The Marriage Between Conversion Optimization & SEO

As SEOs, our job is to increase the amount of qualified traffic to clients’ brands with the intention of having end users buy something, fill out a form, download a brochure or perform other actions on a site. While improving traffic is great, it doesn’t necessarily result in more sales. So how do we actually get our clients more business through organic search? The answer is quite simple: conversion optimization.Conversion optimization is the most powerful way to improve your clients’ revenue and conversions from end users. We can optimize every element of a site (e.g., technical, links, on-page, social and so on), but if users don’t convert, our efforts toward driving qualified traffic through organic search are not as valuable (unless traffic is your main KPI).There is an extremely close correlation between SEO and conversion optimization. Therefore, the two must work together to turn visitors into customers. How Do We Improve Conversion Through SEO?This is the million-dollar questio…

Franchise SEO: For Masochists Only

If you like getting repeatedly punched in the face with a boxing glove on a mechanical arm, then working on a Local SEO program for multi-location franchises is the right job for you. While SEO for any multi-location organization can be tricky, the complicated dynamics of franchises can make a SEO engagement the equivalent of playing 3-D chess on the surface of a Rubik’s Cube. Here are some of the key challenges:Lack Of Centralized Control Of ListingsThe ownership of franchise location information is often a can of worms. Each franchisee may or may not have already claimed their Google My Business profile and local citations.Maybe an ex-employee has the logins. Or maybe no one has the logins. Regardless, the listings are likely a mess, and trying to fix them across multiple accounts can be an arduous task.Franchisees That Don’t Understand SEOThis problem is not exclusive to franchises. We often work with clients who have little to no knowledge of SEO. That’s why they hire us, right? But…

Jivox Teams With Taggstar To Add Social Proof To Retailers’ Dynamic Ads

Jivox, a dynamic digital ad production, targeting and serving platform, has announced a partnership with Taggstar to enable e-commerce advertisers to target and deliver personalized ads with “social proof” messaging in real time.Taggstar’s Social Proof Engine pulls in real-time data about product popularity and other trends derived from users’ browsing history. That data is then used in personalized dynamic ads created and served through the Jivox IQ Dynamic Ad Platform.Social proof messaging can include the number of people viewing an item, product reviews and ratings, top-trending items and product scarcity.“Whereas people might ask for friends’ opinions when they are shopping in-store, online shopping is a solitary experience. Social proof can provide online shoppers with a virtual ‘thumbs up’ that what they’re thinking of buying is the right decision,” said Marjorie Leonidas, managing director, Taggstar. “Through our partnership with Jivox, online retailers can now increase sales …

Three Reasons CRM Marketers Should Partner With Digital Media Teams In The New People-Based Era

Facebook first introduced the concept of “people-based marketing” in 2014, and in less than two years, it’s gone from buzzword to business driver. In the last quarter of 2015, Facebook reported $5.64 billion in advertising revenue — driven in large part by the growing popularity of its Custom Audiences offering that helps marketers target ads at real people, rather than cookies or devices.Amid the excitement around Custom Audiences, it’s easy to forget that a people-based approach isn’t actually that new. The original people-based marketers are those in charge of engaging and retaining customers and turning them into brand loyalists. These customer retention marketers pioneered strategies to reach real people through tools like direct mail, email and rewards programs.Retention and loyalty programs are fueled by a brand’s first-party data and the CRM (customer relationship management) systems used to store rich customer-level information such as demographics, preferences, spending patte…

How To Analyze Your Content Needs

We’ve previously discussed how to conduct a content audit. Part of that process is to perform a gap analysis, a rather fancy-pants way of saying “figure out what isn’t there, then figure out how to get it in there.”Easier said than done. Knowing you need content is not unlike moving into a new, empty house and knowing you need furniture. Of course you do. But what kind? What style? What color? What pieces for what rooms? How much do you require to be functional and practical, and how much would make things cluttered and impractical?Even once you’ve boiled it down to “sofa for the living room,” you must still determine if it’s a sectional, if it has arms and if you ought to order the matching footrest.Fortunately, there are are systematic ways to go about analyzing and assessing content needs. This includes determining not only what kind of content is required and in what format, but other factors, as well, including how often, when and where to reach which target audience segment effe…

Sony IMX318 Smartphone Camera Sensor has Crazy Tiny Pixels and a Lot More Affordable

Sony has been lately struggling in the smartphone market, their latest flagships failed to impress the crowd and their budget handsets are in a serious need of an upgrade. However, they are a big deal when it comes to camera hardware which is widely consumed by Apple, Samsung and a lot of OEMs. Today, they are extending their sensor lineup with a cheaper and compact module, the new IMX318 CMOS Exmor RS image sensor. The IMX318 is the first mobile 1/2.6-inch stacked CMOS sensor with inbuilt hybrid autofocus capable of locking focus in 0.03 seconds and 3-axis electronic image stabilization. It has a maximum resolution of 22.5-megapixels (5488 x 4112-pixel count) and Sony says that the IMX318 will start shipping in May this year which falls just in line with the possible Xperia Z6 announcement (probably at IFA 2016).Sony also mentions that the IMX318 is manufactured using the smallest unit pixels (measuring 1.0um) available, because of which the sensor is able to maintain a compact aesthe…

The Best 5 Parental Control Apps for Android and iOS

Toddlers, young children and even teenagers may need to be a bit overseen by their parents, when it comes to smartphone or tablet use. As you may recall for yourself, when young, you tend to invest too much time in playing games, getting lost while browsing the big bad world of internet or other stuff as such, and forget about every day duties, such as doing a proper homework. With that thought in mind, today we’re going to showcase a small but comprehensive collection of tools and applications that can enforce parental control over Android, iOS other type of devices. Some of these tools below also go beyond the scope of just limiting the time spent on browsing, or forbidding the installation of certain applications, and can actually go all the way to cutting internet access itself for the mobile device after a certain amount of time and more. Also, you will find a certain group of apps that can track the location of your kid, but we have consciously tried to stay away from those that …

Google My Business API Allows Enterprises To Make Real-Time Location Data Changes

On the surface business location management is a solved problem. Behind the scenes it has been anything but. Google and partners are hoping to change that for enterprise customers via the Google My Business API.This morning Yext announced that it has rolled out Google My Business API integration across its client base. The company said that more than 200 of its customers representing approximately 100,000 business locations are now being managed via the API “across Google Search, Maps, and ads.” Yext is positioning the API integration as a part of its PowerListings Network.Yext competitor SIM Partners earlier announced integration of the API. Yext argues it’s the “first to market at scale.” However any entity that qualifies can potentially use the API to manage location data for multi-location enterprises. The API permits potential real-time data changes, such as weather-related store closings or special holiday hours. While the changes can be pushed live in real time, Google has contr…

5 Yelp Facts Business Owners Should Know (But Most Don’t)

If you ever want to hear a business owner rant, just grab some popcorn and casually bring up Yelp. The mere mention of the controversial company’s name generates a range of emotions — often times negative with a tinge of despair. At best, business owners are frustrated with the volume of sales calls they receive; at worst, they are on the receiving end of a number of negative reviews they don’t know to handle. We work with many multi-location and franchise businesses every day to improve Yelp presences, and I can say definitively that the despair is often unnecessary. Yelp is not a black box, but rather a nuanced platform that you can navigate to your advantage. Here are five facts about Yelp that, if understood and embraced, can morph that despair into determination to turn Yelp into a positive asset that helps the business.1. The Filter Is FluidThe Yelp Filter is the most frustrating part of Yelp for many business owners, so let’s address it first. Many reviews come into Yelp, appear o…

How to optimize images for SEO

There are many ways to make your articles easier to read on the web – lots of paragraph breaks, short snappy sentences, headings, sub-headings, Gifs of Kanye West’s mood swings – but one of the key ways to make your content look attractive is by using lots of lovely images. And the best thing about images, is that they can be used to bring in organic traffic via search engine image results. But in order for this to happen, they need to be optimised accordingly. Here’s a guide to make you aware of the key things you need to be doing when it comes to uploading images to your site, which a surprising number of people often ignore.Choosing imagesIt’s important to use images related to the text of the article. This is mainly from a user experience point of you, as you don’t want to baffle people with an obtuse choice of image.Cute, for sure, but Otis the Cat doesn’t belong here (although try telling him that).Your images need to be of a good quality, in the correct aspect ration, with good re…

MixRadio Shuts its Shop, Thanks to the Harrowing Revenues and Line’s Streamlining

After changing hands with a couple of owners, MixRadio has been shut down, courtesy its current parent company Line. We had to write this with a heavy heart since MixRadio was probably one of the best online music player we came across and was first introduced to, courtesy the Nokia handsets it came bundled with. The MixRadio, at least in India, boasted of being the cheapest music streaming app with solid content repository. The MixRadio was not just about the streaming but also the very fact that it let subscribers download unlimited songs with DRM rights, a rarity with online music players these days. Line, the Japanese messenger service had bought the business from Microsoft in December 2014. The company says that ever since then it has been struggling with the “overall performance” and the financial challenges posed by the music streaming industry as a whole. So the shutting down doesn’t just seem to be due to the financial stress but also due the very reason that Line is trying to …

Personalization Data Provider Lytics Adds Netflix-Like Content Analyzer

Suppose a marketer knew what kinds of specific content might interest you, the way Netflix knows what movies you might like. That’s the idea behind the new release from personalization data provider Lytics. The Portland, Oregon-based company is announcing today that it is adding individual-level content analytics to its repertoire, in the form of a Content Affinity Engine. For about the past 18 months, Lytics’ core product — its Customer Data Platform — has been taking user signals from web sites and apps, and providing feedback to marketers on what approaches might work best. The signals — web traffic, email response patterns, social media interactions, customer purchase data, mobile app data, and the like — are used to populate identified as well as anonymous profiles of a business’ customers or visitors. From this data, for instance, Lytics might determine that some users who do not open marketing emails might better respond to Facebook ads, if those same users are on the social network…

How to Setup Google Tag Manager for Tag Management on your Site

Google tag manager (GTM) is one of the newest free product by Google to make life of a Webmaster easy. For every Website we create, we end up adding many tags, Javascript for social buttons and scripts like Google analytic tags, advertisement tags or any other. Now, let’s see this from a non-technical point of view, what if you just got a new tag and you need to add it to your Blog, you have to edit the core theme file manually and add the code, and this may not be an easy option for many. Google tag manager comes out as a solution for tag management from a single web interface, and you can quickly add and remove the tags at any time. Along with it, using a single tag for tag manager, speeds up the load time of your webpage as Google loads code asynchronously, that means your Website will not be slow because of slow loading tags. Now, here in this guide, I will be sharing how you can use Google Tag Manager and manage all your Website tag from one place in an easy and convenient way. Be…
