Google Updates Chrome Data Saver, now Supports Videos for Offline Access

Google is bringing some significant updates to their services primarily for Indian users. Along with Play store improvements for poor connections, they’re also adding new features to Chrome’s Data saver which essentially compresses pages to load quicker. Data Saver will now users to download entire web pages with graphics and texts along with better compression capabilities for videos.

For starters, videos will now buffer more efficiently thanks to the upgraded Data Saver which will save up to 67% of your data when viewing MP4 format videos through Chrome and interestingly, Google claims that this new feature is already saving 138 TB of data on video in a single week. Additionally, Chrome will automatically optimize pages to run 2 times faster than before. Furthermore, you’ll now see a new download button alongside elements such as videos or music files, tapping on it will make the content accessible offline. You can also save the entire page with all the images, videos and read them later through a new offline tab in the downloads section.

Moreover, ongoing downloads won’t fail if the connection is lost, they’ll be resumed as soon as it’s back. Chrome also has a new content discovery home page that will recommend articles and pages based on the location you can read instantaneously or download for later purposes. Basically, an extension of Google Now. All of these features are currently available for the Chrome Beta and will be rolling out to the stable channel in the coming weeks. Google constant efforts for empowering regions with inconsistent networks will for sure, bring more people online. They’re also launching a dedicated YouTube app – YouTube Go for viewing and downloading videos offline.

Another SEO tool drops the word “SEO”
