How to take advantage of Facebook Video’s creative opportunities

We are living in a video-first world , where moving images are at the heart of all apps and services. Facebook recorded an increase of 800% in video consumption from 2015 to 2016, jumping from 1 billion views to 8 billion views in just a year. During Social Media Week , Ian Crocombe, Regional Head of Facebook’s Creative Shop presented all the opportunities that video content may offer, both for publishers and advertisers on Facebook. Moving from TV to social media Video ads on Facebook are different from the ones we knew on TV, and they also lead to a different behaviour from the audience. Moreover, users have a shorter attention span when using their mobile devices, which also requires a different perspective when creating a video. This creates the need for brands to adjust their content when they have to transfer their message from TV and traditional marketing to social media and Facebook in particular. Adjusting content for Facebook videos Facebook’s Creative Shop aims to h

Moto Z and Moto G4 Series to get Android Nougat Update in Q4 2016

L enovo-owned Motorola has confirmed that Android Nougat will be available for their Moto Z and Moto G4 smartphone lineup later this year. According to Droid Life , Moto will begin rolling out the over-the-air update somewhere in Q4 2016 i.e. between October and December for the Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Play, Moto G4, or Moto G4 Plus . However, the availability may vary depending on your region and we can expect them to complete the process by January next year. Furthermore, handsets from last year such as the Moto X family and Moto G third generation will have to wait a little longer as the spokesperson states they don’t want to hinder users’ experience by ruining the performance or battery life that happened with Marshmallow. For any future updates, you can keep an eye on Motorola’s updates page . Given the stock interface Motorola includes on their smartphones, we’re sure they’ll be the first one to get the update as soon as it is available. Also Read:   Six Android Nougat

LeEco Max 2 Price Dropped to Rs 17,999 in India

I n a surprising move, LeEco India has dropped the price of the LeEco Le Max 2 to Rs 17,999 in India. The announcement comes just after the launch of Lenovo Z2 Plus which was also launched at Rs 17,999 for the 3GB RAM variant, and right in time for the festive season in India. The new pricing will go live on October 1st. LeEco has also announced that the phones will not be exclusive to Flipkart anymore and will be made available on Amazon India and Snapdeal as well starting from Oct 1, 2016. It’s not clear which variant of Le Max2 is priced at Rs 17,999. We assume it’s the 32GB storage/4GB RAM variant which was launched at Rs 22,999 back in June this year. For the uninitiated, the Le Max2 comes equipped with a larger 5.7-inch QHD bezel-less display and is powered by the mighty Snapdragon 820 which is in turn paired with 6GB/4GB of RAM. The graphics department is handled by the Adreno 530. The storage on the Le Max 2 supports UFS 2.0 standards which literally translates into better t

5 Ws of the sharing economy: How social data gives marketers a competitive edge

Not long ago, when you needed a ride in your city, you’d call a cab — completely unaware the market could offer another option. When you were booking a place to stay for an upcoming trip, your mind probably wouldn’t wander beyond the idea of a hotel. Today, however, the sharing economy is so deeply entrenched in major industries and consumers’ lifestyles that it’s almost hard to remember life before Uber and Airbnb. Multiple factors played a role in this cultural takeover: the reasons why mainstream consumers engage with sharing-economy businesses, how different demographics perceive the trend, and the growing competition between traditional organizations and sharing-economy alternatives. To capitalize on trends and thrive in the modern business landscape, marketers need to understand and accommodate these elements. Luckily, there’s an in-depth record of the “who, what, when, where and why” factors that drive this economy’s growth: social media data. Who are the major vendor and c

The truth behind McDonald’s ice cream conspiracy theory and other brand myths

Conspiracy theories can be fun. Why haven’t humans been back to the moon since 1972? How could one person have possibly written all of Shakespeare? Didn’t someone just see Elvis alive and well outside a Vegas lunch buffet? What’s fun about these theories is when they take on a life of their own as urban legends. What’s not so fun is when these urban legends have a negative impact on your business. One such urban legend is “The Great McDonald’s Soft-Serve Ice Cream Conspiracy Theory of 2016.” According to data from Quantifind (my employer), over the last 12 months, social conversations among people who eat at McDonald’s has grown 70 percent more likely to include complaints about customer service. And hands-down, the most common complaint is, by far, the broken ice cream machines. The sentiment is downright frosty. And compared to last year, McDonald’s buyers have become 75 percent more likely to complain about the machines. Broken ice cream machines are now the most common complai

Reliance Launches New Jio Dongle 2 Wi-Fi at Rs 1,999

R eliance Jio has been the buzzword ever since it was launched in India with offerings like free call and internet for the next three months the Jio SIM has been selling like hot cakes. In fact, the Jio is in so much demand that most of the retailers are running out of SIM card stock. As one might be aware Jio has segregated its offering into two categories one for 4G LTE phone users and the other for 4G WiFi hotspot users. Last time around we had reported how Reliance had silently introduced a new OLED JioFi 4G Hotspot through its Digital and Xpress Mini stores and now it seems that Reliance has launched a Wi-Fi dongle that comes sans the battery. The Jio Dongle 2 resembles a run of the mill Wi-Fi Dongle and it comes with a retractable USB connector. Packed in a cylindrical box the Jio Dongle 2 is selling at the same price as the JioFi 2 but comes without a battery pack and needless to say is more compact than the former.  The Jio Dongle 2 is currently retailing at Rs 1999 and it l

More online product searches start on Amazon than Google

Search traffic is of course vital for online retailers, but a new survey finds that more people use Amazon as the first port of call when looking for products. The second annual State of Amazon study by BloomReach found that 55% of consumers start their online product searches on Amazon, compared to 28% who opt for a search engine. The survey of 2,000 US consumers found that Amazon’s share of the action was up 11% year on year, and the figures down for search engines and other retailers. The retailer’s reputation for price-competitiveness, (as well as the fact that it sells just about everything) means it’s the go-to destination for comparison shopping. 90% of consumers will check Amazon even if they’ve found their product elsewhere . 78% of these shoppers do this ‘often’ or ‘always’. It works both ways though, with 70% checking products they’ve found on Amazon on other ecommerce sites.   Mobile shopping habits The study also looked at shopping habits on mobile devices. Amaz

Why contextual campaigns provide value across the enterprise

Together we’ve looked at why context is digital marketing’s next frontier . Since then, I’ve delved further into the topic, publishing research that looks at the value of marketing in the “phytigal” world we now inhabit, where things are as connected as devices are. Beacons, sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) are moving marketing past the screen to the objects, places, and even the conditions (weather, holidays, sales) we occupy and experience in the real world. Contextual campaigns go well beyond “the right message to the right person at the right time.” Location , for example, plays a role. Automotive dealerships are using beacons to determine which customers visit the showroom versus the service department, enabling them to connect contextually in the right way, with the right messages, based on hyper-granular location data. All of this is super-cool, of course, but what are the actual benefits of contextual campaigns, not only to marketers but also to the organizations th

How PPC brand protection can increase clicks by 34%

Brand protection is changing. Are you keeping up? If you have a brand worth protecting, competitors are already  bidding on your brand name . Some bid directly on your name, while others will bid on obvious brand-plus derivatives, such as when GEICO bids on phrases like “Progressive insurance” (and vice versa). As you can see for the keyword “geico insurance,” AIS, FreeQuotes365 and Mercury Insurance are aggressively buying that keyword, too. If you have a trademark or brand name that drives search volume, it will be one of your more profitable campaigns. Unfortunately, it is one of the important PPC campaigns for your affiliates, resellers and competitors too. Larry Kim, CTO of WordStream, discussed this topic in his article on how companies often make deals with each other to avoid bidding on each other’s terms . The article shows how a focus on protecting branded campaigns leads to less competition and lower costs. I’m going to show you a process (with a case study) of how to

Facebook’s advertiser count surpasses 4 million brands with 20% buying video ads

Back in March 2016, you might remember Facebook announcing that 3 million businesses actively advertise on its social network. Well, now that number is 4 million. That’s 1 million advertisers added in less than seven months. For comparison Facebook’s main current rival in the social advertising space, Twitter, claimed more than 130,000 advertisers in the fourth quarter of 2015 (Facebook’s real main rival, Google, no longer says how many advertisers it has). And Facebook-owned Instagram announced last week that more than 500,000 brands buy its ads each month, up from 200,000-plus in February 2016. In addition to Facebook’s advertiser base growing, the role of mobile for those advertisers is growing as well — but in a different way than you might expect. You already know that more than  four-fifths of Facebook’s advertising revenue is from ads shown on smartphones and tablets , but did you know that 40% of Facebook’s active advertisers have created an ad using a smartphone or table

Salesforce launches its Commerce Cloud

In June, Salesforce announced it was buying e-commerce platform Demandware and creating a Commerce Cloud. Today, the marketing/sales tech giant launched the new cloud, which already has 1800 commerce sites spread out over more than four dozen countries, including Adidas, Lands’ End, and Pandora. Interestingly, the platform is built for physical stores as well as for online, which gives Salesforce a firm position straddling the two worlds. The creation of integrated experiences that span retailers’ online and real-world selves is one of the major competitive fronts for marketing and sales vendors. As Salesforce noted in its announcement, about 90 percent of all purchases are still made in brick-and-mortar stores. Shelley Bransten, SVP of Retail at Salesforce, told me that Commerce Cloud can be white-labeled and fully branded by a retailer. As an example of a retailer that is integrated with Salesforce’s other clouds, Bransten cited Amsterdam-based Suitsupply, a men’s fashion brand

How to Schedule Uber Rides

O ne of the biggest downsides of being an Uber user up until now was the inability to pre-book rides for later. As a result, planning a morning flight or book a taxi for an extremely time-sensitive task was never reliable with Uber before. Almost every other cab hailing service such as Ola has been providing this functionality for ages, however, now Uber is also rolling out the much-awaited scheduling feature across various regions. Here’s how you can use it. First and foremost, make sure you have the latest update of the Uber application which will allow you to summon an Uber ride 15 minutes to 30 days (Yes, really!) in advance. The booking process is quite straightforward – Select either an uberGO or uberX (in India) from the slider down below and you’ll see a new “ schedule a ride ” option, tap that. You’ll be redirected to the page where you can specify details including pickup date and location, time of arrival, destination, and payment method. Once done, a generated fare estima

Xiaomi Launches Snapdragon 821 Powered Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus in China

X iaomi has pulled the wraps from its latest flagship iteration the Xiaomi Mi 5s and the 5s Plus. The new device comes with improved hardware as opposed to its predecessor and also heralds with features like Force touch which work on the line of Apple’s 3D touch. The Xiaomi Mi 5s comes clad in the all-metal body and will be offered in dark grey, silver, gold and rose colors. As rumoured earlier Xiaomi Mi 5s and the 5s Plus herald with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner touted to be more accurate than the usual fingerprint sensor. Also. Xiaomi claims that the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor will not take much damage due to regular wear and tear since it is nonporous in nature. The Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner also means that there are no openings around the fingerprint sensor and thus it can be integrated seamlessly into the screen panel. In a nutshell, the fingerprint sensor doesn’t protrude in any manner and is completely enclosed within a glass layer. Xiaomi Mi 5s is fitted with a
