For the first time in two years, Facebook’s share of the social login market dropped according to new Gigya data, but the social network remains the dominating leader with nearly two-thirds of the market.Gigya’s third quarter report, released today, shows Facebook with a 64 percent share of people who use social networks to sign into websites and mobile apps. That’s down two percentage points from last quarter, breaking a string of seven consecutive increases for Facebook in Gigya data pulled from sites and apps that use its sign-on technology.Google+ added two percentage points to its share and now has 22% of the market. The also rans Twitter (6 percent), Yahoo (4 percent) and LinkedIn (2 percent) didn’t change; their totals have remained the same throughout 2015.Facebook’s has an even bigger margin on mobile devices, with 76 percent to 16 percent for Google+ and 7 percent for Twitter. Google+ gained 1 percentage point, while Facebook lost the same.In several of the verticals Gigya t…

Deals And Data Can Make Or Break Holiday Sales

The holiday season is a great time of the year to break away from the day-to-day, indulge in food and drink and get your hands on some great deals. But for marketers, the most wonderful time of year can also be the most stressful. There’s tremendous pressure to influence people and turn purchase intent into sales at the tail end of the year. In fact, nearly one-third of some stores’ profits are made in just the final two months of the year, reports Reuters, citing results from NPD and PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC).If there’s one time of the year to make sure you are giving people what they want, it’s at the start of the holiday season — Black Friday through Cyber Monday.Holiday deals can have a real impact on how businesses shake out by year-end. In a recent study (registration required) by Retail Touchpoints and Magnetic (my employer), people found information about limited-time offers and sales to be the most helpful during their shopping journey. In addition, 85 percent said that an e…

Protecting Your Brand From Online Fraud, Infringement & Other Emerging Threats

A few weeks ago, I attended the “Protecting Your Brand From Online Fraud, Infringement & Other Emerging Threats” session at SMX East and was pleased to learn a few new techniques and tidbits from some experts at their individual online reputation crafts. Here’s my recap of that session. The session was moderated by Matt Van Wagner, president of Find Me Faster, and it starred Tad Miller, VP of Accounts at Marketing Mojo (@jstatad), Michael Steck, general counsel at Avalaunch Media (@stecklaw) and Eric Berman, counsel at Venable LLP (@allaboutadvlaw).Should we be surprised that two of the three presenters were attorneys at this search marketing conference? Really, we shouldn’t be; the more you know about online reputation issues, the more you recognize that managing brand presence online involves a tight hybrid between marketing best practices and application of good legal precedent.First up was Miller, who focused upon forms of “Conquesting” — that is, methods by which marketers att…

Amazon had surprised us a year ago with its plans to deliver packages using drones and now here we have Skype founders develop a new robot which will deliver packages in the neighborhood for under £1.The little robot is named Starship and as we told earlier it has been developed by Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis, both Skype Co-founders. The robot transits on the pavements at a speed of 4mph and it uses navigation technology and native mapping to reach its destination. At this juncture the Starship robot is still being tested out and are intended to be used primarily in the suburban areas. The first pilot of the Starship robot will be Greenwich in East London. The Starship Robot can comfortably carry a payload of 20lbs (9Kgs) and will be placed at the nearest Hub. The robots may be charged and cleaned once they return to their hubs, only if deemed necessary. The stowage space will remain locked until and unless the customers unlock it using their mobile app.

Does Your Email Marketing Need CPR?

If you run an e-commerce or service company, you know email sales can be the lifeblood of your firm’s marketing. However, if your email sales results are DOA, then you need to give your email tactics a bit of CPR. That is, correct your mistakes, practice persistence and rotate your marketing approaches.Correct Your MistakesErrors can lessen the impact of your email sales campaign. So start by looking at your tactics to see if you’re making some of the most common mistakes. The one I see most often in autoresponders and newsletters is simply a lack of effort to make the sale.As an example, think of the internet marketer who lines up a six-email autoresponder sequence, saves the sales pitch for the sixth email, and when that doesn’t generate a sale, simply writes off that lead.Remember here that email open rates are nowhere near 100 percent, and limiting himself to six emails with the sales pitch only in the last email in the sequence means that internet marketer is going to have a very …

How to Improve your Decision-Making Skills & Become a Doer

“Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?”– Harry Warner, co-founder of Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc.From questions like,Should I take up this job? Will this decision yield better results for my company?Should I pursue a career in a particular field?Should we launch this new product?toDo I look fat in this dress?Should I continue this relationship?Should I buy or rent the Apartment? we are bamboozled with numerous decisions to make on a daily basis. Numerous decisions to make and still we don’t face a meltdown on a particular decision. People are given their choices, they make their decisions and they live on with it. But there has to be a better way of doing it, given the immense progress science, research and psychological studies that have been.Put perfectly by Daniel Kahneman, the Psychologist who won a Nobel Prize in Economics and the author of Thinking Fast and Slow, “A remarkable aspect of your mental life is that you are rarely stumped”.We tend to make decisions either intuitively…

Review: Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus – Everything You Wanted to Know

We have been asked more questions about it than any other phone so we guess it is only fair that we structure the review of the new iPhones in the form of an extended Q&A – everything that you want to ask about the iPhone answered. We hope!Right, let’s get this out of the way first off – they say the new iPhones look exactly like their predecessors. Is that right? In a word: Yes.In keeping with the iPhone design philosophy of keeping the original and S versions looking pretty much the same (remember how difficult it was to distinguish between the iPhone 4 and 4S, 5 and 5S?), Apple has pretty much followed the same design sheet for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus as it did for the 6 and 6 Plus. The only change that is discernible is in weight – the new iPhones are heavier than their predecessors – the 6s is 14 grammes heavier and the 6s Plus 20 grammes heavier. They are also a tad larger across all dimensions, but the difference is so small (0.1-0.2 mm types) that unless you are Superman …
