Quick Wins To Beat The SEO Waiting Game

When you start at a new company as the SEO specialist or pick up a new client, one thing everyone wants is to see quick results. The fact that SEO takes time can be a struggle as you try to show value while also satisfying your own desire to make an impact. Here are a few SEO techniques that will let your colleagues or clients know you are the real deal, bringing value with your expertise.1. Win With Featured SnippetsWinning a featured snippet spot can have a huge impact, bringing organic traffic to a page. Although getting featured in the quick answer box is not guaranteed, there is a pretty simple formula for optimizing your content for it.Start by going to the Google Search Console to find rankings for queries that contain a question — you can do this by filtering for queries containing “how,” “what” or “why.”Once you have a list of keyword phrases, check search volume and prioritize your list, focusing on the keywords with the highest search volume. If you do not currently rank for…

5 Link-Building Techniques You’ve Been Neglecting

Link building isn’t black and white, is it?There are so many methods you could be using, but it feels like each one has been… well, overused. Frustrating, isn’t it?However, I believe there are a lot of strategies out there that you’re not using — either because you have forgotten about them or are simply neglecting them. And they could make all the difference in your rankings. If you want to find out the five you’ve been neglecting the most, read on…1. IFTTT For Link Target Discovery AutomationIf This Then That (IFTTT) is a beautiful platform that lets you automate a lot of your life. You can use it for social media, organizational tasks and sending those networking emails you always forget to send. But you can also use it to automate your link-building strategies. Now, let me be clear: This tool won’t be building the actual links for you. Instead, it helps with discovering and identifying potential link targets. Let me give you a few examples:As Neil Patel shows here, IFTTT can notify y…

A Primer On Automating AdWords With Structured Data

One of the PPC trends I mentioned in my last post — where I described 11 things to keep your AdWords healthy in 2016 — was the rise of ads from structured data. There are several campaign types where AdWords currently handles the automatic creation of ads and targeting based on structured data, including Dynamic Search Ad campaigns and Shopping campaigns. The momentum of ads from structured data is evident in Merkle RKG’s report from the last quarter of 2015, where they show continued growth in clicks for shopping ads and a dramatic increase in the share of that traffic coming from partner sites. In this post, I’ll cover some additional ways you can start to leverage your structured data to automate the creation of highly relevant and customized ads, starting from the simplest and taking you all the way to a solution that uses AdWords Scripts. What Is Structured Data? Before going into what the available solutions are, let me explain what is meant by the “structured data” which is needed t…

Understand Your Customer For Free

The customer journey. The customer experience. The right user at the right time on the right device.Marketing technology vendors everywhere are trying to deliver this message to digital marketers — why they’re better than the next option at helping brands understand their customers and engage them in optimally compelling ways. But let’s unpack that a little: What does “understanding the customer” mean, and where do you look for the data?I’ll answer the second question first. One option is to pay a lot for centralized data through a data management platform (DMP); this collects data from a bunch of separate sources, aggregates it and then lets marketers utilize that data wherever they want (for example, in a Facebook advertising campaign). It’s robust and flexibly deployed, and if you know how to use it, it’s well worth the cost.Another option — and what we’ll focus on here — is free data. For the sake of this post, “free” means data from platforms you may already be advertising on (Go…

7 Billion People, One Story: The Power of Content Curation

Skrillex, Diplo and Calvin Harris are some of the world’s most popular DJs. They dominate the music scene, publishing record-smashing hits and selling out massive venues with their cult of loyal followers. But unlike the Bruce Springsteens of the music world, these artists aren’t typically known for creating original music.DJs have a unique ability to capture lyrics, sound bites and melodies from other artists and pull them together into something new entirely. Believe it or not, marketers have far more in common with DJs than one might think. In a real-time world where marketers don’t have a minute to spare, creating fresh content is a headache, and creating a lot of it is a pipe dream. So I’m going to let you in on a little secret: sometimes the best content isn’t original. While DJs pull creativity from other artists’ music, marketers have more than seven billion people in the world to draw inspiration from. The solution is the same. In the marketing world, the tactic is known as co…

MoPub reports that, for the first time, in Q4 2015 brand spending outweighed that of performance advertisers on the in-app ad exchange.Fortune 1000 brands accounted for more than half of the ad spend on the MoPub exchange globally in Q4, and Fortune 500 brands generated a third of total spend. That’s according to the Q4 2015 Global Mobile Programmatic Trends report that the Twitter-owned ad exchange released on Wednesday.More Ad Buys Happening Via Private MarketplaceThe shift in brand spend stemmed in part from the higher number of private marketplace transactions where publishers can sell premium inventory programmatically to selected advertisers. Compared to the previous quarter, private marketplace deals rose 30 percent, and publisher revenue from private marketplaces increased 165 percent quarter-over-quarter in Q4 2015.This growth follows the larger trend. Tapjoy Beefs Up Its MarTech/AdTech Mobile Combo With New Ad Partners

From Tapjoy’s website Monetization platform Tapjoy is adding more advertisers to its dual service of mobile marketing and mobile advertising.Today, the San Francisco-based company is announcing a partnership with MoPub, AerServ, and Fyber, three adtech companies that connect mobile publishers with advertisers. But to understand this new announcement, let’s first walk through what Tapjoy does. The company originally became known for its rewarded advertising in mobile apps, where a user is offered premium content or other incentives — such as access to higher levels in a game — in exchange for watching a video ad.One can think of this approach as a bribe, or as a trade of attention for additional goodies. But this kind of performance-based ad appeals to users because they can “earn” additional content or privileges in an app without paying, and the advertiser only pays if the user has played the video ad.In 2014, Tapjoy bought the South Korea-based marketing automation company 5Rocks. Sinc…

AdWords: six simple techniques to save you money

We are all constantly trying to squeeze as much as we can from our AdWords budgets and we never seem to quite have enough. So we have compiled some advice that could save you money on a monthly basis!IP exclusionsHow many times would you say you look at your own ads? 10-20 times a month?Unwillingly you are increasing impressions, which can decrease your click-through rate and have a negative knock-on effect on your quality scores.Ultimately, your cost-per-click could increase due to general maintenance on your account.Unfortunately, we have experienced the same issue with some of our own clients who love our ads so much that they have the recurring urge to click on them. Although, for some, this is only a few pounds here and there, others are wasting up to £30 on just two clicks. This is not good for our end of month reports when cost-per-conversion has increased. Therefore, as part of the new client set up, we now ensure that our IP address and clients IP addresses are excluded. We use…
