Here’s A Briefer About The Top Ad Blockers

You might be losing track of the various ad blockers, given that they’re springing up faster than mushrooms after a spring rain. So, to help you orient yourself, here’s a briefer. Catch up while you can, as there are indications that the newest mobile blockers for iOS are already slipping in their App Store popularity. (In fact, as of Tuesday, there were no ad blockers in the App Store’s Top Ten lists.)Nevertheless, the category remains strong. A recent report found that about 16 percent of users in the U.S. block ads. Globally, there are nearly 200 million people stopping ads, 181 million of whom are on the desktop. Almost $22 billion in global ad revenues has been blocked so far this year, representing about 14 percent of all global ad budgets, with the U.S.’s final figure for 2015 expected to be about $10.7 billion. Next year, the U.S. figure is projected to double. That study, from anti-ad blocking firm PageFair in partnership with Adobe, found that “mobile ad blocking is still ver…

Apple Reduces the Flash Storage Portion of the 1TB Fusion Drive to a Meager 24GB, Down from 128GB

Announced around 3 years ago, Fusion Drive is Apple’s fancy name for hybrid drive. This implies the combination of a hard disk drive (of 1 TB or more) with a NAND flash storage (solid-state drive of 128 GB) as a single Core Storage managed logical volume with the space of both drives combined. And while this is indeed a nice technology to have, somehow Apple has managed to ruin it in the new iMacs with 1 TB Fusion Drive. According to the guys over at 9to5Mac, it seems that Apple has slimmed the 1 TB Fusion Drive down to a measly 24 GB of flash storage.Previously, Apple has included 128 GB of flash storage, which was enough to store a lot of large apps and frequently used files. But it seems that Apple has changed its mind and has cut down that number to just 24 GB. This means that the new drives ship with less than one-fifth of the previous flash storage, which is just crazy and unfair, if you ask me.The information comes right from Apple’s iMac spec page, so this is pretty much as off…

The Messy, Mappable World Of Influence

US Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart famously declared (about pornography): “I know it when I see it” — and you could say the same about influence, except that it’s much harder to actually define.Dr. Robert Cialdini, the author of the book, “Influence,” defines it as “change,” or the ability of a given person to affect the views, beliefs or behaviors of another person.Google Trends shows a fivefold increase in interest for “influencer marketing” over the past five years, spurred by social media. Recently, McKinsey reckoned that social recommendations influenced 26 percent of all consumer purchases.Clearly, something is happening. In a recent piece, public relations majordomo Stephen Waddington argued that “influence was more than a numbers game” and reinforced the importance of context in making influence work.He is, of course, right. Influence is almost certainly contextual. This means that a person may have influence in one sphere but not another. At one trivial level, this means y…

B2C Content Marketing Report: 94% Of Marketers Use Facebook, But Only 66% Rate It Effective

The Content Marketing Institute’s latest B2C Content Marketing Report found nearly all the B2C marketers it surveyed are using Facebook to distribute content, but only 66 percent say the platform is effective.Polling marketers on a number of B2C content marketing tactics – everything from types of content being used to what’s most effective and budget allocation – the survey found content marketers are using, on average, seven social media platforms to distribute content.According to the findings, this year marked the first time in the report’s history that promoted posts, social ads and search engine marketing was more frequently used than print or other offline promotions for paid distribution methods.Social Media Platform UsageWhen asked which social media platforms are used to distribute content, 94 percent listed Facebook, making it the most popular social platform among B2C content marketers. Eighty-two percent use Twitter, while 77 percent use YouTube and 76 percent take advan…

Aurous lets you Stream Music Totally Free with no Ads but it’s Already Being Sued

Aurous is a brand new service which is getting a lot of attention these days. What makes it so special is the fact that it allows users to “enjoy music how you want to for free“. Think of it as Apple Music or Spotify, and Rdio but the huge difference is that everything is totally free and there aren’t any ads whatsoever. While Aurous hasn’t detailed too much how it manages to achieve this, the explanation is that it’s pulling music from a variety of third-party sources instead of negotiating with record labels and artists. I’ve downloaded the app on my Windows laptop, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to play any music, because of an annoying bug.Aurous is developed by Andrew Sampson and it uses more than 120 public APIs to collect tracks from such services as SoundCloud, YouTube, and Spotify. While this doesn’t sound as illegal as directly torrenting the music, this is still a questionably legal way to stream music. Aurous also uses the peer-to-peer networking technology in order …

Increased CTRs Just The Beginning For Facebook Dynamic Product Ads

After debuting earlier this year, Facebook’s Dynamic Product Ad (DPA) product has been lauded by some industry-watchers as one of the company’s most ambitious releases in terms of functionality — enabling advertisers to automate retargeting across desktop and mobile with greater relevancy based on catalog or product feed data.As part of my work at Nanigans, I’ve been monitoring the performance of DPA. We’ve observed more of our advertisers steadily coming on board in advance of the holiday season, as those that have already deployed DPA have seen pretty impressive performance. This is particularly true on mobile, where DPA represents the most versatile and “hands-off” retargeting option on Facebook. While this fact alone presents value across industries, retail and e-commerce companies have been fastest to adopt this retargeting ad product among our customer base.Retooling The Print Catalog For The Digital Age — A DPA Case StudyOne way we introduce retail customers to DPA is to encoura…

Samsung Z3 with Tizen Launched at Rs 8,490; Features a 5-inch Super AMOLED Display and 1GB RAM

There is no denying that the world has been split into two bastions, one, the Google Android users and another who swear by Apple’s iOS. Windows on the other hand has been limping to become the third alternative. Samsung has already been trying hard to make a mark in the OS wars and their weapon of choice has been the Tizen. The Korean smartphone manufacturer has today launched the Samsung Z3 priced at Rs 8,490 (~$125) which will join the Tizen lineup along with the Z1 and the Z2.The Samsung Z3 is equipped with a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a quad-core Spreadtrum SC7730S SoC tagged with a 1GB of RAM and a 8GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot that can accommodate an extra 128GB of memory. iOS 9 Jailbreak from Pangu is now Available for free Download

The Pangu Team is one of the most know iOS developing team, as they are notorious mainly thanks to their Pangu jailbreaking tools. iOS 9 has been available for the wide public for only a week, but it seems that Pangu has already cracked the code with the release of Pangu 9, the first untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 9.Thus, if you are looking for a tool in helping you bypass your device restrictions and enabling root access to iOS 9, you can now download for free the iOS 9 jailbreak. If you’re new to the concept of jailbreak, you should know that it will allow you to install apps and customizations which are usually unavailable through the official App Store for iOS.The Pangu iOS 9 jailbreak is only available for Windows users at this time and works with iOS 9.0, iOS 9.0.1, and iOS 9.0.2. Facebook Pushes Back Against European Privacy Onslaught

Facing increasingly emboldened data protection regulators in Europe, and a recent judicial setback concerning cross-border data transfers, Facebook appears to be taking a more aggressive stance on privacy and digital identity. In multiple countries the company is both seeking to educate regulators and the public while using the courts to fight back. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that across Europe Facebook is entangled in multiple cases and investigations involving national regulators focused on overlapping but sometimes distinct privacy questions:Ahead of a court ruling due in Belgium as early as this week, the Menlo Park, Calif., company is attacking this case against it as an ill-thought-out attempt to regulate privacy that would instead remove one of the tools Facebook uses to stop automated programs from hacking into users’ accounts . . .In Germany [ ] a regulator ordered Facebook over the summer to allow users to use pseudonyms as opposed to real names. Facebook has appeal…

App Store Ratings: A Single Star Jump Can Mean 340 Percent More Downloads

Given the data about app engagement, much is at stake in the success or failure of a marketer’s mobile app. App users spend more time and money and are generally more loyal customers than non-app users (though there’s a bit of chicken and egg issue here).A poorly designed app can frustrate or alienate customers or in the extreme damage brand perception. A successful app can (and should) become the foundation of a brand’s multi-channel strategy. This is where app store ratings enter the picture. A one-star bump can make a big difference in downloads says a recent survey from Apptentive.Source: Apptentive Consumer Survey (2015)
The in-app feedback provider recently asked 350 smartphone owners in the US about the “minimum star rating they’d accept in order for them to consider downloading an app.” Roughly 60 percent of respondents said that they “usually or always check ratings before downloading an app.”According to the survey only 15 percent would consider apps with a 2-star average rati…

Invite Confirms OnePlus X Launch on October 29 in Six Cities Across the World

OnePlus X has been one of the most anticipated devices this month, and the rumor mills have been churning out leaks and information in full swing. After all those doses of speculations, finally we come to know that the OnePlus X will be released at an event to be held on October 29 (or 28 if you are in the US), simultaneously across six cities including New York, London and New Delhi. The latest dope comes in the form of an invite from OnePlus which reads “See you on October 29, India” accompanied by what seems to be two saber lights arranged in an “X” fashion. So you get it right? OnePlus X will be the first phone from OnePlus which will not be a flagship offering, yet we wouldn’t be wrong to expect some class leading features, if previous OnePlus phones are something to go by. The invites surface just after the OnePlus X was spotted on the TENAA/FCC certifications. On a much lighter note, the picture above shows Hugo Barra of Xiaomi holding what possibly looks like the OnePlus X/Mini …
