Move over, text ads: How data feeds are driving new search experiences

If you haven’t done it already, now would be a great time to take a fresh look — or even a first look — at how data feeds can reinvigorate your online marketing strategy and prepare your business for an undeniable shift in the search space. Structured data feeds are the silent drivers behind a new search experience centered around more conversational, localized and personalized search engagements.Engines are moving away from the “traditional” customer journey, where users search for a keyword, sort through text PPC search results and click onto a new website. Instead, structured data feeds front-load the search engine results pages (SERPs) with user-rich information, creating a new search experience for more personalized, localized and actionable results.Data feed = information busFeeds, simply put, are mechanisms of structured data that enable either a platform or a person to take action. Some of the original uses of feeds were as mechanisms to automate the pulling of information to …

Disney-backed VR startup Littlstar can map where VR, 360-degree video viewers are looking

It’s not hard to call the 360-degree video ABC created for Lexus a success. In the two months since it premiered in early March, it’s racked up more than 2.2 million views on Facebook and almost a half-million on YouTube. But it is hard to know whether people actually noticed the Lexus LX and auto brand’s logo in the branded video. To be fair, aside from eye-tracking studies and brand recall surveys, there isn’t really a way to measure whether people would have seen these brand images in a traditional TV or pre-roll ad. But it’s becoming possible in 360-degree videos and virtual-reality experiences.Disney-based VR startup Littlstar has developed a way to measure where people are looking while immersed in a VR experience or watching a 360-degree video and is mapping those viewing patterns so that content creators and brands can track what is and isn’t grabbing people’s attentions.View post on imgur.comThe technology and more importantly the data it unearths could be a significant cataly…

3 ways to improve B2B lead quality

According to a recent eMarketer article, obtaining high-quality leads continues to be a challenge for B2B marketers. Along with measuring ROI and long sales cycles, difficulty obtaining enough quality leads is a challenge identified by 42 percent of B2B marketers surveyed. What is a quality lead? The definition of lead quality certainly varies. In my experience, the most common requirement is that an acceptable percentage of leads (or inquiries) move through the sales funnel and become “sales opportunities.” In other words, quality leads are those deemed worthy of sales resources and continued outreach/follow-up.Balancing lead volume, cost and qualityB2B lead gen programs always involve a balancing act between lead volume, lead quality and lead cost. Each business needs to figure out the optimal “sweet spot” for these critical metrics while at the same time working to optimize them. Some companies value lead volume above all else. These firms tend to have very robust call centers, large …

Guarantee your marketing automation success with persona-based content

If you really tried to automate all of your marketing, the results would not be good. We have all seen examples of over-engineered, algorithm-based communications, and it always seems to have some element of whatever Hollywood “computers take over the world” scenario is most burned into your brain. Depending on your age, it could be the computer from “WarGames,” “Skynet,” or when the Cylons infiltrated the Colonial fleet.Marketing automation is not science fiction. It is really about adding technology to marketing in smart ways and automating processes that happen in the background, like collecting data or sending emails. If you have ever copied batches of email addresses into the bcc: field in Outlook, you know this is not a good thing. I’m not proud to say I have done that. It was a small company, and it was a long time ago.Marketers who have implemented marketing automation systems understand the importance of personalized messaging because a barrage of nurture emails will only take…

Shhhhh! Don’t tell anyone but SEO tools are great for market research and completely free

SEO isn’t anything new, there are very few people involved in marketing who don’t have some appreciation of how you might need to make an active effort to appeal to the search engines.Despite that awareness, a lot of marketers will have no idea of the great tools that search marketers have on their hands that are great for market research and completely free (or at least freemium). As David Ogilvy said:“If you’re trying to persuade people to do something, or buy something, it seems to me you should use their language, the language they use every day, the language in which they think. We try to write in the vernacular.”It’s easy to take for granted, but when someone goes to a search engine and starts typing they are literally telling you what they want to know. It might be what they want to buy, it might be what they want to research. They’re using their own words and they are telling you exactly what they want. That’s pretty profound, however you look at it.Google have come up with an a…

Chromebook Users Will Now be Able to Choose from 2-Million Google Play Store Apps

Google has been ramping up its Chromebook efforts and now the Google Play Store will finally make an appearance on the Chromebook. This news comes right after Chromebook outsold MacBook’s in US this quarter. The surge in sales is attributed to the US schools who prefer the lite affordable machines for students. Furthermore, the machine has been instantaneous at all the time unlike Windows which takes its own time to boot and shutdown. However, beyond the apparent advantages that come bundled with the Chromebook also came a dearth of apps. Despite the fact that Google Chrome Store already has most of the apps in a lite web version it somehow still crippled the productivity for some. Adding fuel to the fire was the fact that Google were slow in adding codec support and the video player was bare basic. The Playstore support will not only bring in tons of apps for the Chromebook but it will also signal the arrival of Android apps for laptops. Android apps will also add new dimensions of uti…

Scoring on Basics: The Five Reasons for the Chromebook’s Success

The news that Chrome OS devices had outsold Mac OS devices in the US in the first quarter of 2016 lead to a lot of raised eyebrows. To be dreadfully honest, it is not fair to compare an OS whose devices are generally priced in the vicinity of about USD 200 with another whose devices cost about four times as much, but the sales do point to the fact that after a relatively slow start, Chromebooks are slowly becoming a part of mainstream mobile computing. And interestingly, the main reasons for their success have nothing to do with experience, spec sheets or apps, the three perceived pillars of success in the mobile computing space. There is nothing exceptional about the Chromebook experience – it is exactly like using a Chrome browser. You open sites and services on different tabs and browse away. And the hardware that delivers this experience is not much to write home about. In fact, most Chromebooks are relatively lower specced than modern mid-segment smartphones – they come with 720p …
