Why you cannot ignore practitioner listings on Google My Business (case study)

Recently, a dermatologist in Hollywood, Florida, hired us for a consultation. He had three listings on Google My Business and wanted to know how to consolidate them. It turned out he actually had five, and the issues they were causing were a bit worse than he had realized. When we started, I made a full list of his duplicates, and this was what we were looking at:An unverified listing for his practice at an old address with 11 reviews.A verified listing for his practice at the current address with 43 reviews. An unverified listing for a doctor who no longer worked there.Another unverified listing for another doctor who no longer worked there.Another unverified listing for the practice at the current address with two reviews. When he contacted me, he was aware of the three listings for his practice but was unaware of the listings for the two doctors who used to work for him. Many people don’t think to look for these, but this is a huge oversight (as you’ll see with this case study).[Read …

3 retail strategies to beat Amazon this holiday season

It’s that time again. Time for retailers to rally their troops for the end-of-year holiday shopping season, getting strategies and technologies locked in for the critical period that will drive nearly 20 percent of annual retail industry sales. What should retailers plan in 2016?Forecasts so far offer some not-so-great news and some good news. The unfortunate news is that total retail holiday sales are expected to be virtually flat this year, increasing just 1.8 percent, according to eMarketer predictions. The good news for digital marketers is that e-commerce sales are anticipated to increase 13.3 percent over 2015 figures, showing that there are dollars to be won in the online world. But when competing for e-commerce dollars, there’s one factor that can’t be ignored: the online megabeast, Amazon. The challenge Amazon presents to other retailers, especially around the holidays, is perhaps best summed up by Tim Walters in a report (email registration required) by Digital Clarity and Sig…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

No matter the marketing discipline, preparation is a key ingredient for success. That’s the philosophy behind the annual midsummer kickoff of our Marketing Land Holiday Retailer coverage, which brings you the latest news, as well as expert insights — all designed to ensure you’re ready to employ the most effective digital strategies and tactics for the upcoming winter shopping season.Though e-commerce seems like old news — we’ve been buying things online since the ’90s, after all — it’s still changing every day due to new technologies and developments in consumer behavior. And the good news is that it’s continuing to grow.According to US Census Bureau estimates, e-commerce revenues in the first quarter of 2016 increased 15.2 percent from the first quarter of 2015, while total retail sales increased just 2.2 percent in the same period. In Q1, 7.8 percent of total sales took place on electronic platforms. That growth is being driven by many factors, and among them is innovation on the pa…

The 2016 guide to preparing for the holiday rush

It’s that time of year again… well, almost. For e-commerce folks, now is the time to start thinking about the holidays. Let’s take a look at what’s new in 2016 and how you can prepare for the holiday rush.Spotlight for 2016: Mobile growth continuesI would declare this the year of mobile, but that was probably somewhere around 2009. Regardless, there are still significant changes going on in the mobile world that affect your e-commerce strategy.Mobile wallets. Mobile wallets are starting to gain momentum. Third-party payment methods on mobile devices should be attractive to retailers as a means of reducing checkout abandonment.Apple Pay: Apple recently announced that Apple Pay, until now limited to apps, will soon be rolling out to the mobile web. This is a big deal for e-commerce.Amazon Payments: Amazon recently backed out of the e-commerce software game in favor of just facilitating payments. Another great third-party payment option coming from the most trusted name in online retail.…

Holiday marketing: Take some cues from 2015 trends

The 2015 holidays were a boon for digital retailers. For the first time, more people shopped online than in stores between Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend. This shouldn’t come as a surprise; we all know the web is swimming with holiday shoppers. Yet marketers still struggle with getting in front of the right people and winning their attention during the busy shopping period.Magnetic (my employer) and Ipsos polled holiday shoppers in January 2016 and learned a bit more about people’s holiday shopping behaviors: Seventy-nine percent of people surveyed browsed online for gifts, 30 percent researched and made a majority of purchases online, and more than half spent five hours or more shopping on the internet. This is great news for marketers, because the more consumers rely on the internet for their shopping, the greater the chance we have to find, influence and convert them into holiday customers. The key, then, is really in execution.‘Tis the season to get digitalAs marketers plan …

Facebook’s news feed tweak may mean more native videos, fewer links from publishers’ Pages

Facebook execs already believe that people’s news feeds “will be probably all video” in five years. Maybe a lot sooner when it comes to the publisher portion of people’s feeds after Facebook’s latest algorithm change rolls out.Late last month Facebook announced a tweak to the uber-arbiter news feed algorithm that will makes Pages’ organic reach more dependent on people sharing their Page posts. “We encourage Pages to post things that their audience are likely to share with their friends,” Facebook engineering director Lars Backstrom wrote in a company blog post advising Page owners that their organic reach and referral traffic may drop as a result of the change. So what are those “things” for Pages to post that people on Facebook are most likely to share? If you’re a publisher, they appear to be videos people can watch without leaving Facebook way more often than they are links to a publisher’s site, based on Facebook data collected through social news analytics tool NewsWhip.I used Ne…

Asus has now added two more devices dubbed the Zenfone 3 Max and Zenfone 3 Laser to their Zenfone 3 lineup. 6 Reasons You Should Stop Complaining & How Can You Do It

Click To TweetAs we were landing into the mid of an year, like everybody else, I retrospected and reevaluated my last year’s journey. I thought it’s the perfect time to start making the changes which I thought of doing few weeks back or last month or last year. When I brooded about what is that one habit which I want to improve upon and change is, the only thing which came into my mind was to stop complaining. As mindful I strive to be with my words, I always used to end up complaining, be it the weather, job, clothes, relationships, worldly situations, traffic, high prices etc..The list goes on. Have you ever thought of the amount of time you complain in a day.The thing is we have made ourselves so miserable that we end up finding fault and blaming others for our current situation. Think about it: Has complaining solved any of your problems? When we complain about things to our family. frien…

Microsoft Edge is the Only Browser to Stream Netflix at 1080p on Windows

Microsoft Edge Browser has been around for a while, ironically the only scenario where I used Edge Browser was to stream Apple events! That apart Edge Browser was initially riddled with bugs and performance issues bogged it down further. Now this has lead Microsoft to campaign aggressively for the Edge browsers goodwill and the company have been making claims of how the Browser is one of the best in its league.Netflix comes with some niggles and one of the is that you can’t stream videos at 1080p on PC browsers. Microsoft, however, said in a blog post that the Edge Browser can stream the videos at 1080p and further PC World confirmed the same with its tests. At this juncture, Netflix is offering a maximum resolution of 1080p on PC browser while selected few smart TV’s and streaming boxes do get 4K Support. Now while 1080p is doable on PC it kind of hurts to watch in 720p.I guess it is time for us to give Edge browser a shot considering that it is the only browser that offers 1080p str…

Meet DJI Zenmuse Z3, World’s First Drone Camera with Optical Zoom

DJI is a name that needs no introduction, the Phantom Drones have been a benchmark for the industry. However, this time around we are not here to talk about a DJI drone but Zenmuse Z3, the companies first camera with 7x zoom obtained by 3.5x optical zoom and 2x digital zoom. Most of the camera features have been baked into the DJI GO app and it includes the swipe to zoom functionalities as well. The optical zoom is something that the drone cameras were deprived of till now, and taking a close up of a subject meant that one needed to maneuver the drone closer to the subject. Alternatively, one can also broadcast a live feed from the camera. The Zenmuse camera also supports 4k at 30fps and the shots from the 12-Megapixel sensors are in Adobe DNG RAW format. Thankfully the Zenmuse camera also comes with a gimbal setup for stabilization function and users will also get a fine-tuning option to control the Yaw of the Z3 in order to balance out the effects of zooming in.The Zenmuse camera is m…
