Acquisition Of Ad Network Fluent By “Data Fusion” Provider IDI May Create A New Marketing Powerhouse

At first glance, information solutions provider IDI’s purchase this week of customer acquisition/ad platform Fluent seems like just another acquisition. But a deeper look shows the building blocks for a marketing powerhouse.IDI, based in Boca Raton, Florida, employs advanced “data fusion” technology to extract useful insights from multiple and diverse data sources. The difference between this approach and, say, other kinds of data integration is the difference between a combined dataset and interpretations of that data.IDI has primarily applied its technology to regulated data, like your name and your Social Security number, for such purposes as debt collection, fraud prevention, cybersecurity and due diligence.New York City-based Fluent, on other hand, has built up a first-party databank on more than 100 million customers. It obtained them via real-name signups on various sites it owns, like Samplesandsavings.com and Allamericansavings.com.A user who registers at one of their sites fo…

Facebook & Instagram Now Offering Ads Targeted At Holiday Shoppers

Last minute shopping for holiday customers? There’s still time on Facebook and Instagram. The social network is rolling out a new ad-targeting segment to enable brands to zero in on people who are highly engaged with content related to holiday shopping, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The segment, which will run through New Year’s Day, can be used on any ad format on either network.Facebook will pull together the audience by sniffing out holiday-related keywords in posts that people publish and posts they like, comment on and share. Like all Facebook targeting, the audience is aggregated and anonymized. The new segment is already available within Facebook self-service ad dashboards in the “Behaviors” section under the “Seasonal and Events” category. Facebook first did something similar with a “Big Game” ad-targeting segment for the Super Bowl this year. The company also offers targeting segments for American football, baseball, cricket and rugby.

Finding that needle in the haystack is a little easier when the haystack is 98 percent smaller.Luckily, we have the power of AdWords Scripts to help us clear out the clutter and get rid of the duds. Let’s write an MCC-level AdWords Script to clean up after ourselves as we load and test new keywords.[Read the full article — and get the free AdWords script — on Search Engine Land.]
