Samsung Unveils Gear S3 Smartwatch with Standalone GPS and LTE

Samsung’s Gear series has brought us was one of the most well-received smartwatch lineups in the market. Today, at IFA 2016 event held in Berlin, the Korean company is extending the legacy by launching the third generation upgrade, Gear S3. The Gear S3 is mostly an incremental refinement over the S2, however, there are two big changes: It’s a lot chunkier and comes with LTE as well as dedicated GPS. Also, there are two variants this time with minimal differences – Classic and Frontier. Other than the design, the Frontier edition includes LTE.For starters, the new Gear S3 features a slightly bigger 46mm casing and a 1.3-inch display (360 x 360 resolution) compared to 44mm and 1.2-inches on the S2. Samsung says the big size allows them to add core essentials customers desire from a smarter watch and it’s “on trend in the luxury watch space right now.” In terms of design and build, the Classic variant is built using stainless steel and flaunts a polished silver look. A CMO’s View: Conservation International’s influencer marketing gives nature a familiar voice

As CMO, Meg Goldthwaite says she considers herself Conservation International’s chief storyteller.“What’s truly important from a marketing standpoint is that you are able to connect your donors, or in other instances your customers, with the dollars that they spend, and in our case, with the life that’s changed,” says Goldthwaite.“We do that through stories. We demonstrate how important nature is to livelihoods, and I help bring those stories out that communicate how Conservation International is protecting nature and giving nature a voice.”In October of 2014, the organization launched the first of its “Nature Is Speaking” video series – a star-studded influencer marketing campaign that includes high-profile celebrities like Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Ed Norton, Penélope Cruz and Robert Redford.“When people hear Julia Roberts as Mother Nature, it goes into their being,” says Goldthwaite.“They’ve been listening to that incredible voice for such a long time, and it’s had such an emo…

Moving your SEO program beyond discovery

With over 3.5 billion searches per day, it’s no secret that search engines like Google have become a key place for consumers to find products and services. It’s the reason people like me have a job!The majority of companies looking to start a new SEO program would like to improve their overall search presence, increase brand visibility and drive new visits.Pay attention to that last piece — new visits. While new visits are important, when it comes to purchasing decisions, most people visit a site more than once. In fact, according to a recent report by Webloyalty and Conlumino, the average consumer consults about five channels before making a purchase, meaning the people converting are likely going to be return visitors. As SEOs, it’s important not to get hung up on optimizing only for new visits. We also must focus on the buying cycle itself to ensure we are giving our customers the information they are looking for when doing their longer-term research. We also must think beyond new cus…

From the Editor’s Desk: Blab is dead; long live our new podcast!

There are probably countless articles on Marketing Land (and Search Engine Land) that encourage readers not to put all of their marketing eggs in one basket. And I know that message has been drilled home countless times over the years by speakers at our SMX conferences. Yet, here we were a couple weeks ago, scrambling to come up with a Plan B for our weekly Marketing Land Live video show after Blab closed its doors. It felt, at least immediately, like we had put all our eggs in the Blab basket only to watch it taken away without warning. The dust has settled now and we’ve found our Plan B: Marketing Land Live is now an audio-only podcast! We just made it official with last week’s episode, which was a great conversation about Google’s “intrusive interstitials” penalty, AdSense changes and more with Ginny Marvin, Barry Schwartz and me.I invite you to subscribe to our podcast via iTunes, SoundCloud or Google Play Podcasts. Below, I’ll talk more about what to expect from our new podcast, b…

Pinterest will target ads to people who click on, save brand-related pins

Pinterest wants brands to feel like they already have an attentive audience to advertise to on its platform. So after adding the ability for brands to retarget people who visit their sites and use their apps with ads on Pinterest, the company is now introducing a way for brands to advertise to people who click on or save brand-related pins that are posted to Pinterest.“Engagement data [like pin clicks and saves] show much higher intent and are more valuable than simply liking a page or following a brand’s account,” said Pinterest product manager Frank Fumarola.According to Pinterest, people who have interacted with a brand-related pin, such as by clicking on it, within the past 30 days are 2.2 times more likely to buy a product from that brand than people who don’t interact with a pin related to that brand. Considering that 75% of the pins on Pinterest are brand-related, like pins linking to product pages, Pinterest thinks it offers brands a lot of opportunities to attract actual cust…

A Better Method for Embedding YouTube Videos on your Website

It is easy to embed a YouTube video but you’ll be surprised to know how much extra weight that embedded YouTube video can add to your web pages. The browser has to download about half a Mb of extra JavaScript files (see screenshot) for rendering the YouTube video player alone. And these files are downloaded even if the visitor never plays the embedded video. The embedded video not only increases the byte size of your web pages but the browser has to make multiple HTTP requests to render the video player. This increases the overall loading time of your page thus affecting the page speed score. The other drawback with the default YouTube embed code is that it isn’t responsive. If people view your website on a mobile phone, the video player may not resize properly for the small screen.Embed YouTube Videos without Increasing Page SizeGoogle+ uses a clever technique for embedding YouTube videos – it just embeds the thumbnail image of a YouTube video and the actual video player is loaded onl…

The future of email marketing is already here

You know, we email marketers can be a pretty conservative lot. There are good reasons for that.First, the limitations of email standards and client software mean we don’t often get to push the envelope, technically speaking. Moreover, we’re an empirically minded bunch, so we tend to iterate and fine-tune what’s worked for us in the past. And maybe most of all, we know that any radical change to our sending and content practices introduces a real risk of deliverability challenges. When our businesses depend on staying on the good side of the inbox, it’s understandable we often default to the attitude “once bitten, twice shy.”So a lot of email marketing sticks very closely to the established playbook. Why would someone want to rock the tried-and-true? You’ve seen these down-the-middle campaigns time and time again, and it might seem like their formulaic approaches aren’t going to change any time soon.At the same time, even the stodgiest email marketer among us has become enamored, even i…

How to overcome the hardest parts of curating content for thought leadership

Curating content can have a huge impact on your personal brand and thought leadership credibility. By repackaging and posting superb, fresh and memorable content produced by others within your industry, you’re able to position yourself as an in-the-know influencer yourself, share new ideas, expose your perspective to new audiences and build relationships with like-minded industry players.People from large and small businesses alike have harnessed the power of other people’s content to build brand equity, with 80 percent of marketers depending on curation tactics to improve company visibility and nearly a third sharing curated content on a daily basis.Of course, there are some major pitfalls and challenges involved with curating, too. When sharing links to third-party sites, aspiring thought leaders run the risk of losing audience members to other brands. Even the best online tools have been known to push out irrelevant or otherwise low-quality links, making it difficult to consistentl…
