How Do Your Calls Rate?

You may already be measuring the success of your marketing programs by tracking offline phone leads and using the data as proof of ad performance. If so, you rock! But do you really know how many of those calls are viable leads? Were the callers interested in more information? Were they calling to set up an appointment? Did they leave a voice mail? And which of these actions constitutes a lead?Call scoring and the ability to easily evaluate the nature of an ad-driven phone call is priceless. After all, advertisers want the phone to ring — but for the right reasons. Therefore, it’s critical to understand the most basic elements of the calls being driven by your ad programs, not to mention what happens when the consumer and advertiser connect and how to properly evaluate that dialogue against a set of lead quality criteria. While lead scoring can be complicated, a few guidelines can help marketers quickly evaluate whether a call was a quality lead, resulting in a more accurate evaluation o…

15 Digital Marketing Myths CMOs Need To Stop Believing

If you’re in client services or sales, you’ve most definitely heard a few prevailing myths about one or another facet of digital marketing.Instead of using a phone call to review numbers or talk case studies, you go down the rabbit hole of gently explaining (often to CMOs who don’t have their ear to the ground on all things digital) why old assumptions need to be put to rest. With that in mind, we did a quick poll of our client services team to learn the myths they’ve needed to dispel (repeatedly) across channels and services. Add this to the questions I answer every day for (sometimes half-informed) prospects looking for a leg up in digital marketing, and we’ve got a pretty healthy list. Some of myths were once true but need to be revisited; some never really were true but became part of an easily-spouted narrative. In each case, we’ll take a look at the myth — and the corresponding truth. We’ll start with SEO myths, move to paid social, then look at myths surrounding creative, SEM, att…

Google Pixel C, iPad Pro Proof of Microsoft Being Right about the Surface? Not Quite…

Ever since Apple showed the iPad Pro with a keyboard and a stylus, the Internet has gone mad with statements and claims about how the company from Cupertino had in a manner of sorts conceded that Microsoft had been on the dot with its concept of the Surface – a tablet with a keyboard, and if need be, a stylus. And well, these gained additional momentum when Google showed off its Pixel C tablet with a keyboard, there was yet another session of “Microsoft was right with the Surface” online. We would beg to disagree. For, there is a fundamental difference between the iPad Pro and the Pixel C, and the Surface. While the Surface is basically a tablet that can turn into a fully functional notebook with the additional of a keyboard, the iPad Pro and the Pixel C are tablets for whom the keyboard is an add on, that adds some functionality to them but does not alter them fundamentally.Expressed mathematically:
Surface + Keyboard = Notebook
iPad Pro (or Pixel C) + Keyboard = Tablet with a keyboard…

Google’s Sridhar Ramaswamy: Ad Blocking Is A Rallying Cry For The Industry

Sridhar Ramaswamy,Google’s SVP of ads and commerce, spoke about ad blocking for the first time publicly during Advertising Week in New York City this week, saying it’s a rallying cry for the industry to coordinate and agree on advertising practice standards.Let’s start with the basics: All of us enjoy services like Google Maps, YouTube, Gmail and Facebook, which are available to all of humanity. And, it has opened up opportunities for so many people to be able to earn a livelihood by putting out content and having it supported by advertising. But here’s the thing, there are certain sites that are leading to the rise of ad blockers. The problem, Ramaswamy says, isn’t that users hate all ads, it’s that ad blockers are an all or nothing switch that penalizes quality ads, formats and placements along with the bad.The fix will come from industry collaboration and agreement on standards, said Ramaswamy:This is something we need to address together as an industry. We need standards of good ad…

The Problem With Google Analytics E-Commerce Tracking

Many companies don’t understand why visitor data and e-commerce sales are underreported in Google Analytics, and this tends to cause confusion. In his article, I’ll explain why what you see in Google Analytics doesn’t jibe with what you view in server logs and sales data.Google Analytics doesn’t have access to the actual sales data, only the data that is reported to it. While the Google Analytics data should not be used for financial reporting, it is a good indicator of sales and useful for data analysis. Here are some reasons why the data is not accurate.Missing Tracking Code On PagesIf the JavaScript code snippet for Google Analytics is missing, then the page can’t be tracked. While this is more common on sites that have individually-coded pages or run across multiple platforms, many sites that run on a single CMS (content management system) may still have this problem if they use different templates for different sections of a site — any of which may be missing the code.Luckily, a p…

So You Want To “Market On Reddit”

A memo hit your desk, an email dropped into your inbox, or the idea popped into your head: We need to market our company, product, etc. on Reddit. It seems so easy — post something cool about our company, get to the top of the dubbed “front page of the internet,” and bathe in a pool of karma, upvotes, site visitors and conversions. If only it were so easy! Reddit may just be one of the most difficult places on the internet to “market.” The crowd is quick to try to sniff out anything that could have been planted by a would-be marketer, so you have to go to great lengths to ensure you don’t get called out. If you’re caught, at best, you’ll get downvoted into oblivion — but at worst, you’ll get called out on a subreddit that is dedicated to outing those who’ve tried to market on Reddit: r/hailcorporate.Before you ever comment or create your first post, read through this quick-start guide to ensure you have a painless entry into the completely unique, difficult-to-navigate world of Reddit.1…

How To Execute Account-Based Marketing At Scale

It used to be that Account-Based Marketing (ABM) was an analog tactic and could really only be executed to a few key accounts. The idea of scaling up ABM strategies to reach 500 or (gasp!) 5,000 target accounts was enough to make marketers break out in a cold sweat.Fortunately for us, that isn’t the case anymore. There is a lot of great tech that’s emerged in the last few years, from IP Identification to predictive analytics, that gives us a lot more control over our campaigns when used with ABM.But the prospect of scaling up your ABM campaigns to deliver targeted, personalized ads to your best accounts can still be daunting.Marketers using ABM tactics these days have the technical ability to drive their campaigns to target hundreds or even thousands of accounts at once, without having to build massive marketing teams or huge catalogs of assets to get it done. But for ABM campaigns to reach their full potential at scale, you have to have a solid strategy behind them. Here are four step…

Make Love Not War Say Microsoft And Google As They End Patent Suits

Yesterday Google and Microsoft agreed to dismiss multiple patent lawsuits against one another. While the settlement terms were not disclosed, the agreement ends as many as 20 cases in the US and Europe that touch a range of technologies including mobile, video and gaming. Most provocatively Microsoft and Google say they will “collaborate on certain patent matters and anticipate working together in other areas in the future.” Bloomberg reported this cooperation will include developing a “royalty-free, video-compression technology to speed downloads, in an initiative that also involves Amazon.com Inc. and Netflix Inc. They will also lobby for specific rules on a unified patent system throughout Europe.”The formal press statement issued by the companies said:Microsoft and Google are pleased to announce an agreement on patent issues. As part of the agreement, the companies will dismiss all pending patent infringement litigation between them, including cases related to Motorola Mobility. Se…

Cash In! Charitable Donors On Facebook: Psychographic Targeting Hot House

A powerful factor affecting communities across the world is the work of non-profit organizations. The services they provide can be a vital source of support in their communities. However, most non-profit professionals will tell you that one of the largest struggles is getting their message in front of people willing to support services with actual money. In this week’s Psychographic Targeting Hot House, aimClear Social Account Manager Chris Davis shows how non-profits can combine location, income, and interest targeting to get their message in front of the right people and increase the donation base. For our use case this week, we’ll be looking at how the Human Development Center (HDC), a local mental health non-profit, can advertise to potential donors in the community for its annual fundraising gala.Local Community: First Area of FocusThe starting point for any community-based non-profit looking to advertise is to start with people who live in the area served by the non-profit. We’ve…

Samsung is Accused of Rigging its TV to be More Energy Efficient During the Lab Tests

The recent Volkswagen emission cheating debacle has raised severe concerns over the lengths manufacturers go to bypass the environmental norms and now independent lab tests have found out that a few Samsung TVs in Europe consume lesser energy in labs as compared to the real world use case, thus pointing fingers at how tightly contained the tests are.European Commission assured that it will promptly investigate any such allegations of cheating and will further tighten the noose to discourage the use of what is called “defeat devices”. For the uninitiated, any apparatus that unduly reduces the effectiveness of emissions control systems in a vehicle under certain conditions is called as “Defeat Device” and automakers have been on the radar for using the same since the early 70s.Samsung on the other hand has said that it would not be right to call its TVs “motion lighting” feature whose purpose is to alter the screen brightness according to the various real-world content. A Samsung spokes…

The RAM capacity however might be increased by an extra GB. The V10 is built out of stainless steel and silicon which imparts a premium and sleek look to the device. The most unique feature of V10 has to be the dual screen setup, the main 5.7-inch QHD display is complemented by a smaller screen which is always on and can do many things, somewhat similar to the Ga…

6 Exciting Things the New Google Chromecast Can Do

The Chromecast was long overdue for a successor and it did take some time for Google to come out with a worthy successor for the Chromecast. Now the device does come in a rather chic design and bright colors, but that is not what the Chromecast 2 is all about. The new Chromecast attempts to provide a more comprehensive solution by adding features which will help users discover content. Check out some of Chromecast nifty skills.New Chromecast ApplicationContent discovery had always been a perennial problem with the Chromecast, but the new Chromecast app seems to be designed just to address that.
