Instagram Introduces Partner Program To Help Businesses Market Better On Instagram

Instagram continues to mature as a marketing tool.Today, the Facebook-owned social network introduced the Instagram Partner Program to help advertisers and businesses use Instagram to reach consumers. It’s a natural next step for a company that several months ago opened its advertising platform to all advertisers. Previously, Instagram had held the ad keys closely to make sure that paid promotional messages didn’t diminish Instagram users’ experiences. Now after opening the flood gates, Instagram is doing what parent-company Facebook, and other digital platforms like Twitter, Pinterest and Google have done — solidified official partnerships with third-party marketing firms to help businesses figure out the most efficient ways to spend their marketing dollars. The Instagram Partner Program has 40 partners at launch today, divided into three categories: Ad Tech: Advertisers can easily manage ads throughout the planning, buying and optimizing processCommunity Management: Marketers can bett…

Facebook’s ‘Photo Magic’ to Scan your Camera Roll for Photos of your Friends

Facebook is always adding new features to their products and also release new services almost every month. Now according to a fresh report coming from Buzzfeed, it seems that Facebook is testing a new feature in its Messenger app called “Photo Magic“. It will scan your Camera Roll in order to find pictures of your Facebook friends. It seems that Facebook is focusing these days on bringing even more features to Facebook Messenger, as we’ve recently talked about the new Message Requests feature which replaces the ‘others’ folder. The new feature doesn’t even imply that you have to upload your photos, as all is being done locally. This is a bit intrusive, indeed, as Facebook is no longer online-only, but it’s reaching its hands to your offline files, as well. You just need to give Facebook Messenger the access it needs and then Photo Magic will use its facial recognition technology to help you notify friends on Facebook when you’ve taken a photo of them. Thus, Photo Magic will work every t…

Apple recently said that Siri will be coming to Apple Music on the new Apple TV at the beginning of next year, but there’s already evidence of the new functionality being ready.Jeff Benjamin from the iDownloadBlog publication has shared a video demo of Siri being used to search for songs, albums, artists and playlists on Apple Music from the Home screen on the new Apple TV. Pinterest’s New Visual Search Results Won’t Have Ads

With Pinterest’s new in-Pin search users can zoom in on a specific element within a Pin to find other Pins that are visually similar to the selected element. It’s image-driven search without keywords. What you won’t see in Pinterest’s visually similar search results are Promoted Pins.“We do not show Promoted Pins in visually similar results. This technology only applies to organic Pins, and only organic Pins are eligible to show in visual search results,” a Pinterest spokesperson told Marketing Land.Pinterest, which now claims 100 million monthly active users, has been methodical in its roll out of its Promoted Pin ad product this year. At the same time the company has focused on improving discoverability and users’ search experience on the platform — all the better to find pins featuring marketers’ products, many of which are now shoppable. The new in-Pin visual search adds an entirely new layer to discovery, and flips traditional keyword-based search on its head. It will likely have …

Why Synergistic Email Marketing Makes Sense

We’ve all heard about how predictive intelligence is changing email marketing. The use of predictive models to generate offers based on user profiles, behaviors and other variables has obvious benefits for both brands and users. One of the reasons predictive intelligence is so useful is that it places the brand smack-dab in the middle of the consumer’s existing life patterns and online routines.Rather than forcing the consumer to take a hard turn toward the brand and its products, predictive intelligence tools meet consumers where they are and deliver content or offers that naturally align with their needs. But predictive intelligence isn’t the only kid on the let’s-go-where-consumers-are block. Although it doesn’t get as much attention as predictive intelligence, synergistic marketing positions brands at the center of consumers’ life patterns — and it generates big benefits for both businesses and consumers. In its simplest sense, synergistic marketing involves two brands working toget…

Customer Engagement Provider TouchCommerce Enters Social With A “Let’s Step Over Here” Feature

Marketers talk a lot about communicating with customers on social media. But, if there’s a public post from a customer or would-be customer complaining about a product, chances are others will see the back and forth posts with the brand before it is resolved or taken elsewhere. Not exactly a great way to support a brand’s identity.Today, customer engagement provider TouchCommerce takes a step toward the online equivalent of gently leading an irate customer to a quiet part of the store, where the problem can be resolved. It is entering social media for the first time with its new TouchSocial feature. It allows a marketer or a customer service agent, having discovered the customer or potential customer through a social listening platform like Hootsuite, to post a message (e.g., “Please click here to chat with us”) and a short URL for that user. The link leads back to a waiting live agent in a chat window on the brand’s site. The agent will have the original post, source, and username, so s…

Demandbase Integrates Its WhoToo Acquisition So Marketers Can Target Departments Inside Companies

In September, B2B targeting company Demandbase acquired data provider WhoHoo. Today, Demandbase announced a new B2B Data Cloud whose main distinction from the company’s previous cloud-based data is that it integrates WhoHoo so that marketers can regular target departments within companies.Demandbase specializes in account-based marketing that targets companies, utilizing its own database that identifies IP addresses employed by a given company. So, if a user appears on a client company’s website from the IP address for the HR/financial management software provider Workday, Demandbase’s platform could target a display ad about, say, HR products or could help to personalize the website content toward Workday’s interests. But now, CMO Peter Isaacson told me, Demandbase can utilize the integrated WhoHoo data to determine that the visitor is from the IT department at Workday, and can thus show the person, say, an ad about servers.Demandbase is calling this new capability Job Function Target…

6 Reasons Visitors Hate Your Website

“Should I stay or should I go?” It’s a decision that most visitors subconsciously make when landing on your website. The window to capture their interest is short-lived and impacted by various factors. What exactly can you do to guarantee that they don’t bounce? The majority of website visitors are just flat-out annoyed. Therefore, it is important to create a careful design and strategic content strategy to avoid any failures. We’ve rounded up the six main factors that influence a visitor’s experience on your site:Mobile Design
Impact: High Bounce RateMore searches take place on mobile devices than on desktop computers. Consequently, a poor mobile design can fluster visitors and revert them back to Google search to find another source. This increases your website’s bounce rate. Consider your consumer’s mobile needs, and decide whether to go for adaptive vs responsive mobile design. Then evaluate your font size, hyperlinks (opening in a new tab or window), page navigation, and other key …

Facebook To Fight Belgian Court Mandate To Stop Tracking Browsing Behavior

Like Google, Facebook is under fire in Europe from privacy regulators. Today the company said it would appeal a decision by a court in Belgium that ordered Facebook stop collecting data on user browsing behavior when not logged in to the site. The lawsuit was filed earlier this year by the Belgian privacy authority. It arises in the broader context of Belgian complaints about Facebook privacy practices more generally. According to the Wall Street Journal Facebook faces immediate fines and must stop all monitoring of non-logged in user behavior within 48 hours:Local media reported Monday evening that a Brussels commercial court had ruled that Facebook must stop within 48 hours the collection of data on users’ Internet browsing when they are not logged in. If they didn’t stop, then Facebook would face a daily fine of €250,000 ($269,000), the reports said.Facebook said it would appeal the decision in a statement provided to the WSJ: “We’ve used the data cookie for more than five years to …

With Copyright Reform Is Europe About To Declare “War On The Hyperlink”?

The European Commission (EC) and other European Parliamentary Committees are working to “harmonize” copyright laws across Europe. There’s a fragmented set of laws and enforcement structures that the EC wants to fix pursuant to its ambition to create a single digital market. This makes considerable sense as Europe seeks to compete globally and to provide uniform content access to Europeans across the continent. That’s part of the rationale behind copyright reform embodied in a “leaked report” on copyright reform (embedded below) from the EC:The range of online content available in one’s home country does not reflect the breadth of Europe’s cultural production and legal content offers online of European works are still far from realising their full potential. This is particularly the case for European audiovisual works, which in many instances struggle to be distributed, including online, beyond one Member State. While much of the discussion in the report is about the abstract need to rec…

comScore To Support AMP Project, Better Tracking Of Accelerated Mobile Pages

As publishers are considering making use of the new Google-backed accelerated mobile pages (AMP), some might wonder if they’ll be properly credited for when this fast loading content appears at Twitter, Google and elsewhere. Enter tracking service comScore, which is pledging support.comScore provides metrics about the popularity of web sites both to the public and to institutional clients, based on data is gathers from a variety of sources, including a panel of people who allow their web browsing to be monitored. With accelerated mobile pages — AMP — it’s potentially harder for such popularity metrics to be created, since these pages might block loading of tracking scripts and other methods used to measure usage. That’s why comScore is now supporting the AMP Project. Gillian Heltai, vice president of marketing solutions at comScore, told Marketing Land, via email:In a world where users now spend the majority of their digital time on mobile devices, we welcome initiatives such as the AMP…

WordPress Used On 25 Percent Of All Websites [Report]

Evan Lorne / WordPress, long known to be the No. 1 content management system (CMS) in use online, has reached a new milestone: It now powers 25 percent of all websites across the web. That’s according to the newest data from W3Techs, a company that tracks the usage of different web technologies. (W3Techs explains its methodology in the blog post I’m linking to above.)It’s far and away the most popular CMS, with the next two closest competitors — Joomla and Drupal — powering less than five percent of all websites.W3Techs’ Matthias Gelbmann says WordPress’ dominance is only going to get bigger:We have indicators that show that WordPress is likely to grow even further. In October, 29.5% of new sites used WordPress. New sites usually show the way where the whole market is heading to.If we look at sites that changed their CMS technology recently, we see that WordPress is mostly gaining from Joomla, Drupal and Blogger. There are also systems that gain more sites from WordPre…

Snapchat Hits 6 Billion Daily Video Views

The online video arms race continues to accelerate. The latest salvo? Snapchat users are now watching more than six billion videos a day. That’s triple what people were watching on the ephemeral chat app last May and an increase of two billion since September. The new number, which Snapchat confirmed with The Financial Times over the weekend, follows last week’s news that Facebook is now serving eight billion daily video views. Facebook’s total is double the view total the social network claimed in April. As close watchers of this battle well know, the competition for video eyeballs is more than a mere numbers game. Each of the networks, along with Google’s YouTube, is fighting to claim the biggest piece of the lucrative video advertising market, which eMarketer predicts will jump 42 percent to $7.5 billion in revenue in the US this year.Comparing metrics for the networks remains tricky since YouTube prefers to track usage in hours (it says hundreds of million of hours are watched daily…
