Moto G (3rd Gen) and Moto G Turbo Edition Get Price Cuts in India

Motorola has announced yet another price slash and this time around it is both the Moto G (3rd Gen) and the newly launched Moto G Turbo edition whose prices have been reduced. The Moto G3 is now retailing at an impressive Rs 9,999 (for 8GB RAM variant and Rs 10,999 for 16GB variant) whereas the Moto G Turbo is available at Rs 12,499. Apart from the price reduction, Motorola also has a exchange program going on which will offer up to Rs 4,000 on your old handset for the Moto G (3rd Gen) and up to Rs 5000 for the Moto G Turbo. It is difficult to ascertain the reason for the reduction in the prices but it probably has something to do with the increased competition and an impending sales target. It comes as no surprise since even Apple, a company that seldom offers discounts axed the price of iPhone 6 and the 6s drastically. The Moto G (3rd Gen) is a pretty good device and it also comes with advanced water resistance technology to handle those occasional splashes. On the imaging front, it f…

How Much Did Countdown Ads Play Into Search Advertisers’ Strategies This Holiday Season?

At the end of 2014, I wrote that dynamic copy needed to be an integral part of paid search advertisers’ 2015 arsenal. I spoke to the positive results I had seen with Google AdWords ad customizers. Then in June, I presented a case study of the AdWords countdown customizer that showed the CTR and conversion rate to be higher on dynamic ads than on their static ad counterparts. Needless to say, I’ve seen great results with dynamic copy.As a follow-up to these posts, I wanted to see if advertisers made use of countdown ads this holiday season. As a reminder, here is what a sample countdown text ad looks like:A countdown text ad Along with the countdown customizer, I looked at Shopping ads to see if advertisers were using Merchant Promotions. This feature allows Shopping ad units to include a “Special offer” link, which opens a pop-up that contains the promotion. In this pop-up is a countdown of how much time is left until the offer ends.A Merchant Center Promotion that dynamically counts do…

Is Your Paid Search Account Leaking Money? The Importance Of Query Mapping

There’s never a bad time to look for efficiencies within your account. Of course, there are the obvious things to look for: keyword bids, dayparting, geography and device performance and so on, but sometimes inefficiencies stem from issues below the surface. One of the ways I like to dig into an account’s structural and economic health is by taking a look at query mapping.By that I mean filtering through the search queries to see which ad groups and keywords queries are being paired with and subsequently adding negatives to ensure that queries are matched most appropriately. (I’ve heard query mapping called by other names such as negative keyword sculpting, negative keyword funneling and keyword mapping. I use these terms interchangeably.)Query mapping isn’t really a new concept, but a lot of advertisers aren’t familiar with it and/or don’t see the value in what might seem like tedious work.  The most common anti-query-mapping arguments that I hear are:It’s time consuming. The engines d…

How To Ensure Your SEO Recommendations Get Implemented

One of the most common problems in the SEO industry is that clients often do not implement their agencies’ SEO recommendations — and then they complain when they don’t get the results they expect from their SEO campaign (i.e., increases in visibility, traffic and conversions). There are several reasons clients do not implement SEO recommendations, including:Not having the appropriate resources or time to make the recommended changes.Internal politics and red tape.Lack of qualified developers.High cost associated with the changes. No internal champion.Limitations to the CMS.The bottom line: If they don’t implement any SEO changes, your clients’ brands are set up to fail. For your clients to embrace and fully implement your SEO recommendations, some processes and procedures should be put in place. Here are three common challenges you may run into, and how to handle each.[Read the full article on Search Engine Land.]

How TV (And Video) Influences Search Behavior

We idealize that picturesque Friday night family time where Mom, Dad and their 2.5 kids fire up NBC on the one television in the house and snuggle in on the couch for 30 minutes or an hour of uninterrupted entertainment. But that was when we only had access to one form of entertainment at a time. Multi-tasking wasn’t a thing. Marketers and advertisers only had to worry about competing against other marketers and TV advertisers. There were no second screens; some people didn’t even have one screen. Now, it’s more like Mom, Dad, their 2.5 kids and their seven electronic devices are all watching a different TV show in different rooms of the house. In 2015, Nielsen ran a study of more than 30,000 global respondents, and 58 percent of them said they browse the internet while watching video programming. Another 47 percent of them said they engage with social media while watching video programming.Consumers don’t know how to be entertained by only one thing at a time anymore. We’re constant con…

Out With The Old, In With People-Based Marketing: What Marketers Should Expect In 2016

The beginning of a new year brings resolutions, new beginnings, and for many marketers, a fresh look at their strategies to reach and engage customers.Technology continues to advance, creating a marketing atmosphere where the only constant is change. It’s more challenging than ever to determine which digital trends will be the next big thing and which will be a flash in the pan. While 2015 brought a continued proliferation of channels, devices, apps, platforms and toolsets, marketers shifted their attention to refocus on what really counts: people.Research from Signal (my employer) found that 82 percent of marketers plan to increase use of first-party data — that is, data from a brand’s own customers — because it gives the best insight into customers and contributes significantly to an increase in lifetime value.Marketers are realizing that digital marketing is moving beyond cookies and browsers and that with the right technology, they can tap into their own gold mines of customer data…

2016: The Year Social Intelligence Makes Its Way To The Boardroom

Now that we’re a couple of weeks into 2016, we can easily draft post after post about what went right or wrong in 2015. Alternatively, we can look at predictions of what’s in store for the marketing world in 2016.But there’s one thing I am certain of: For the new tier of CMOs who understand that data is their best asset, 2016 is looking mighty fine. These marketing mavens recognize the power of all forms of data — especially when blended — to inform and drive their organizations. They make up the class of CMOs who will define the new marketing landscape and dominate the boardroom. As a marketer myself, my particular passion is social data. Nothing gives me a greater buzz than talking with other savvy marketers who have figured how to strategically build finite value from social. For them, it all starts with listening. If you are a marketer making your way up the food chain, mastering social intelligence may represent your road map to the corner office. Hopefully, you’re already aggregati…

MediaBrix Brings Its Brand Of Mobile Ads To Messaging App Kik

From the MediaBrix home page If you’re a teen or a young adult in North America, you probably already know about Kik. The Ontario, Canada-based messaging app claims over 200 million users and average user sessions of 35 minutes, which is why brands want in.Teens and young adults are “the first mobile-first generation,” MediaBrix CEO Ari Brandt told me, adding that they are “also the first generation growing up in a media world where ads are skippable.”Today, MediaBrix is bringing its user-centric approach to mobile advertising to Kik. It joins others that are trying to create Kik-appropriate ads, like a Washington Post trivia game about March Madness, a promotion from Burger King to push its Chicken Fries stickers, or an invitation to watch a branded video in exchange for points by footwear maker K-Swiss.Points are the key medium of exchange for users on Kik. They can be used to buy coveted emojis and stickers, and you can only gain points in ways that Kik offers with brands.MediaBrix

Facebook Rolls Out Live Streaming ‘Mentions’ Android App For Verified Users

Those Verified Facebook users with Android devices finally can take Facebook Mentions on the go, thanks to a new Facebook Mentions Android app. Mentions was launched by Facebook back in Summer of 2014 for iOS and until today Android users have been left out of the loop.Others left out from Mentions? The general public. A blue badge is required as Mentions are currently for Verified users only. This however may change down the road. In the fall we saw Facebook open up a form where users could apply to become a verified user. Not verified yet? Apply as for your shot to become verified. As of last month, Pages can now apply as well, helping to open the gates for verified brands and companies.Twitter’s Periscope is currently flourishing and we’ve seen Facebook begin to scramble over the past 6 months to catch up. This Android app is just another sign of how serious Facebook is on live video and is a space that brands and companies should be watching … even if not accessible yet.For more i…

LeTV Globally Gets Rebranded to LeEco, Expected to Launch Le Max and Le 1s in India on Jan 20

Ever heard of the Shakespeare’s quote what’s there in a name? Well phone manufacturers think otherwise and after the confusion surrounding Motorola, LeTV will be doing the same. LeTV will now be called LeEco and the tagline goes like this- “A New Eco World”, the company has also redesigned its logo and it seems to be increasingly focusing on its ecosystem. The new logo is made of interconnected letter “L” and “E” which obviously stands for Le Ecosystem and the interconnected letter represents a closely knit ecosystem. The re-branding has also prompted the Chinese company to change its website domain name from LeTV.com to Le.com. Le has now eliminated the usage of the word TV from all its main and sub branding. At the occasion, Ablikim Ablimit, Vice President of Strategy said that “Letv is where we started, but LeEco is our future” he further added that “We will create a more beautiful eco world with new value for our users, and our brand-new logo will bring users into this exciting worl…

Windows Phone: the Real Casualty of the Chinese Wave?

We used to sell several units a day. Before the Chinese phones started coming,” the executive at a Microsoft (formerly Nokia) store in Delhi is pretty clear about what really sent his brand’s fortunes into decline. And he does have a point. For while many might talk of the impact the high-performance-at-low-price phones from (mainly) Chinese brands have had on established Android smartphone giants like Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC, one of the lesser known casualties of the Chinese assault has been Windows Phone. If that sounds difficult, cast your mind three years back to 2013. Android was getting severely fragmented between the haves and the have nots – on the one hand, you had extremely powerful flagship devices that delivered many a dollop for many a Dollar in performance terms, and on the other you had budget devices that were best for basic browsing a bit of social networking and e-mail. There was a mid-section between the two as well, but even that was a significant step down from …

Micromax Canvas Fantabulet : a Monstrous 6.98-inch Screened Phablet Priced at Rs 7499

After launching the YU Yutopia which came with a tagline of the most powerful phone, Micromax has launched the biggest smartphone ever. The Canvas Fantabulet features a 6.98-inch display (Micromax is trying really hard to ensure it’s not 7-inch) and it aims at making a place for itself in the rather crowded phablet market in India. The mammoth 6.98-inch display is set at HD (720p) and it is complemented by the dual box speaker setup at the front. The Canvas Fantabulet draws its power from an unnamed quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM. On the imaging front, the phablet offers an 8-Megapixel primary camera and a 2-Megapixel secondary sensor. The Canvas Fantabulet offers 8GB of internal storage along with microSD card support. The device is backed up by a 3000mAh battery and runs on Android Lollipop. Also, you will get the usual bundle of applications which Micromax usually preinstalls in all of its phones – not something you’d like on a phone with just 8GB of…

Skype Introduces Mobile Group Video Calling on the Eve of its 10th Anniversary

It’s been a decade since Skype first introduced video calling and it has decided to celebrate the occasion by launching Skype group video across Android, iOS and Windows 10 Mobile platforms. Skype has been one of the most widely used video calling services globally and it is said to have generated a whopping 2 trillion minutes of free Skype video calls in the last decade, globally.Skype has assured that the feature will be available in the “coming weeks” and users can also try it out early by registering on the company’s tenth anniversary website. Skype was introduced for the mobile devices almost 6 years ago and ever since 750 million people have downloaded Skype on their phones and it is one of the most popular apps across the App Stores.Mistake not, Skype is definitely not the first one to start the group video chatting services. Google Hangout had the feature for a while and many other video calling services are known for the same but adding the group video calling on Skype will t…

Report: Facebook Audience Network Testing Expansion Into Mobile Web Advertising

Facebook is running a test to expand the Facebook Audience Networks’ reach to mobile web advertising, according to an AdExchanger report. The social network confirmed to AdExchanger that the test, which apparently started about a month ago, is running and acknowledged that Diply is among the small set of publishers participating. The move to the mobile web is another sign of Facebook’s encroachment into a space dominated by Google’s AdSense publisher network.Facebook Audience Network (FAN) launched in 2014 as an in-app advertising network for mobile app publishers — and competitor to Google’s AdMob, Twitter’s MoPub and other app ad networks. FAN offers advertisers the ability to harness Facebook data and buy ads in apps outside of the social network while still using the Facebook ad interface.Like Google, which enables advertisers to buy in-app ad and mobile web ads through the AdWords interface, the FAN expansion would provide another one-stop-shop for buying in-app and mobile web adv…
