Facebook Gives Page Owners Tips To Improve Their Video Production

Any way you spin it, 2015 has been a huge year for Facebook video. The numbers are spectacular, with daily video views more than doubling since January and now sitting at 8 billion, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s most recent announcement in November.Even critics’ arguments — that Facebook’s video metrics are suspect because they are based on three-second views or that they are substantially inflated by people stealing viral videos from YouTube — don’t diminish the fact that Facebook video is a huge opportunity for marketers. And during the year, Facebook has rolled out many tools to help people with their video efforts on the platform. So many that there’s a good chance many Facebook Page owners aren’t aware of them. The tools range from scheduling options and new engagement metrics to adding captions and embedding videos on third-party sites, and Facebook product manager Anaid Gomez-Ortigoza wrote a blog post today as an end-of-the-year reminder of how to use them best. Here are s…

What is URL Canonicalization and how to Use Canonical Tag Properly?

Google definitely wasn’t the first search engine that surfaced the Internet. But Google did things in a better way and provided results that were actually useful. Google hasn’t stopped expanding as a company since that very day.Though SEO is done for all the search engines that exist today, one major search engine that handles most of the traffic on the Internet is Google. Whenever we talk about SEO, people automatically assume that we are talking about optimizing the website for Google. When it comes to SEO, we need to check many factors, both onsite as well as offsite. But if your onsite SEO is not up to the mark, no matter how well you do your offsite SEO, you will not get the results you are expecting. For beginners:What is Google crawling & indexingThe importance of Keywords in SEO (Newbie guide)How to get organic traffic from Search engineI was checking one of the websites I was doing SEO on, and I found that the website had some serious issues related to Canonicalization. RLSA Vs. Customer Match In AdWords: Similar But Different

Google’s recently released Customer Match (CM) product allows advertisers to load email addresses into audience lists in AdWords to use those lists for ad targeting through search, YouTube and Gmail Sponsored Promotions. When looking solely at the search functionality of this product, it may remind many of Google’s Remarketing Lists for Search Ads (RLSA) product, which allows marketers to create audience lists based on recent site visitors for use in search ad targeting. Here are a few important commonalities and differences between the two products to help you determine how each might help your paid search program.[Read the full article on Search Engine Land.]

3 Brands That Dominated Cyber Monday And What They Can Teach Us About Consumer Engagement

This year, many shoppers skipped the hustle and bustle of Black Friday for the convenience and comfort of Cyber Monday. ComScore reports that digital shopping growth is on track to outpace in-store growth this year — again. The $70 billion in sales through desktop and mobile represents 14-percent growth over 2014’s digital sales figures. Sure, tryptophan-induced daydreams played a part in keeping consumers out of brick-and-mortar stores, but the ease by which shoppers find and make the most of online deals is by far the biggest contributor to this shift. Each holiday season, brands bombard consumers with advertisements — billboards, TV spots, radio ads and promoted social posts. Yet younger consumers don’t feel connected to traditional advertisements the way older generations do; they feel the old car-with-a-bow-in-the-driveway antics are superficial, staged and hard to relate to.Instead, consumers shop with and follow the brands that offer authentic experiences that feel like two-way c…

Product Hunt’s 3.0 Update for iPhone Brings Podcast Support

Product Hunt, every tech writer’s favorite place for source material saw a big new iOS release today. The 3.0 release for iPhone (and only for the iPhone) adds lots of stuff like a whole new UI with more focus on images, live chats, and new sections that make PH much more diverse than tech. The most exciting thing though is podcast support. Finally.A while back, PH added a Podcasts tab on the web. And much like it did for tech writers before us, this tab turned out to be a great source material for podcast fans.Hunters would submit podcast episodes (note: not podcasts themselves) that they thought were cool and the community would use the upvote to decide their faith. The comments section also turned out to be interesting sometimes. This was a great place to visit every day if you liked listening to podcasts (or rather, one-off podcast episodes) about startup stories, entrepreneur interviews, future of tech and something called growth hacking – but not so much that you’d actually subscr…

Are You And Your Customers Speaking The Same Language? Does It Matter?

Over the past few years, I’ve observed an interesting trend, and it’s troublesome to me. I wonder if companies even realize they’re doing it. The company is creating content and optimizing it, but for some reason, it’s not working. They’re not getting the traffic or conversions they hoped for, and many times, they’re not sure why.As we sit to discuss the situation, they’ll often say, “We’ve done everything we’re supposed to do. We created content. We optimized it. Why isn’t the customer buying?” Maybe they’re not quite that direct, but that’s what they’re trying to figure out. Many times, it’s painfully obvious to me why something isn’t working, but it’s hard to explain to a client for fear of offending or alienating them. When you’ve created content, optimized it and followed best practices, and it’s still not working, you have to figure out what’s wrong. In many instances, it feels as if the client and their customers aren’t even speaking the same language.Right now, you’re probably q…

Google Gets Serious with Android Tablets, Split-Screen Multitasking Feature on the Works

Tablet as a device has been hit hard by the large screened phones which offer almost a similar degree of utility. As we have been seeing lately, the hybrid laptops have been picking up pace as they double up as machines people could work on. Pixel C from Google is the first tablet designed by Google themselves and the keyboard it comes with suggests how serious Google is with prepping the Android as a full-fledged computing OS. However, the very fact that Android apps are not yet optimized for this particular use case and the limited scope to multitask have developed a bottleneck.Google is well aware of the challenges and limitations in this project and thankfully it is also addressing them duly.  Here is what Glen Murphy Android and Chrome UX director has to say “There are many things, like multi-window, that we’ve been spending a lot of time on-hopefully we can share more about this soon.”  He further added that “We’re working on lots of things right now for the N that, of course, w…

No Conversions Set? No Problem. AdWords Debuts Automated Smart Goals

Without conversion data, optimizing AdWords campaigns simply isn’t possible. Many small advertisers don’t have the expertise to properly set-up campaigns and end up setting up campaigns with simple goals like acquiring more clicks. Google has announced new ‘smart goals’ for those using both AdWords and Analytics that will use website insights to guess which clicks may be optimal.Simply put, small businesses that currently use Google Analytics will have the ability to use their own website data with no extra code or setup required. Google will analyze both the good and bad metrics occurring on a site and automatically shift towards the better traffic. According to the announcement from Google:“… we apply machine learning across thousands of websites that use Google Analytics and have opted in to share anonymized conversion data.  From this information, we can distill dozens of key factors that correlate with likelihood to convert: things like session duration, pages per session, locati…

Yahoo Mail Throws Open its IMAP Support for Gmail and Google Apps

Yahoo has decided to take on Gmail in a rather queer manner, by integrating its rival services in its apps accounts. Yahoo seems to be frantically working itself up to match the rivals as it not only recently revamped its mail client but also pulled the wraps from the all new Yahoo Messenger. The company has expanded its IMAP support to include Gmail and Google Apps accounts thus enabling users to club in their email accounts within the app. Yahoo seems to have come up with this feature to attract more Google services users and tempt them to try out the Yahoo mail client. Until now Yahoo Mail used to support Outlook, AOL Mail and Hotmail, the Gmail was the only major one to be left out. While Gmail is leading the pack when it comes to E-mail Services, Yahoo is struggling to stay relevant. The company wants Yahoo to not just be a platform on which users will be able to stay in touch with their friends but also shape up as a database to store all the user related information. Do These 5 Things & You Will Be Ahead of 99% Of The Population

Did you mean right now?1. Say aloud: “I will do pushups now!”
2. Drop to the floor and do as many pushups as you can get.
3. Stand up and say aloud: “Well done!”
4. Get a pen and paper ASAP and write three things, people, achievements, gifts, etc. you are grateful for. Any three things will do, including how tasty your breakfast was.
5. Read those three things aloud and affirm once again to yourself: “Well done!”Do those five things and you will be ahead of 99% of the population. I can’t even tell you how far you will be in 5 years because I’m just a bit over three years into a similar program.Nonetheless, my life has changed dramatically. Comparing to my situation three years ago, I read almost twice as fast, I am about 15 pounds lighter, and earn about 50% more. We lived in a small flat, now my family live in a small house. I broke almost 100 personal fitness records. I had an unfulfilling job, now I have… well, a less-unfulfilling job, with a bigger salary and more responsibility. …

IBM’s Watson Is Now In the Marketing And E-Commerce Business

Since its win on the Jeopardy TV show, the powerful question-answering intelligence known as IBM Watson has been making its living providing insight in such fields as health care, finance, education and medical research. But with the introduction last month of the IBM Watson Trends app — which allows shoppers to understand which products will probably sell out — and with Watson’s support for the recently announced IBM Commerce Insights, the technology platform is now in the marketing and selling business.Commerce Insights offers users of IBM’s WebSphere Commerce platform a single, more visual view of customer and business performance data that previously required a variety of tools and reports. It draws on data from inventory, websites, sales and other sources, and provides new perspectives on what the data means. For instance, Commerce Insights can layer its analytics right on the relevant part of web pages that the customer sees, so the marketer can immediately see what part of the pa…

Marketing Relationship Platform BuzzStream Unveils Search Engine For Influencers

Chasing the buzz. From the BuzzStream website. A while back, BuzzStream co-founder and CEO Paul May told me, his company put out an Advertising Guide to Content Promotion. They wanted to promote it, and began looking online for people who have written about that topic. They used Google and BuzzSumo, a tool that allows a marketer to find the best-performing content on a topic. His staff had to then find the people behind the posts, see what else they had written, find and collect those other links, and so on. It was, May said, like “going down a rabbit hole.”So this week his Austin, Texas-based company unveiled a free open beta of a new Discovery search engine for finding complete info about influencers. This new offering is “a huge jumping off for the company,” he said — not really a new direction, but a more complete realization of BuzzStream’s original vision of bringing together the relationship-building tasks of PR, SEO and social media marketing. The company was founded in 2008 and s…
