How to optimize your Instagram account for search engines

Instagram is a powerful visual platform for digital marketers to take advantage of. Naturally, anybody taking part in a multichannel marketing strategy understands that efforts to market your Instagram profile should extend beyond Instagram itself.Surprisingly, however, Instagram accounts are actually notoriously difficult to index and display in the search results. This is because most Instagram users are, in fact, not so interested in promoting themselves, and in fact Instagram actually blocks search engines from indexing your Instagram images. The profiles themselves can still be indexed, but the images are not. This represents a major hurdle for marketers hoping to get additional traffic to their Instagram account from the search results, but the hurdle is not insurmountable.Let’s talk about how to optimize your Instagram account for search engines.Make sure your profile is set to publicInstagram profiles are set to public by default, meaning that anybody can access your profile and…

Why did SAP buy Qualtrics?

On Sunday, SAP again redefined the capabilities of its marketing platform, announcing the acquisition of survey and research firm Qualtric for $8 billion.Qualtrics offers survey software for assessing customer and employee attitudes for about 9000 enterprise customers. Based in Provo, Utah and Seattle, the company said it would maintain those headquarters and its separate brand, even as it integrates into the SAP ecosystem.Projecting $400 million in revenue this year, Qualtrics had been preparing to go public, following a similar path by its main competitor, SurveyMonkey. Why this acquisition? But, given the enormous price tag, the key question is: Why did SAP make this purchase? The two companies are pitching the idea that Qualtrics offers X-data, or experience-related data, which, when married to SAP’s operational data, provides a complete view of experience management: According to Andrew Joiner, CEO of customer experience management firm InMoment, the price shows the “strong demand f…

A new customer experience, how AI is changing marketing

In the summer of 1956, 10 scientists and mathematicians gathered at New Hampshire’s Dartmouth College to brainstorm a new concept assistant professor John McCarthy called “artificial intelligence.” According to the original proposal for the research project, McCarthy — along with fellow organizers from Harvard, Bell Labs, and IBM — wanted to explore the idea of programming machines to use language and solve problems for humans while improving over time.It would be years before these lofty objectives were met, but the summer workshop is credited with launching the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Sixty years later, cognitive scientists, data analysts, UX designers, and countless others are doing everything those pioneering scientists hoped for — and more. With deep learning, companies can make extraordinary progress in industries ranging from cybersecurity to marketing. It’s just a matter of knowing where to start.Think of AI as a machine-powered version of mankind’s cognitive sk…

Your customers aren’t waiting till Black Friday, neither should you

You may already know this, but turns out your customers aren’t waiting till Black Friday to shop for the holidays. In the past few years, many consumers have been starting their shopping well ahead of the unofficial Black Friday kick off to the shopping season. The retail weekend bracketed by Black Friday and Cyber Monday (BFCM) has evolved into an entire month, creating opportunities for marketers that pace themselves throughout — and prior to — the holiday season.Shoppers have been getting an early start for years. According to an NPD Group survey (free, registration required) of 3,605 consumers in September, about one-fifth of consumers had started their holiday shopping in September or earlier; another quarter said they planned to start before Thanksgiving. The percentage of shoppers that starts their shopping before Thanksgiving has remained fairly consistent over the past decade, while there’s been an increase in BFCM shoppers and a drop in late shoppers. Just over a fourth (28 pe…

IAB: Digital ad revenues could exceed $100 billion for first time in 2018

Overall, U.S. digital ad revenues grew by 23.1 percent to $49.5 billion in the first half of 2018, adding more than $9 billion over first half of 2017. That put digital on track to exceed $100 billion in annual ad revenues for the first time, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau’s (IAB) Internet Advertising Revenue report for the first half of 2018, released Tuesday.“Typically, first half revenue trends lower than second half. That we’ve see 23 percent growth this year from January through June, while simultaneously witnessing the continued decline in ad spend on traditional media, indicates that the industry dollars — which were slow to follow actual consumer behavior — are now aligning appropriately,” said IAB’s Senior VP of research and measurement Sue Hogan in a release announcing the report findings.Social media growth inches up. At $13.1 billion in the first six months of 2018, social media ad revenues grew 38 percent from the first half of 2017. That’s up just slight…
