs. app traffic for top 50 mobile propertiesSource: Morgan Stanley rendering of comScore dataThe research note is designed to combat the perception that the mobile web is anemic or in decline (and by extension Google). It’s not. As the data show mobile browser usa…
