Latest Swiftkey Android Update Integrates Neural Networks for Smarter Predictions

Third-party keyboards on Android have pretty much followed a standard approach for predicting what you’re going to type next all these years. The usual method involves analyzing the last couple of words you typed or your saved history and suggest matched results based on that. However, Swiftkey, the six-year-old company which now works under Microsoft, is about to change how these applications function. The latest Swiftkey update on Android has replaced the outdated probability-based algorithm with artificial neural networks.Back in last year October, Swiftkey unveiled an experimental application that was entirely developed through artificial networks that were designed to predict what you’re going to type next based on the context instead of what you typed a second ago. Now, after months of testing and changes, the main Swiftkey app has been reengineered by implementing those networks at the core for providing smarter and more importantly, natural recommendations. To be slightly more…

Adobe Target expands beyond A/B testing to automated optimization of user experience

Adobe is today evolving its Target solution — part of its Marketing Cloud — away from the testing of discrete A/B variables and toward automated optimization of entire user experiences.A new Auto-Target capability extends machine learning-powered, automated optimization across the entire tool, beyond its previous role as a separately available function for specific locations in sites and apps.In a blog post announcing the enhancement, Senior Product Marketing Manager Jason Hickey wrote that Target users can now set up automated personalization “in the same simple way they’d set up an A/B test.”“By simply clicking ‘Auto-Target’ on step two of our three-step guided workflow,” he said, “marketers will be enabling a powerful personalization engine to determine the right experience to serve an individual.”Previously, marketers might use Target to test two or more variables through a rules-based process. Usually, the testing was focused on offers, such as whether a 50 percent-off coupon wou…

Common PPC mistakes and how to avoid them

I was once asked to list my favorite PPC mistakes. To me, this seemed like a contradiction in terms; I don’t hold any of the mistakes I’ve made in particularly high regard. Twitter now lets brands say when they’re available to respond to tweets

rvlsoft / Shutterstock.com Twitter is playing catch-up with Facebook once again when it comes to becoming brands’ favored social platform for customer service.Businesses’ Twitter profiles can now display the hours that a company is available to respond to people’s tweets — such as “24/7” or “4am-11pm” — and feature a button people can click to send it a direct message. Facebook rolled out similar features for Pages last year.Unlike Twitter’s version, Facebook lets Pages define how quick they are to respond — such as “within minutes” or “within a day” — and supplements that Page-provided information with its own “very responsive” badge for Pages that respond to 90% of messages within 5 minutes of receiving them. Twitter doesn’t offer such a badge that can validate a brand account’s availability or have a way to ensure that businesses adhere to their defined availability hours.Brands’ Twitter profiles can display their hours of availability and a button to direct message them. Twitter is …

6 quick steps to jump-start your influencer marketing program

First things first. We all know “influencer” is a goofy term. It’s probably second in overused buzzwords, right after “thought leader.” Whose thoughts are being led? Are we saying that person leads a thought? Could an inanimate object, like a painting or brick be a “thought leader” if it provokes a new and exciting thought?Influencers are your friends. They’re your customers, your peers, your partners, your affiliates, your own employees. Anyone who has something nice to say or interesting to showcase about your company is an influencer.Influencer marketing shows that your brand is a trusted and respected leader in your space, whether you’re a B2B SaaS (Software as a Service) company, a medical device manufacturer or an auto shop. And you don’t need to have Kardashian-level influencers (and paychecks) to build a great influencer marketing program. On average, influencer marketing returns $6.85 for every dollar. And it costs next to nothing to get started. Here are six quick steps to cre…

Adblock Plus gets into the ad business with launch of RTB platform

Adblock Plus, one of the most popular ad blocking add-ons for browsers, is getting into the ad business with the launch of a new marketplace that allows publishers and advertisers to buy and sell ads that are not subject to ad blocking. The marketplace is an extension of Adblock Plus’ Acceptable Ads initiative, which was launched in 2011.That initiative gives publishers and advertisers the ability to, for a fee, work with Adblock Plus to whitelist ads that meet certain criteria.Among other things, Acceptable Ads must be clearly distinguishable as advertising, can’t disrupt a user’s natural reading flow and must not exceed certain sizes or contain animation.Because of the investment required, both in terms of time and cost, Acceptable Ads adoption has reportedly been mixed. Some publishers also object to the Acceptable Ads concept on principle, seeing it as a “protection racket.”With the Acceptable Ads Platform, which Adblock Plus developed in partnership with ComboTag, Adblock Plus cla…

What’s New in iOS 10? Ten Features to Try Out!

So, what’s so new?”We wish we had a penny for every time we have been asked that question every time someone has updated their device to a new version of an OS. Yes, there is the usual bug-busting and the ironing out of rough spots and “performance enhancements”, but when a major OS update is rolled out, the first thing that most people want to know is what exactly is new about it. And new in terms of UI and features that can actually be noticed, rather than some “behind the scenes” magic or something that is understandable only by the geek squad. So if you have updated your device to iOS 10 and are wondering what is noticeably new about it, just check out the following ten features and reassure yourself that “yep, this is a new OS after all”:iMessage Magic: Perhaps the most obvious change in day to day usage. Apple has clearly decided to take on the likes of Snapchat in the messaging department, which is why the app now comes with a truckload of new features including sending message…

How the ‘average user’ has ruined e-commerce experiences

As consumers, we understand that every website we visit, as well as every interaction experienced on that site, is delivered as the result of untold hours of behind-the-scenes work.No website is an accident; everything has been tested thoroughly to deliver optimal outcomes, especially in online retail. The problem is that so much of the thinking that goes into these tests is based on an outdated mindset around an “average user” and what that theoretical user is going to like, click on or buy when they arrive at the site. While the data and analytics may show averages, there is no real, definable “average consumer.” Therefore, building around the average is a less-than-optimal way to construct a site experience. The ‘Super Pareto’Everyone is familiar with the Pareto principle, better known as the 80–20 rule. Today, some leading online retailers may be seeing a new “Super Pareto” emerging, where typically fewer than five percent of the users contribute more than 90 percent of the revenue. …

Seven influencer marketing strategies that work

As influencer marketing grows in popularity, we’re also seeing it become increasingly commoditized. We’re seeing marketplaces auctioning off influencers with the largest following to the highest bidder. And networks “matching” brands with any influencer they have available. This commoditization eliminates the human matchmaking element. Taking away the smart brand match detracts from the meaningful engagement that influencer marketing can create. This over-emphasis on making influencer marketing a ‘scalable’ tactic is resulting in spammy posts. Like the examples we’ve seen from Scott Disick…You can avoid these pitfalls and find authentic success with your influencer marketing efforts by following some simple strategies.1) Do it for the right reasonsThe first step is to make sure that you’re entering the influencer marketing world for the right reasons.Too many brands jump into influencer marketing because of the trend’s popularity. Influencer marketing’s purpose should be authentic storyt…

Microsoft Windows 10 Store now Includes Desktop Applications

Unveiled originally alongside Windows 8, Microsoft has always pushed its universal apps agenda through the Windows store. However, the marketplace didn’t appeal to the crowd which was looking for standalone desktop applications instead of touch-friendly ones. Today, the Redmond giant has finally altered how the store works and now, any third-party developer can port their apps or games to the universal platform and directly benefit from a series of APIs such as live tiles, Cortana and more.To begin with, Microsoft has managed to rope in a bunch of leading companies and desktop apps for Evernote, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro, Relab, Arduino IDE, Virtual Robotics Kit and a couple others are now available in the store for you to download. Along with the Windows 10 Anniversary update, Microsoft released a straightforward SDK for developers to enable and update their desktop apps to be compatible with store’s requirements, Desktop Bridge. The “Desktop App Converter” itself is now available in the …

First iPhone 7 TVC: Why so Grim and Gritty, Apple?

Mention the words “iPhone ad” and it is a fair chance that most minds will conjure up something with great imagery, gentle music, and soft colours (most of which are on the lighter side), topped off with maybe a touch or two of humor, all designed to leave you with a pleasant, warm, fizzy feeling, not dissimilar to that which you get when you see a Chris Columbus (Home Alone, remember?) film.So you can imagine how we felt when we saw the new iPhone 7 ad which went online yesterday – it was akin to walking into a theatre to see a new Home Alone and then getting hit by a new version of Blair Witch. Or picking up a PG Wodehouse book only to find pages from the Game of Thrones. Or wait, final simile – going to watch a Adam West Batman series and instead getting chucked into the Chris Nolan Dark Knight trilogy. For, let’s get this clear, the new iPhone 7 ad is perhaps the most edgy, gothic marketing video we have seen from the company. Ever. There is zero color – a tribute perhaps to the re…
