Allo is a Smart New Messaging App That Comes Packed With Google Assistant

In a surprising turn of events, Google unveiled a brand new messaging application for iOS and Android called “Allo” (pronounced like “Aloe”) at their annual developer conference in San Fransisco. The main feature it highlights is Google’s new and more interactive “Assistant” platform which provides a more natural way to interact with search queries. Allo also mostly represents Google’s fresh approach to communication and unexpectedly, it won’t be interfering with the currently available “Hangouts” app.Along with the basics that a chat app is supposed to come with including stickers, sending media, delivery indicators, Allo also packs a new unique functionality titled “WhisperShout” through which you can drag your finger up or down to resize texts for better context. For instance, if you want to shout and using capital alphabets isn’t enough, you can enlarge the message. It allows you to sign up with a phone number and a Google account, however, the latter isn’t compulsory. But of cour…

Make room for Google Home, Amazon Echo/Alexa

The new Google Home Google wants become the genie for your home.Today, the tech giant announced Google Home at the opening of its Google I/O conference in Mountain View, California, confirming earlier reports. It’s a voice-activated device that looks like a small bookshelf speaker and acts as a voice-recognizing, intelligent front-end to music and other entertainment, everyday tasks like calendar appointments,Google’s search engine, and home automation systems like Google’s own Nest. It’s an obvious response to Amazon’s popular Echo device and Alexa intelligent agent, introduced in the fall of 2014. But, while Amazon can offer the world’s largest retail store and content inventory, Google has search and its immense knowledge and product ecosystem.Users access the always-listening device, according to a video shown during the I/O keynote address, by saying “OK, Google.” The device itself, which includes a speaker and microphone, can be customized with different colored or textured bottom…

Google announces Firebase Analytics & Universal App Campaigns updates for app developers

At I/O on Wednesday, Google made several announcements for app developers looking to market and promote their apps with Google, including a new analytics platform for app developers. The company also touted Universal App Campaigns — the campaign type that launched a year ago to enable developers to run ads across Google properties and networks with one campaign set up in either AdWords or the Google Play Developer Console — for helping Google become a competitor in the app install ad market, despite being late to the game. The number of app installs driven by ads more than double in the past year, the company announced, generating more than 2 billion app downloads. That puts Google in line with Facebook, which noted at this year’s F8 developer conference that ads on its platforms have driven 2 billion app installs. (Let the stat battle begin.) App install ads have become big business; eMarketer estimated advertisers spent $3 billion on app install ads in the US alone last year.Firebase…

“Content is not a conceit or a vanity project, it makes people money”

Content marketing has been one of the industry’s buzz phrases for the last few years, but as the medium rapidly evolves and consumers’ expectations change, are businesses still getting it right?Amy Nicholson, managing editor at content strategy agency Sticky Content, says it’s time for businesses to install their own great content leaders, who can bring together expertise from every division in their company to create a great content strategy.ClickZ caught up with Amy to find out more in advance of her talk at this year’s Shift event. Why is now the time for businesses to install a great content leader?Because content is bigger, faster and stronger than it’s ever been, and it deserves the respect of its own department. Why? It’s not a conceit or a vanity project – content makes people money. And its value is easier to prove than ever.Content is everywhere – on dozens of channels that didn’t exist 10 years ago and performing 1,000 functions that cannot be limited to the old marketing an…

SEM too competitive? Here are three alternatives for building your customer base

One of the biggest pain points of many small to mid size businesses in digital marketing is the fact that they have to compete against larger, more well-established brands who can afford to throw large budgets into digital marketing and pay higher CPCs to stay at the top of the SERP.For those with smaller budgets who are trying to maximize efficiency in a competitive landscape, being able to pay for these higher CPCs in paid search just isn’t really an option. So how can one still capture and convert users while be as efficient as possible in doing so?We all know that social and display don’t have the same level of high intent as paid search – but it’s important not to completely discredit them.Although users may not necessarily be actively searching for your product or service, there are a couple of ways you can still get your ad in front of extremely relevant audiences that will have a high chance of converting – while also avoiding the aggressively high CPCs you’ll see in search.Bel…

How mobile has changed our present and future search behaviour

Well, first thing’s first. Mobile search isn’t mobile. We carry out most of our searches when we are static, on average 70%. Button tapping accuracy is reduced by 30% because we walk vertically. This is one of the reasons why voice search exists in the first place.Voice search is going to diminish the use of incorrect spellings which will eventually mean that PPC teams will, over the next few years, reduce the number of optimised keywords due to a decrease in incorrect spelling.Let’s look into the keywords “skin care” with a space and “skincare” without a space to discover this a little deeper. For the most part, search trends followed similar patterns from 2004 to 2007 for the keyword “skin care” and “skincare” but then in 2007 when the iPhone was launched the trends started to differ. Why?One of the reasons for this is because the mobile phone market started to explode as well as our use of predictive text and autocorrect. Add on our own personalised dictionary/saved words and this fu…

How to understand the value of content and measure digital emotion

For a lot of marketers, managing the content measurement problem is a continuous challenge. Consumers click through online content while marketers record each click, but what kind of engagement is the content actually attracting? What is the overall impact of the content experience, and how does better measurement determine the strategy for future content marketing investments?Measuring emotional engagement and understanding the value of content requires access to qualitative data and deeper audience insights that go beyond surface metrics like clicks and views. Only qualitative data will enhance our understanding of what is resonating with audiences and where those critical emotional connections exist within the content itself.Collecting qualitative data begins with building a genuine emotional connection with your customers through personalization and interactivity. Customized content, specifically the kind that customers discover themselves (as opposed to the kind marketers push at…

5 damaging mobile engagement mistakes

A couple of weeks back, I sounded the alarm on what my colleagues and I are calling the “Mobile Engagement Crisis.” It’s an industrywide call to arms for marketers to reassess the way they think and act on their mobile strategies in the face of declining retention rates and fickle mobile users.I believe the need for action has come because we are fundamentally flawed in the way we are engaging with our mobile users, leading them to abandon apps after only a handful of uses. We’ve become stuck — comforted by the eponymous statement that “mobile is skyrocketing” — and have failed to capitalize on the things that made mobile great in the first place. However, this didn’t happen overnight; here’s where many marketers have gone wrong:You followed the wrong metricsAs marketers, when we sit in meetings with executives, they say the same thing over and over: Show me the data. And rightfully so. We know the best marketing efforts are tracked, analyzed, tweaked or even tossed out based on the re…

Please do not touch that droid, sir, it is the BreakWinder from the Five Arena Rangers Transcorp. Microsoft had bought the iconic Nokia brand handset business a couple of years ago and now it seems that the ex-Finnish brand will exchange hands once again. 5 Ways To Lift Your Mood When you’re Feeling down

Each one of us experiences a low-phase at some point of time. We place the blame on our circumstances, health or emotional proclivities. The truth is that there is only one person accountable for such bouts of grief, boredom, or depression: YOU!Whenever I ask depressed acquaintances about their low-phase, I receive mixed responses such as:They are sad/bored/depressed because that’s the natural response they should display to the particular situation. They feel low because nothing remarkable is happening in their lives. They are feeling down because their feelings are hurt, and feeling hurt is the obvious reaction after getting hurt, isn’t it?They just want to be left alone in their misery. The only logical conclusion being that they somehow want to feel low.via Melodramatic television, depressing music, unhealthy eating habits, and minimal exercise are directly linked to a person’s mood. The effects of these habits may not be clear immediately, but let them run for a course of time, and …
