Apps must now pass review process before getting access to Facebook’s Marketing API

Facebook announced a new list of updates to its app development platform today, a regular occurrence since the company suspended Cambridge Analytica for using an app to exploit and harvest user data.Per today’s announcement, apps now must undergo a new review process before getting access to Facebook’s Marketing API, the tool that allows developers to build advertising functionality and automation into their apps. It is also modifying the Marketing API from a three-tier to two-tier structure to “simplify” it.The Lead Ads Retrieval and Live Video APIs will also have a review process before app developers are given permission to use the two APIs. (Facebook first announced in April that it was planning to make the Live API only available to approved partners.)Facebook is also shuttering a number of APIs. New Forrester report: ‘Speech analytics has found its voice with AI’

The research firm noted that it has issued two previous reports on the topic, although this is the first New Wave vendor evaluation. (The company’s New Wave reports evaluate emerging tech, compared to the traditional tech covered in its traditional Wave reports.)[Read the full article on MarTech Today.]The post New Forrester report: ‘Speech analytics has found its voice with AI’ appeared first on Marketing Land.

California lawmakers approve highly contested new data privacy rules, staving off a November ballot initaitve

California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill Thursday that will give residents of that state the highest level of data privacy protection in the nation. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives consumers an array of new rights, including the right to prevent businesses from selling or disclosing their personal information.A similar initiative was intended to be on the ballot in November. But with the heightened awareness around data management in the wake of events such as the Facebook/Cambridge Analytica debacle, legislators took the matter into their own hands. Facebook itself seemed to see the writing on the wall when it dropped opposition to the law in April. The law levies steep penalties for companies that do not comply.Proponents of the law say it gives consumers more control of their data, including the right to know how their data is being used, what categories of data are being collected and sold (e.g., name, IP address) and the right to stop companies from doing so.Oppone…
