Facebook bans bail bond ads & requires pre-certification for addiction treatment ads

Facebook will no longer allow promotions for bail bond services and is only allowing ads for addiction treatment centers from advertisers that have first been approved by LegitScript, a third-party certification platform. These latest updates to its advertising policies apply to Facebook’s platform, as well as Messenger, Instagram and Facebook’s Audience Network.“Addiction treatment centers that advertise to people in the US on Facebook will now be required to have certification from LegitScript, which will review their background, qualifications, compliance with state legal and regulatory licensing requirements and privacy practices,” Facebook writes on its Business blog.Once addiction treatment centers have been certified by LegitScript, they will still need to complete Facebook’s Addiction Treatment Centers Onboarding Request to run ads on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram or Facebook’s Audience Network. When determining whether or not to allow ads from bail bond services and addiction…

CDP AgilOne partners with Criteo to prevent wasting ads on an already-sold customer

Customer data platform (CDP) AgilOne announced this week a new partnership with remarketing platform Criteo.AgilOne said this is the first and only integration that Criteo has undertaken specifically for full-profile CDP use cases. If you visit the website of a retailer who subscribes to Criteo’s platform, look at a page for a Roadmaster bike and leave the site without buying, Criteo will then follow you on other websites with remarketing ads for that bike. But you may have quit the site to immediately go out to a local brick-and-mortar bike shop and buy a Roadmaster. That’s where AgilOne’s integration comes in, CEO and founder Omer Artun told me.[Read the full article on MarTech Today.]The post CDP AgilOne partners with Criteo to prevent wasting ads on an already-sold customer appeared first on Marketing Land.

Facebook’s content review policy: How it works, the teams & tech behind the reviews & the results so far

Last week, Facebook announced it had removed 32 Pages and accounts from its platform and Instagram for “coordinated inauthentic behavior” — a term used by Facebook to define efforts by a network of accounts aiming to spread malicious content. The bad actors behind the misinformation campaigns included eight Facebook Pages, 17 Facebook accounts and seven Instagram accounts.“This kind of behavior is not allowed on Facebook because we don’t want people or organizations creating networks of accounts to mislead others about who they are, or what they’re doing,” wrote Facebook in its July 31 announcement that the accounts had been taken down. One week later, Facebook took down four more Pages that belonged to conspiracy theorist and Infowars founder Alex Jones for repeatedly posting content that broke the company’s Community Standards Guidelines. (Spotify, Apple, YouTube and others have also restricted or removed Jones’ content on their platforms.)Facebook’s decisions to take down content, a…

Three ways to maximize the SEO impact of user-generated content

SEO and user-generated content have a complicated relationship. On the one hand, user-generated content can give search engines more information to work with, improve your rankings for long tail search traffic, and encourage community activity that generates links and other positive off-site signals. On the other hand, user-generated content can be low quality, redundant, spammy, it can dilute authority, and sometimes it can even earn you a manual action from Google. Here are three ways how to best to leverage your user-generated content for positive results.1. Consolidate your user-generated contentIt’s well known in the SEO industry that pages with more words tend to rank better, while it’s also typically acknowledged that this isn’t always the case, since a page with a higher word count isn’t always the most useful page for a user based on their query. The correlations are quite clear, however. Backlinko found that the average word count of a Google first page result was 1,890 words:…

How to maximize value from push notifications

In my last post, I talked about how to use email to get even more out of your most valuable users (your customers!). Email is certainly a tried-and-true digital channel, but it’s also limited, especially in the case of app retention and engagement. In the go-go-go mobile world of 2018, adding any extra steps (e.g., checking email) to a conversion funnel is a deal-breaker. If you have an app, and you’re trying to goose users into action, push notifications are the way to go — yet they’re used less than optimally by many marketers. In this column, we’ll break down the not-yet-mighty push notification: general best practices, opt-in best practices, two main ways to segment your customers, timing best practices and push notification types.Let’s get started.General best practices for push notificationsThese may seem obvious to some, but they’re certainly not universally in play.
