Snapchat adopts Facebook-style ad targeting like email, mobile device matching

Snapchat is rolling out new ad targeting options that challenge its anti-creepy advertising stance and could be used to execute the type of retargeting that Snapchat really doesn’t like.Snapchat is beginning to let brands aim their ads at the mobile app’s 150-million-large daily audience based on those people’s email addresses and the unique advertising identifiers attached to their phones as well as to people who share characteristics with that defined audience. And more old-school advertisers will now be able to target ads based on content-based audience categories, like people who are into gaming, music, sports, beauty or technology. The three new ad targeting options — Snap Audience Match, Lookalikes and Snapchat Lifestyle Categories — will be available for anywhere its vertical video Snap Ads can run, such as in between people’s Stories, within Live Stories or within Discover channels. Top 10 essentials for SEO reporting

Measurement is an imperative element of all marketing activity. Not only do we need to understand the commercial impact of the activity we are undertaking in order to learn and optimise, but our client/business must also see the value being driven over time.Reporting is the collation of this measurement into a tangible view of performance and results, so it’s imperative that you’re reporting in the right way.To help with this I have created a simple SEO reporting template (registration required) to help us focus on the key elements of showing value from organic.Ultimately, any report needs to focus on the KPIs through which your client or business is measuring the organic channel. The KPIs may be engagement-based, or commercial, for example. These KPIs, and their associated targets, will of course vary from business to business and client to client, however there are core organic metrics that show how SEO is driving impact. In addition to KPIs, it is always worth expanding your reporting…

Optimizing your blog for the social and mobile reader

We live in an attachment society. Take a look around any coffee shop, restaurant, park or mall, and you’ll see people’s noses glued to their smartphone screens. These people aren’t making phone calls. They’re consuming content and interacting with the digital universe from just about anywhere. And it’s dangerous. Overuse of mobile devices is causing people’s sleep patterns to be disrupted, dizziness, headaches and so much more.Still, despite the dangers, people still use their smartphone religiously. As a business, this behavior is one to capitalize on.But if your company’s website and blog aren’t set up to be mobile- and social media-friendly, you could be missing out on some big-time traffic.More than half of Google searches are done from a mobile device.Nearly 900 million people access Facebook only via their smartphone. It’s clear there’s a convergence of search, social and mobile behaviors, so what can your business do to capitalize on it? OnePlus Announces VoLTE Update for OnePlus 2

Thanks to Reliance Jio, customers are considering VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) a crucial feature in smartphones. While most newly released handsets support HD calling, a year or two old devices are being left out. Fortunately, VoLTE is something that can be added through an over-the-air update if that particular phone includes the required hardware. As a result, OnePlus, as promised, will be soon rolling out an update for its OnePlus 2 smartphone which will enable VoLTE.In a forum post, OnePlus mentioned that they’ll be releasing the update to the masses in the next quarter. The update is as of now, limited to OnePlus 2, although OnePlus One and X users might also soon receive it. Until then, non-supported handsets will have to use the Jio4GVoice app (previously Jio Join) in order to make high-definition calls over Jio 4G network in India. Their OnePlus 3 flagship phone supports the functionality out-of-the-box though. OnePlus does deserve praise for not leaving out their older devices, whe…

7 advanced tips for Google Shopping ads

Have you ever been frustrated by the lack of control you have over a Google Shopping campaign? With the holidays creeping up on us, now is the time to make those shopping changes that move the needle.I’ve put together a list of seven tips to bring your shopping campaigns to the next level.Tip #1: Use the multiple-campaign method to bucket keywordsThis is probably the single best upgrade I’ve made over the past years in how we manage shopping campaigns at Ripen, my employer. The method was originally pioneered by Martin Roettgerding on his blog, but a step-by-step guide can be found here. While I do recommend reading that article in full, I’ll review the basic premise. At its core, it utilizes negative keywords and campaign priority. AdWords will serve a high-priority campaign above a medium-priority campaign. Same goes for medium- and low-priority campaigns. So, you create three shopping campaigns with different priorities.High-priority campaign — This campaign will trigger ads for all …

The genius of easy-click emails

Like hundreds of thousands of other travelers, I was a victim of the Delta flight fiasco in early August. After a day filled with flight cancellations and an alternate booking with WestJet, I checked my inbox and discovered an email from Expedia asking me to rate my experience. The email was simple and elegant and consisted of just five words: “Happy with your WestJet Trip?” Below the text were oversized images of a smiley face (green) and a frowny face (red), inviting me to respond. At the end of a long day, the Expedia email was a breath of fresh air because it showed me something I hadn’t seen before: the genius of easy-click emails. What is an easy-click email? An easy-click email is an email marketing device that drives conversions by simplifying the user response. Instead of overwhelming users with copy and a complex menu of options, easy-click emails plainly and clearly present a single question and two or three visual responses.Easy-click emails make it convenient for users to re…

Oh the Irony! AdBlock Plus Now Sells Ads on its Platform

AdBlock Plus is undoubtedly one of the most criticized and yet most used ad-blocking tool available on the internet with about 100 Million active users. However, today the company is taking a substantial step forward with the launch of a new advertising platform that will allow publishers or any websites for that matter, display specific advertisements from a filtered set of what they call “less-annoying” ads for free. The “Acceptable Ads Platform”, as Eyeo (the parent company) likes to call it, will let website owners to replace the existing ads with the so-called “acceptable ads”. These advertisements won’t be blocked by Adblock when a user visits the particular page. Eyeo previously had such program for whitelisted ads, although, it was quite limited and time-consuming. People who don’t have Adblock installed will be treated with the standard advertisements, hence their experience will be unaltered basically.Acceptable Ads essentially contains a filtered collection of ads from Googl…
