How Marketing Can Use Big Data To Win Back Users

When marketers talk about “win back” strategies, they are usually referring to campaigns created to get churned customers to re-engage. It’s about thoughtfully engaging with users in the moment during every interaction. That may sound obvious…and daunting. The iPad Pro Only Diaries, Day Four: We Have a Multimedia Monster!

It was a relatively quiet fourth day in terms of work on the iPad Pro (hey, we writers have our quiet days, especially towards the end of the year), which meant that I could mess around with one of the features that is supposed to be a key selling point of the biggest iPad of ’em all – multimedia. So, well, I decided to dabble a bit with some high definition content and play a few games – the sort I usually play. And well, interestingly the first thing that strikes you when you start playing a game – I chose the spooky Room 3, just for the record – on the iPad Pro is NOT the large display. I mean, yes, games do look utterly gorgeous on that massive 12.9-inch, 2732 x 2048 resolution display. But, hear me out on this, the first thing that really hit me when The Room 3 started was not just how good the game looked (perhaps I expected it to), but the SOUND. The iPad Pro comes with two sets of stereo speakers, giving it four speakers in all. And they are not spec sheet decorations either – …

MarTech Landscape: What Is An Ad Network?

Ad networks make it possible for advertisers to buy digital ads across a slew of publisher sites and apps. How they came to be and how they work is the focus of this installment of our MarTech Landscape Series.A Brief HistoryFirst, a walk down memory lane. Ad networks sprouted up during the dotcom boom that started in the mid ‘90s. As the number of sites and digital publishers proliferated, they needed a simple way to increase inventory demand and ad revenues. Likewise, advertisers needed help scaling their digital ad buys across a growing number of websites without having to deal with each publisher directly. In the beginning, there was DoubleClick. Launched in 1996, the digital ad services agency pioneered the concept of an ad network and attracted buyer demand with its ad performance tracking and reporting solutions. The company acted as a middleman, brokering ad buys between advertisers and a network of publishers.DoubleClick survived the dotcom bust of 2000, and Google bought it i…

Disney Vertigo: New Robot Car That can Drive up Walls

Disney has been mostly known for its Animation business, but now it seems that the company has developed a new interest of making robots. The VertiGo is a small robot car which can climb walls and drive on them. Disney’s research arm has been producing some great and equally crazy stuff, and the latest one seems to be this four wheeled creeper robot.Result of a partnership between Disney Research Zurich and the university ETH Zurich, VertiGo is capable of rolling up on the wall by using the two propellers attached to it. This will allow the robot to move on walls and other vertical surfaces at a fascinating pace. The researcher responsible for the VertiGo said thatBy transitioning from the ground to a wall and back again, VertiGo extends the ability of robots to travel through urban and indoor environments, the robot is able to move on a wall quickly and with agility. The demo of the Robot impressed us. It looked like an agile little bug that can drive its way through any kind of incli…

Philips Hue Review: Fun Over Purpose

The idea of having a connected smart home with control on our fingertips has engulfed many of us over the past couple of years, but with little success. Many companies have offered varied solutions, but the connected space itself is still in its infancy. Philips has been a pioneer when it comes to wireless lighting systems, and the Philips Hue has set a benchmark for not just wireless lighting, but everything IoT (Internet of Things). We went hands on with the Philips Hue Starter kit which finally made its way to India, and here’s our detailed review. Before we even get into the review, we need to get the devil off our backs. Philips Hue is pricey, and there are no two words about it. At Rs 16,995 in India ($200 in US and €179 in Europe) for the starter kit with 3 LED bulbs, and Rs 3,500 for every extra Hue bulb, it’s hard to justify the price if you’re looking it to replace your home lighting. There are many other cost effective solutions like buying smart plugs or dimmer switches, bu…

Snapdrop is a Web-Based AirDrop Clone for Cross Platform File Transfer

Airdrop was introduced as an Adhoc service for Apple devices in order to transfer files and share photos in a better and faster way. All you needed to do was open up the application and send the files to another device in the vicinity. Just like most of the other Apple Apps the Airdrop too is just restricted for the AppleeEcosystem. Let’s talk about Snapdrop, a web tool with similar functionality as AirDrop, but without the platform restrictions, which inadvertently means that Snapdrop can be used across multiple operating systems and devices. The best part is that in order to use the services you don’t need to install a separate app. As a matter of fact, users are not even required to sign in before using Snapdrop. The tool does what it claims to do, seamlessly transfer the data across two devices on the same network without any limitations on the amount of data that can be transferred. To enable discovery, the webpage should be open in both the devices on the same network, thankfully …
