The Crowd Sourced Eve V Windows 10 Hybrid Promises to Overdeliver on Specifications

Windows 2-in-1 devices are literally swarming the market while Microsoft and Lenovo are competing with high-end ultrabooks or even the mid range Yoga series other players like Micromax are trying to get a foothold in the budget segment. Now Eve V is an interesting Windows 10 2-in-1 device as it has been developed from scratch and the company claims that almost every aspect of the machine has been inspired by the input from the community at eve.community.

Also, the Eve V is crowdsourced and will be live on Indiegogo by the end of this month. The company has already revealed the complete specifications of the Eve V and it is impressive indeed. Buyers can choose between Intel 7th Gen Core M3/i5/i7 along with a RAM of 8GB or 16GB. On the storage front, the Eve V offers SSD starting from 128GB to 512GB. Display shapes up un the form of a 12.3-inch IGZO LCD set to resolve at 2736×1824 resolution and 450 nits of brightness. Also, the display comes with a Gorilla Glass with Anti-reflective and Anti Fingerprint coating and is touch enabled.

Eve V packs in an impressive 48Wh of battery and comes with the usual array of sensors including Fingerprint, Hall, Gravity, Light, Gyroscope, and GPS. Audio arrangements on this machine include four quad speakers rated at 1w each, headphone jack audio amplifier and noise-cancelling microphones, two in numbers. Now as you might have observed the specs bring the Eve V eerily close to the Surface Pro 4 and not only that, the specifications are something that we would expect on an iterative upgrade for Surface Pro 4. Also, the N-Trig (Ironically this is the same Israeli startup whose Technology had been acquired by Microsoft)  Stylus which has 1024 pressure levels and comes with two buttons.

Well the connectivity options on the Eve V are superlative indeed and include 1 X Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C, 1X USB 3.1 Type C, USB 3.1 Gen 1 USB-A and the MicroSDXC card reader. It is surprising to see that a new company has been able to get high-end hardware and a custom designed product on the offing but the ability of the company to fulfill the same is something that can be questioned. That said, Indiegogo and Kickstarter projects are mostly known for its innovative pedigree and the same also comes with a certain degree of risk for the buyers.

Priced at $900 the Base Eve V comes with Intel Kaby Lake and it certainly seems a worthy product barring the question mark with regards to sales and support. Just to put things in perspective, Eve team has explained how it would meet the expected demand and will also be able to provide adequate support in a recent Reddit AMA. The spec sheet for the Eve V makes it evident that the company wants to overdeliver on the Hardware front I just hope that the product will be positioned effectively.

How to Get SMS Alerts for Gmail via Twitter

How do you get SMS notifications on your mobile phone for important emails in your Gmail? Google doesn’t support text notifications for their email service but Twitter does. If we can figure out a way to connect our Twitter and Gmail accounts, the Gmail notifications can arrive as text on our mobile via Twitter. Let me explain:Twitter allows you to follow any @user via a simple SMS. They provide short codes for all countries (see list) and if you text FOLLOW to this shortcode following by the  username, any tweets from that user will arrive in your phone as text notifications. For instance, if you are in the US, you can tweet FOLLOW labnol to 40404 to get my tweets as text messages. Similarly, users in India can text FOLLOW labnol to 9248948837 to get the tweets via SMS.The short code service of Twitter can act as a Gmail SMS notifier. You create a new Twitter account, set the privacy to private and this account will send a tweet when you get a new email in Gmail. Follow this account …

Another SEO tool drops the word “SEO”

This guest post is by Majestic’s Marketing Director, Dixon Jones, who explains the reasons for their recent name change.
Majestic, the link intelligence database that many SEOs have come to use on a daily basis, has dropped the “SEO” from it’s brand and from its domain name, to become majestic.com. Since most people won’t have used Google’s site migration tool before, here’s what it looks like once you press the “go” button:

In actual fact – there’s a minor bug in the tool. The address change is to the https version of majestic.com (which GWT makes us register as a separate site) but that message incorrectly omits that. Fortunately, elsewhere in GWT its clear the omission is on Google’s side, not a typo from the SEO. It is most likely that the migration tool was developed before the need for Google to have separate verification codes for http and https versions of the site.

There were a few “nay sayers” on Twitter upset that Majestic might be deserting it…
