Why it’s time to re-evaluate your AdWords account structure

We’re now seeing many of the changes AdWords announced in May rolling out to all accounts. This is great news in terms of enabling new opportunities, but it’s bad news if you thought your account was perfectly structured. While each new feature will work just fine with your current account structure, your setup may no longer be the most efficient — so now may be a great time to revisit the AdWords account structure debate. I’ll cover how each of the new features may change your opinion on the right structure for an AdWords account.Expanded text ads (ETAs)All accounts now have the capability to create ETAs. Because results have been mixed, as reported by Andy Taylor and Ginny Marvin, I recommend not removing legacy ads — for now, at least. While Google has announced a firm date when it will no longer be possible to create legacy ads (October 26, 2016), they have not announced when legacy ads will no longer be served. So, if legacy ads sometimes outperform your new ads, there’s no rush t…

Influencer marketing: You’re doing it all wrong

Once upon a time, great brand strategists understood that one of the best ways to reach consumers was through the people they love and align with.At its core, it’s a great idea! Get leaders, celebrities or someone with an audience you want to reach to talk about your brand and influence their fans to check you out.The rise of social media made it even easier to tap into these influencer networks as brands and agencies had to do less detective work; it became relatively easy to find people online who appear to have vast influence based solely on numbers of fans and followers. And this is where it all went wrong. Instead of focusing on the right influencers and really digging into their audience, it became about sheer numbers.Influencer marketing has become a very misunderstood and expensive strategy that is not always effective; in fact, it can often end up missing the mark (and your audience, not to mention ROI) by a mile.In an effort to grab a piece of the action, agencies have starte…

Local citations are dead; long live local citations!

In June, we published a large statistical study on how Google’s local algorithm works. The study data suggested that citations did not appear to correlate with good local rankings.Seems like just yesterday Moz local guru David Mihm called out that local citations were in fact the new link. The TL;DR was that Google was likely using mentions of a business’s information on “local documents,” which Google’s patents defined as documents that are:associated with a particular geographic area […]. A document that relates to a business listing, for example, can be considered a local document because it is associated with the particular address of the business. […] A document … may mention a business at the location, the address of the business, and/or a telephone number associated with the business. In the early days of Google Places/+Local/My Business, it was likely helpful for Google to use local citations as a partial proxy for links, as most local businesses had few or no backlinks. This s…

Turing, a company that rose to fame with their outlandish device curved out of Liquid Morphium is back in business again. Well, this time around their upcoming smartphone dubbed Turing Phone Cadenza is even more outlandish. Rather you would be amazed to hear the specs, as they just too good to be true.In a newsletter sent to various publications worldwide, Turing Robotics Industries (TRI) CEO, Steve Chao revealed the details of the company’s upcoming project – a smartphone with deep integration of artificial intelligence. Just in case Turing succeeds to pull this off, we may in for something revolutionary. That said, the specs of the Turing Cadenza are something that would draw your attention immediately.Turing Cadenza is said to sport a 5.8 inch QHD display upfront and will be powered by not one but two Snapdragon 830 SoCs (does that even in works yet?) Well, it still isn’t clear what made Turing opt for dual SD830s, as even one could have done the job quite nicely without any hiccup…

Looking beyond the holiday purchase: understanding customer lifetime value

The ideal brand relationship is much more than a single experience. It comprises multiple experiences and events that tie the consumer to that specific brand. That brand becomes the go-to for purchasing the perfect birthday gift or the top destination for booking a much-needed getaway.Analyzing each of these brand interactions beyond the user’s first purchase allows advertisers to properly understand the complete customer journey. With the holiday season upon us, it’s time marketers moved beyond the basics of attribution and focused on long-term optimization, based on customer lifetime value (CLV). The powerful business intelligence that can be derived from analyzing the user journeys of your customers over an extended period, beyond what they bought on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, is essential to knowing how to maximize future marketing investments to meet your evolving business goals.Customer lifetime valueIn some marketing circles, customer lifetime value is defined as the process …

Five most important search marketing news stories of the week

Welcome to our weekly round-up of all the latest news and research from around the world of search marketing and beyond. This week has been a little quiet here in the UK. Mainly because of the bank holidays, but also because nobody could bear to be in an office because it’s too damn hot – but let’s see what we can find anyway…Bing Network reaches 20% market share in the UKBing has announced that it has surpassed 20% market share in the UK, according to latest comScore figures. This increases its share of the search market to one in five UK searches. Battery Issues Force Samsung to Recall Galaxy Note 7 Globally

It was a couple of days ago that the internet was ablaze with the news that several Samsung Galaxy Note 7s had caught fire while charging. It is now that Samsung has officially released a statement that they will be recalling the devices already sold and also the one at the retailers. The company upon investigation deduced that the fire was because of a faulty battery/battery system.Samsung had received an overwhelming response to the Note 7 which was touted to have one of the best combination of hardware in the premium smartphone segment. In fact, Samsung has reportedly sold 2.5 million of the Note 7s which also translates that the recall is not going to be easy and very well be one of the largest product recall by the Korean company. This also comes down as an embarrassment for Samsung which has been closely competing with Apple’s iPhone and had been doing well so far. However, Samsung claims that the number of devices is not so large and only 24 devices have been affected for every …

Analyzing the Reliance Jio Tariff Plans

After years of waiting, on September 1st, 2016, Reliance unveiled Jio in all its glory. The 42nd RIL AGM was a super hit and this must be the first time that people so keenly watched an AGM which is otherwise a dull event only watched by some shareholders, analysts etc. The excitement regarding the launch of Jio was through the roof. The only thing that can rival or command the same type of excitement are usually the Apple events.During the event, Mukesh Ambani gave a lot of details such as Jio’s coverage, Digital Life etc. But honestly, the only thing that the telecom fans and the broader general public wanted to know was what the tariffs were. The Jio tariffs were revealed yesterday which left many people awe-struck initially. I have covered most aspects of Jio in the past, but tariff was something I could never cover. In this article, I’ll to dig deep and analyze the implications of Reliance Jio’s tariff plans.1. Makes the voice market redundantDespite data/mobile internet commandi…

How to boost sales by improving your trust signals

It’s obvious that the internet has a conversion problem, and many businesses are constantly evolving ways to better convert traffic they get.In this quest, they consider things like A/B testing, changing button color, having a more persuasive copy, etc. They often ignore what is perhaps the most important factor that drives every transaction: TRUST.If people do not trust your brand, your conversions will suffer no matter how persuasive your copy is.Thankfully, it is easy to get people to trust your brand more by working on trust signals. Here are three things research has shown to work really well for building trust.Using security sealsOne of the most effective ways to boost sales and conversions on your website is by using security trust seals.Just recently, news broke out that some of the biggest social media sites have been hacked – including LinkedIn and Twitter – resulting in hundreds of millions of personal data being exposed.Naturally, people are more careful – especially when …
